全英中华端午龙舟赛在英国举行

人民网曼彻斯特6月1日电（记者 黄培昭）粽叶飘香，龙舟竞渡。中华传统节日端午节来临之际，2014全英中华端午龙舟赛6月1日在曼彻斯特索尔福德市索尔福德港9号码头举行。中国驻曼彻斯特总领事潘云东先生和夫人朱宇颖领事、领事吴晓敏先生、曼彻斯特新华联谊会会长许言忠博士、英国达兴有限公司总裁李雪冰女士等嘉宾出席龙舟赛开幕式，并饶有兴致地观看了比赛。
潘云东总领事在开幕式致辞中说，中华文化源远流长、灿烂辉煌，端午龙舟赛，是中华文化的传统经典项目。曼城龙舟赛塔建了一个展示中华文化的良好平台，让领区广大侨胞和英国民众共享中华传统节日的喜庆与快乐，领略中华传统文化的独特魅力，意义重大。我衷心希望，领区侨学界齐心协力，第三届龙舟赛更加精彩纷呈，激情迸发大家同舟共济、精诚团结的精神，尽情展示领区侨学界和谐相融、积极进取的良好风貌，为更好地弘扬中华文化、推动侨社建设、促进中英关系、增进两国人民友谊贡献心力！祝第三届全英中华端午龙舟赛圆满成功！
索尔福德市市长伊安·司徒亚特在开幕式上强调指出，一年一度的全英中华端午龙舟赛越办越成功，这是与中国曼彻斯特侨团当地合作机构所付出的大量辛勤工作分不开的。本次龙舟赛也得到了中国驻曼彻斯特总领馆以及曼彻斯特地方市政厅的大量支持，索尔福德隆龙舟已经发展成为全国性的活动，活动内容非常丰富，富有浓厚的中国文化、历史特色，也显示出曼彻斯特和中国人民的强有力联系。我谨代表索尔福德市，再一次非常自豪地欢迎全英中华端午龙舟赛在我们城市举行。
吴晓敏领事介绍说，全英中华端午龙舟赛不但在英国是最大的龙舟比赛，也是欧洲最大的同类赛事。全英中华端午龙舟赛已经成功举办了两届，影响在不断扩大，通过龙舟赛，丰富了曼彻斯特华侨华人的文化生活，传播了灿烂多彩的中华文化，增进了中英两国人民之间的友谊，收到了很好的效果。

The Duanwu Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth
month of the Chinese lunar calendar. For thousands of years,
Duanwu has been marked by eating Zongzi and racing dragon
boats.
The taste of Zongzi, a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of
glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves to give
it a special flavor, varies greatly across China. Zongzi is
often made of rice mixed with dates in Northern China,
because dates are abundant in the area. Eastern China’s
Jiaxing County is famous for its pork-stuffed Zongzi. In the
southern province of Guangdong, people stuff Zongzi with pork,
ham, chestnuts and other ingredients, making them very rich
in flavor. In Sichuan province, Zongzi is usually served with
a sugar dressing. Most people still maintain the tradition of
eating Zongzi on the day of the Duanwu Festival. But the
