问：汉译英时该如何选词？答：应看上下文，仔细推敲词语的指称意义和蕴含意义，还应注意词语之间和各句子成分之间的搭配，译文必须按照英语的习惯搭配，而不是根据汉语单词找对应的英语，比如“这只表的价钱很贵”如何翻译？译文1：The price of the watch is dear. （误）译文2：The watch is dear. （正）译文3：The price of the watch is high. （正）第一种译文完全按照汉语的意思翻译成相应的英语，在英语中，物品watch 可以和dear搭配，而价钱price则只能与high 或low等词搭配，因此，第一种译法不正确。

又如，“这锅饭能吃10个人”翻译成：译文1：This pot of rice can eat 10 people. （误）译文2：A pot of rice like this can feed 10 people. （正）第一种翻译显然闹了笑话，汉语重悟性，而英语则重理性，汉语中说“这锅饭能吃10个人”是合乎逻辑的，而英语则不行，要改为feed people。

问：汉译英时如何选择主语？答：选择主语的确是汉译英的一个难点。

由于汉语讲“天人合一”，汉文化中主体意识非常强，体现在语言上是使用大量的无主句，而英语则不然。

由于思维方式的不同，有时候汉语的主语并不是英语句子的主语，在翻译时应按照英语的思维方式选择合适的主语，有时候需要增加主语。

如这句话如何翻译？原文：只见她一身珠光宝气，绰约宜人。

译文1：To see her shining in jewelries and graceful in manner.（误）译文2：She showed up in a graceful manner, gleaming with jewelry. （正）第一种译文缺乏主语，是不完整的句子；译文2根据原文情况，转换视角，选择以人为主语，谓语也巧妙地使用了原文的动词，使得原句紧凑完整。
