In the 1960s, medical researchers Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe developed a checklist of stressful events. They appreciated the tricky point that any major change can be stressful. Bad events like “serious illness of a family member” were high on the list, but so were some helpful life changing events like marriage. When you take the Holmes Rahe you must remember that the score does not show how you deal with stress -- it only shows how much you have to deal with. And we now know that the way you deal with these events dramatically affects your chances of staying healthy. By the early 1970s, hundreds of similar studies had followed Holmes and Rahe. And millions of Americans who work and live under stress worried over the reports. Somehow the research got boiled down to a memorable message. Women’s magazines ran titles like “Stress causes illness.”If you want to stay physically and mentally healthy, the articles said, avoid stressful events. But such simplistic advice is impossible to follow. Even if stressful events are dangerous, many -- like the death of loved one--are impossible to avoid. Moreover, any warning to avoid all stressful events is a prescription for staying away from chances as well as trouble. Since any change can be stressful, a person who wanted to be completely free of stress would never marry, have a child, take a new job or move. The idea that all stress makes you sick also takes no notice of a lot of what we know about people. It supposes we're all vulnerable and not active in the face of the difficult situation. But what about human ability and creativity? Many come through periods of stress with more physical and mental strength than they had before. We also know that a long time without change or challenge can lead to boredom and physical and mental pressure.51. The result of Holmes-Rahe's medical research tells us ____ .A the way you handle major events may cause stressB what should be done to avoid stressC what kind of event would cause stressD how to cope with sudden changes in life52.The score of the Holmes Rahe test shows ____ .A. how you can deal with life changing eventsB. how helpful events can change your lifeC. how stressful a major event can beD. how much pressure you are under53. The studies on stress in the early 1970s led to ____ .A. popular avoidance of stressful jobsB. great fear over the mental disorderC. a careful research into stress related illnessesD. widespread worry about its harmful effects54. Why is “such simplistic advice ”(Line 2, Para.3) impossible to follow?A. No one can stay on the same job for long.B. More effective ways have been found to get rid of stressful events.C. People have to get married some day.D. You could be missing chances as well.55. According to the passage people who have experienced ups and downs may become ____.A. nervous when faced with difficultiesB. physically and mentally tiredC. more able to deal with difficultiesD. cold toward what happens to them参考答案:略。

比如37题,选择合适的小标题,许多考生根据第二自然段中出现的short-term or long-term goals 选择了错误的选项set long-term goals, 而忽视了最后一句:in other words, keep focusing on the future。
3.完形填空本次考试中的完形填空也是和以往一样的记叙文题材,文章内容贴近生活,描述的是作者为父母亲准备圣诞礼物的一次经历。

While waiting for a bus to the office where he was supposed to be interviewed, he saw an elderly man wildly kicking the tyre of his car. Obviously there was something wrong with the car. Jimmy immediately went up to lend him a hand. When Jimmy finished working on the car, the old man asked him how much he should pay for the service. Jimmy said there was no need to pay him; he just helped someone in need, and he had to rush for an interview. Then the old man said, “Well, I could take you to the office for your interview. It’s the least I could do. Please. I insist.” Jimmy agreed.Upon arrival, Jimmy found a long line of applications waiting to be interviewed. Jimmy still had some grease on him after the car repair, but he did not have much time to wash it off or have a change of shirt. One by one, the applicants left the interviewer’s office with disappointed look on their faces. Finally his name was called. The interviewer was sitting on a large chair facing the office window. Rocking the chair back and forth, he asked, “Do you really need to be interviewed?” Jimmy’s heart sank. “With the way I look now, how could I possibly pass this interview?” he thought to himself. Then the interviewer turned the chair and to Jimmy’s surprise, it was the old man he helped earlier in the morning. It turned out he was the General Manager of the company.“Sorry I had to keep you waiting, but I was pretty sure I made the right decision to have you as part of our workforce before you even stepped into the office. At least it was back in 1992 when Itraveled the country. Back then everyone seemed to be riding a bicycle.Millions of them, all black. Cars were rare. Yet since my arrival in Beijing last year, I’ve found the opposite is true. There are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many, it’s the easiest and cheapest way to travel today. Bicycles also come in different colors---sivler, green, red, blue, yellow, whatever you want. It’s fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks(人行道). Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars just can’t provide.Eager to be part of this aspect of Chinese culture, I decided to buy a bicycle. Great weather accompanied my great buy. I immediately jumped up on my bicycle seat and started home.My first ride home was orderly (守秩序的). To be safe, I stayed with a “pack” of bikers while cars on the streets came running swiftly out of nowhere at times. I didn’t want to get hit. So I took the ride carefully.Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was a lot like crossing a major highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide, so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck.I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful. I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people. Biking made me feel alive.4. AHow do you address(称呼) people in English when you want to talk to them? The following may be some simple rules the beginners should follow.1. When talking to strangers there is often no special form of address in English. Usually, if you want to catch the attention of a stranger it is necessary to use such phrases as “Excuse me”2. In British English “Sir” and “Madam” are considered to be too formal for most situations. They are used mostly to customers in shops or restaurants. While in American English “Sir” and “Madam” are not so formal and are commonly used between strangers, especially with old people whose names you don’t know.3. When you talk to some people you know, you can use their names. If you are friends, use their first names; if your relationship is more formal, use “Mr., “Mrs.”, “Ms”, etc, before their family nam es.4. There are many other forms of address which can be used between friends and strangers. However, many of these are limited in use. For example, “pal” and “mate” can be used between strangers, but are usually only used by men talking to other men.21.According to the passage, “Excuse me” is mainly used to _____.A.address a person you don’t knowB.apologize to othersC.catch the attention of a strangerD.suggest good manners22.If John Smith is your best friend, according to the passage you should often call him _____.A.JohnB.SmithC.Mr. JohnD.Mr. Smith23.Which of the following is NOT true?A.“Sir” and “Madam” are used more often in America than in England.B.People often use “Mr.”, “Mrs.” or “Ms.” before the first names of those people who they don’t know very well.C.“Pal” and “mate” are usually only used among men.D.While addressing friends, people just use their first names24.The passage is mostly likely taken from an English _____.A.textbookB.cardC.storybookD.grammar bookBOn a hot summer day, a friend and I decided to go to the forest for a walk. So we went to the forest by car. We walked around for a while ( —会儿) 。
Then we realized that we should probably pay attention to where we’re going, so we wouldn't get lost. We noticed a marked path and it looked like the path which we took from the parking lot(停车场).We started following it. After two hours, we realized we were just looping around. The part of the path that was supposed to take us back to the car seemed nowhere to be found! So we left the marked path,in the hope of finding our way back. We found a cycling path and followed it to a parking lot. Sadly it wasn’t our parking lot! A map at that parking lot showed us where all the other parking lots were and we noticed we were a long way from all of them! Except that,we couldn’t know which one was “our”parking lot.We decided not to walk towards any of them. Instead we walked up to a house nearby.A lady was unloading(卸载)her food from her car,and we asked if she could help us. We described to her where we had come from and what the roads looked like. She immediately knew the place we described and said that we were a long way off. And then,to my surprise, she said“Why don’t you jump into the car? I’ll take you there. ” I couldn’t believe it and shouted:“Really?!”I was so excited. She drove us right back to our car,and we were so grateful.25.Why did the author and his friend walk along the marked path?A.Because there were no other paths there.B.Because they thought it could lead to their parking lot.C.Because it was the shortest path in the forest.D.Because they could go to the deepest part of the forest.26.Theunderlined words "looping around" in Paragraph1 mean .A.moving in a way that makes a circleB.looking for the path aroundC.walking around by following a pathD.staying in the same place。
