正宗英语—用地道的英文翻译几个常用的汉语词汇(1)一些人们熟知的汉语词汇,要将其翻译成正宗、地道的English文字,是非常不容易的,由于语言、文化背景的不同,很容易掉入“中式英语”的陷阱,于是就有了Chinglish这个单词。
试将下面几个汉语词汇用正宗、地道的英文写出来:1 正宗英语2(人的)许多方面3 您为什么不喜欢这则广告?4 肝肠寸断5 打官司1 正宗英语,很容易被写成authentic English, 或genuine English, 歪果仁肯定看得懂,但却既不正宗,也不地道。
Authentic的意思是值得信赖、不可复制、可以验证,多用于官方文件。
而genuine的意思是真实的、准确的,所以这样翻译非常生硬。
其他容易想到使用的生硬单词还有accurate, actual, authoritative, bona fide, certain, dependable,dinkum, factual, faithful, lawful, legitimate, on the level, pukka,pure, real, reliable,true, true-to-life, trustworthy, truthful,undisputed,valid,veritable, 用于翻译都不大靠谱。
正宗的译法是:native English, 或original English。
这是因为汉语容易带感情色彩,而英语在叙述具体事物时,要求实实在在。
Native指出自讲英语的国家本土,original表示未经改动、原封原样、原汁原味的。
2(人的)许多方面,容易翻译成many sides, many aspects, 但凡是有生命的个体,是指一种行为方式,只是现代汉语习惯用“方面”来表达,就像“口水”不能说成“嘴水”一样。
正宗的译法是in many ways。
3 您为什么不喜欢这则广告?容易翻译成Why don’t you like this advertisement? 有没有人想到用What don’t you like this advertisement? 因为除非是十分痛恨这个广告,一般来说,对方想知道的是,这则广告里面的什么东西招您不喜欢。
