This has become our bedtime habit.I press “play.” A motherly voice fills the car. My mother and my aunt send us books on tape ob tained from secondhand shops or rescued from the back of a drawer. Maybe no one in England plays cassettes anymore, but I still love them.Sam rests on his seat. He’s sitting in the front seat. I am listening to the cassette. But I am also thinking. In a m onth’s time, my boy will be 10. Next year, he will be 11. And so it will go on, until he leaves me and his father and his sister to live out his own stories. Will he think back to the times when he sat in the dark in a car in Africa, listening to tales of Wales in World War II, the finest lady detective of Botswana, or a country he has visited, and tell me he finds them “very interesting”? Will he think, when he is grown-up, the poor mum always makes the ancient tape player which is out of date work?I like to believe that he will recall those wonderful moments. By then, perhaps, my child will realize a deep love of sharing and understanding by listening to the old tape play. I hope Sam will think that these evenings we spend in the car are a story themselves. It is his own first chapter. In time my boy will ease off the hand brake and roll out into the world. Actually, it’s been under fire fora long time. Research has shown that passwords are not a very good way to protect sensitive information.People would use some random characters, numbers and symbols. Furthermore, a unique password would be used for every site or application the user uses. Unfortunately, the longer and more complex passwords become, the more people are likely to forget them. Therefore, they use the same password for every service or application. These are all big no-noes and essentially defeat the purpose of a password.Google is trying to kill off passwords on Android devices by introducing the Trust API, which does what simple passwords cannot and gives developers a framework for securing their application using a number of security systems and metrics(衡量标准)on the device. A Trust Score will be generated based on the metrics the device gathers and will allow or refuse access to applications based on whether or not your Trust Score is high enough. The Trust Score will be generated based on a number of metrics including your device location, face scanning, fingerprints, and the things like your typing speed or the way you speak. Taken one at a time, these metrics are not secure. But taken together, thes e metrics will help recognize the real “you”.The good news is that Google has already been testing this on real world data.Google has proven the Trust API works. Next Google will run tests with some banks to see if the Trust API meets their needs before rolling out the system on Android phones later. It may take another year for apps and popular sites to start using the Trust API.This is a pretty exciting change. Passwords have been around for a long time. Although the security of systems has been improved, the usability of systems hasn’t been proved much. Google appears to have the best of them. Maybe that never-ending conflict between security and convenience will be able to take a break once the Trust system comes out.28.What is implied in the underlined sentence in Para 2? _________A.Users make mistakes in using passwords.B.Users should know the purpose of passwords.C.Users have learnt to say no to their passwords.D.Users misunderstand the meaning of passwords.29.How is the key part of the Trust API generated? _________A.By taking one metric at a time.B.By combining various metrics.C.By developing security systems.D.By analyzing complex passwords.30. What can we know about the Trust system from the text? _________A.It needs to be improved in future.B.It hasn’t been proven to be effectiveC.It will be used on Android devices first.D.It is secure and convenient for the users.31.What would be the best title for the text? _________A.How does Google develop the Trust API?B.Will the Tru st API meet the users’ needs?C.Will passwords soon be a thing of the past?D.How do passwords protect personal information?DThe Diary of Anne Frank was first published in the United States 60 years ago. The classic account has long been an international bestseller. Many know the story. Few realize how difficult it was for the story to be published, and how even more difficult it was to get the book adapted for the stage. Several collections across the Harry Ransom Center help to tell this story. After hi s liberation from Auschwitz in 1945, Anne’s father Otto Frank discovered he was the sole survivor of the family. He was given his daughter’s diaries by a family friend who had helped hide the Franks. Frank edited the diaries himself, and had them published in Dutch by Contact Publishing of Amsterdam in 1947.In the years after, Frank struggled to find an American publisher. After the manuscript was offered to several publishers, it eventually made its way to Alfred Knopf, Inc. in July of 1950. But the reviewer found the manuscript to be “childish” and “very dull reading”: “Despite the unusual circumstances of the two years it covers, this diary is a dreary record of typical family quarrel and adolescent emotions. It is not in any way a literary achievem ent.”Later, the American rights to the Diary of Anne Frank were picked up by Doubleday, but Doubleday delayed publication. The editors of Commentary magazine learned of the Diary and wrote to Doubleday requesting permission to publish excerpts of the manuscript. According to Commentary, Doubleday initially refused, stating that they had hoped to syndicate(联合出版) the story “in a magazine that pays top prices.” When they failed to find a magazine, Doubleday returned to Commentary. Thus, the first time The Diary appeared in print in the United States was in the May and June 1952 issues of Commentary. The response was enthusiastic, and Doubleday moved forward with publishing the full manuscript. After this overwhelming success, Otto Frank looked for several adapters for a stage adaptation. Among them was Lillian Hellman who declined the opportunity. “I think it is a great historical work which will probably live forever, but I couldn’t be more wrong as the adapter. If I did this it would run one night because it would be deeply depressing. You need someone with a lighter touch. ” Hellman finally recommended Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, who would go on to write the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. The play opened on Broadway on October 5, 1957, and ran for over 700 performances.32.Why was The Diary refused to be published by Alfred Knopf, Inc.? _________A.Because The Diary gives a description of two unusual years.B.Because Anne Frank was too young to be recognized.C.Because the publisher didn’t see much value in The Diary.D.Because Anne’s father found another publisher.33.Which word is closest in meaning to the underlined word “excerpts”? _________A.parts B.abstracts C.quotes D.themes 34.Which of the following is true according to the passage? _________A.Lillian Hellman wrote an adaptation of The Diary.B.Anne and her father were saved in the end.C.The Diary has been a very popular for a long time.D.The Diary experienced a cold shoulder when first put on Broadway.35.What is the main idea of the passage? _________A.What The Diary of Anne Frank was about.B.How The Diary of Anne Frank first made it to the US.C.Why The Diary of Anne Frank was popular in the US.D.When and why The Diary of Anne Frank was published.第二节:七选五(共5小题,每题3分,满分15分)Imagine being the only person in the Forbidden City. 36 . Help elders to tell stories.21. 答案:B 细节理解题根据原文Dates: 3 Sundays 可知答案B答案:C 推理判断题根据原文第三段第三行where the children have enriched their life each spring camp 可获知答案C答案:B 细节理解题根据原文倒数第二段to build awareness, self-confidence andgroup unity 可知答案BBSome scientists will say it is impossible to read minds. They will also tell you that you can make educated guesses on what a person might be thinking or feeling. Perhaps there really is nothing mysterious about the power to read minds. Perhaps it is simply human sense based on observation and educated guesses after all, but that's really a useful ability to learn.Learn body language. How a person moves and holds their hands, and even what their eyes are doing are actually telling about what is going on inside their head. For example, pupils (瞳孔) tend to grow larger when you are interested in or excited about something. If you are talking to someone and making eye contact, finding their pupils are large and round, chances are that they are not feigning interest in the conversation. Someone biting their nails is probably nervous. Someonewho folds their arms across their chest when they are not cold is probably trying to put a barrier between you and themselves.Learn to mentally put yourself in another' s place. Scientists have recently discovered that your brain has neurons (神经元) that become active when you watch someone do something the same as we did the action ourselves. So when you are able to open yourself to understanding how other people are feeling, you can figure out reasons and predict future actions, reactions, even thoughts.Sometimes you can use Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) (超感觉力) to read someone's mind. This does not mean youwill literally be able to read their mind like a book. Instead, you will receive impressions or feelings, which are difficult to explain. To improve your ESP abilities, take up meditation (冥想). Because meditation helps enable you to purposely put yourbrain in a state of relaxed awareness, where you will be more successful in reading people and receiving impressions.Practice and combine all of these steps. You will soon find yourself able to read people's minds. What is the passage mainly about? The ways of reading people's minds. The steps of learning body language. The necessity of learning to read people’s minds. The relationship between mind and body language. What does the underline word "feigning" mean?Expressing.B. Pretending. C. Finding. D. Declaring. Why can you read someone's mind when you mentally put yourself in his/her place? You suddenly have the ability to understand his or her feeling.Your imagination ability and your past experience are combined. Some neurons m your brain improve your observation ability.Your past similar experiences make some neurons in your brain active. How does meditation help with mind reading?By making educated guesses on minds.By learning to make eye contact.By changing ESP abilities for the better.By strengthening impressions received. Practice and combine all of these steps. You will soon find yourself able to read people’s minds.可知答案答案:B 词义猜测题根据原文第二段第三行tend to grow larger when you are interested in or excited about something 可知not feigning interest 表示感兴趣,即feigning 表示否定意义,故选B答案:D 细节理解题根据原文第三段第一行scientist have recently discovered that your brain has neurons that become active 可知答案D答案:C 细节理解题根据原文倒数第二段第一行to improve your ESP abilities, take up meditation 可知答案CC"Stop all the rushing and screaming: too much excitement is bad for families. Kids are missing out on an essential life - relaxed down time, " says Dr. Charlotte Reznick."Parents work, and kids do scheduled activities - there' s little family time without pressure," says Reznick. By the time the family meet up for dinner, everyone is exhausted."All the rushing makes for a short temper. "When parents are reduced to shouting at their children to get them to listen, they lower their own self-esteem as well as losing the respect of their children," says Dr. Carl Pickhardt "While parents think it shows they' re serious about what they're saying, they are really just showing helpless desperation at not getting their way. "These days what kids are learning at school and from the outside is a lot greater than it used to be even just a generation ago."The problem is that stress-relieving activities - reading, taking walks or hot baths, watching the sunset and other activities are not even part of most kids' experience any more, " says Reznick."There are so many more social-interaction opportunities in our computer age, but not all of them promotemeaningful connections, which is another potential outlet for stress, " she says. One way to relieve stress is a simple technique called "the balloon breath". It's agreat way for everyone to become calm so that they can respond thoughtfully rather than just react. Here's how to do it.
