文学与艺术类1、Many of us listen to music while we work, thinking that it will help us to concentrate on the task at hand. And in fact, recent research has found that music can have beneficial effects on creativity. When it comes to other areas of performance, however, the impact of background music is more complicated. The idea that listening to music when working is beneficial to output probably has its roots in the so-called “Mozart effect”. Put simply, this is the finding that spatial rotation performance(空间旋转能力) is increased immediately after listening to the music of Mozart, compared to no sound at all.How sound affects performance has been the topic of research for over 40 years, and is observed through a phenomenon called the irrelevant sound effect. To study irrelevant sound effect, participants in the research are asked to complete a simple task which requires them to recall a series of numbers or letters in the exact order in which they saw them. The tricky thing is being able to do this while ignoring any background noise. Two key characteristics of the irrelevant sound effect are required for its observation. First, the task must require the person to use their rehearsal abilities(复述能力), and second, the sound must contain acoustical variation(声学变化). Where the sound does not vary much acoustically, the performance of the task is much closer to that observed in quiet conditions. The irrelevant sound effect itself comes from attempting to process two sources of ordered information at the same time—one from the task and one from the sound. Unfortunately, only the former is required to successfully perform the recall task, and the effort in ensuring that irrelevant order information from the sound is not processed actually hinders(阻碍) this ability.A similar conflict is also seen when reading while in the presence of lyrical music. In this situation, the two sources of words—from the task and the sound—are in conflict. The cost is poorer performance of the task in the presence of music with lyrics. What this all means is that whether having music playing in the background helpsor hinders performance depends on the task and on the type of music, and only understanding this relationship will help people maximize their productivity levels.1. “Mozart effect” is mentioned to ________.A. explain how music can relax peopleB. show music can improve performanceC. advise people to listen to Mozart musicD. stress Mozart music gains wide attention2. It can be inferred that participants in the research ________.A. have improved their rehearsal abilityB. perform better in the quiet conditionsC. ignore the background noise successfullyD. prefer the music with great sound variation3. Students would be much smarter if they had some musical experience. They could improve their classroom skills, like paying attention and following directions. People develop all these skills when they learn music. Making music also lets children use their imagination. It provides students with a chance to try out their own ideas.Music not only makes children better students, but also gives them something positive to do. In a music program, children can be part of a band instead of joining a gang (团伙). Parents can enjoy listening to their children's music instead of seeing them glued to a computer or TV screen. In a school band, students get to be part of a team. They can get along well with old friends and make new friends through music.Music builds self-confidence, too. It gives children a sense of achievement and success. Making music is something for them to be proud of, and it lets kids practice performing in front of an audience. Music gives children an opportunity for self-expression, and that helps develop their self-confidence.In a word, music is important because it can make children better students, give them something positive to do, and build their character. That is why music should be offered in every single grade in every school.1.According to the passage, music could make students smarterby .A.improving their classroom skills and paying attentionB.improving their classroom skills and imaginationC.improving their attention, direction and imaginationD.learning music, making music and trying out their own ideas2.What does the underlined phrase “glued to” in the second paragraph mean?A.Unwilling to turn on.B.Always looking.C.Unwilling to leave.D.Always playing.3.The third paragraph mainly tells us that musiccould .A.give children self-expression and self-confidenceB.bring to children achievement and successC.give children something to be proud ofD.develop children’s self-confidence4.What’s the best title for this passage?A.Music is a must as a course at schoolB.Music builds children’s self-confidenceC.Music makes students much smarterD.Learning music and making music3、Auld Lang Syne is a song that everyone drunkenly sings, which marks the start to a brand new year. No one ever seems to know the words (something about forgetting old acquaintances?) or what they mean (why would we want to forget people?), but, in America,it's as much a part of New Years' tradition as wine. But why?The lyrics(歌词) to the song come from a poem written by the great Scottish poet Robert Bums in 1788. Its title is believed to be an old Scottish way of saying “a long time ago. ’’ Phrases like “In the days of auld lang syne” also appear in other Scottish fairy tales and poems, usually as a way of saying “Once Upon a Time. ”While it still causes confusion, it is believed that the opening lines of the song are meant to be rhetorical(夸张的);“Should auld acquaintance b e forgotten, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgotten, and auld lang syne?” therefore means we should have a drink in honor of whatever is passing, and remember old friends. When the Scots immigrated to America in the 19th century, they brought the song with them. But its great popularity can be largely due to the Canadian bandleader Guy Lombardo. In 1965, he explained how he himself came to associate the song with the end of the year to Life magazine:“Auld Lang Syne is o ur theme song—and was long before anyone ever heard us on the radio. In our particular part of western Ontario, where there’s a large Scottish population, it was traditional for bands to end every dance with Auld Lang Syne. We didn't think it was known here.If you want to see the singer in action, check out his final performance on the eve of 1977, after performing for 48 years in a row.1.How might people feel when first hearing the song Auld Lang Syne?A.Confused.B.Moved.C.Energetic.fortable.2.Why do people sing Auld Lang Syne when New Year is coming?A.To hope for good luck.B.To celebrate the New Year.C.In honor of Robert Bums.D.In memory of the past.3.Why is Guy Lombardo mentioned in the text?A.He created the song Auld Lang Syne.B.He made the song Auld Lang Syne more popular.C.He brought the song Auld Lang Syne to America.D.He was the first to sing the song Auld Lang Syne.4.What might be the best title for the text?A.What does Auld Lang Syne Mean?B.Who Makes Auld Lang Syne Popular?C.How does Auld Lang Syne Come into Being?D.Why do People Sing Auld Lang Syne on New Year Eve?4、In the 19th century the novel came into its own. Pride and Prejudice opens with what must he the most fam ous sentence in the English novel: “It is a truth universally acknowledged(认可), that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."The truth,of course, is the opposite: wealthy, unmarried young men are extremely attractive to young women. And women—especially penniless(身无分文) or near-penniless ones—are the subjects of Austen’s tales.Women nowadays may be more equal to men than they were in Jane Austen's day. 2020高考一轮复习教材串讲必修1 Unit 1 Friendship练习Ⅰ.阅读理解In 1812,the year Charles Dickens was born, there were 66 novels published in Britain.People had been writing novels for a century—most experts date the first novel to Robinson Crusoe in 1719—but nobody wanted to do it professionally. The steam-powered printing press was still in its early stages;the literacy(识字) rate in England was under 50%.Many works of fiction appeared without the names of the authors, often with something like “By a lady.”Novels, for the most part, were looked upon as silly, immoral or just plain bad.In 1870,when Dickens died, the world mourned him as its first professional writer and publisher, famous and beloved, who had led an explosion in both the publication of novels and their readership and whose characters—from Oliver Twist to Tiny Tim—were held up as moral touchstones.Today Dickens’ greatness is unchallenged.Removing him from the pantheon(名人堂) of English literature would make about as much sense as the Louvre selling off the Mona Lisa. How did Dickens get to the top?For all the feelings readers attach to stories, literature is a numbers game, and the test of time is extremely difficult to pass. Some 60,000 novels were published during the Victorian age, from 1837 to 1901;today a casual reader might be able to name a half-dozen of them. It’s partly true that Dickens’ style of writing attracted audiences from all walks of life. It’s partly that his writings rode a wave of social, political and scientific progress. But it’s also that he rewrote the culture of literature and put himself at the center. No one will ever know what mix of talent, ambition, energy and luck made Dickens such a distinguished writer. But as the 200th anniversary of his birth approaches,it is possible—and important for our own culture—to understand how he made himself a lasting one.1.Which of the following best describes British novels in the 18th century?A.They were difficult to understand.B.They were popular among the rich.C.They were seen as nearly worthless.D.They were written mostly by women.2.Dickens is compared with the Mona Lisa in the text to stress .A.his reputation in FranceB.his interest in modern artC.his success in publicationD.his importance in literature3.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To remember a great writer.B.To introduce an English novel.C.To encourage studies on culture.D.To promote values of the Victorian age.Ⅱ.完形填空(2019·江苏省溧水二模)请认真阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

I knew a man, a very tall, gentle man, for several years before I found out that he visited prisoners in our local prison, week in and week out for decades. He would write letters for them, carry messages, fetch clothing or books. But mainly he just offered himself. He did not lecture to them, didn’t pick and choose between those he liked and disliked and didn’t look for any return on his kindness. All that mattered was that they were in trouble. Why did he spend time with prisoners when he could have been playing golf or watching TV? “I go in case everyone else has given up on them,” he told me once. “I’ll never give up.”Never giving up is a quality we honor in athletes, in soldiers, in survivors of disasters, in patients recovering from severe injuries. But the boy diedsuddenly that night.Knowing the death could have been avoided if he had only realizedthe seriousness of the situation, he always felt he was guilty. To makematters worse, his wife left him a short time later, leaving him alonewith his sixyearold younger son. The hurt and pain of the two situations were more than Al could stand, and he turned to alcohol for help. In time, Al became an alcoholic. As the alcoholism progressed, Al began to lose everything he possessed — his land, house, etc. Finally Al died alone in a small bar. Hearing of Al's death, I thought, “What a totally wasted life! What a complete failure!”As time went by, I began to revalue my earlier rough judgment. I knew Al's now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring, and most loving men I have ever known. I saw the love between Ernie and his children, thinking that kindness and love had to come from somewhere.I hadn't heard Ernie talk much about his father. One day, I worked up my courage to ask him what on earth his father had done so that he became such a special person. Ernie said quietly, “As a child until I left home at 18, Al came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, ‘Love you, son.’”Tears came to my eyes as I realized what a fool I had been to judge Al as a failure. He had not left any material possessions behind. But he had been a kind and loving father, and left behind his best love.语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
Recognized as the largest desert in the world, the Sahara runs across North Africa, Covering over 3 million square miles from the Atlantic Coast to the Nile River Valley. Except for an occasional oasis(绿洲), this vast land is mainly made up of sand, stones, and worn out mountains. The burning sun causes daytime temperatures to rise to 70 degrees in the shade, and days without rain commonly last for years.Paintings found on the walls of caves in the Sahara Desert suggest that a few thousand years ago, large quantities of plants grew there and covered the desert floor. Many curious and unusual insects, birds and animals got enough food that allowed them to grow and reproduce. At that time, huge river systems and many oases supported growing communities(社团,社区) where a large number of people lived.Research scientists believe that the land became a desert for several reasons. For centuries people there have wandered from place to place in search of food, water and grazing(吃草)land for their animals. These people have always considered the number of animals they have as a sign of wealth. It is considered more important to have 100 sick and starving animals than 15 healthy ones. The large herds (群)have been allowed to go freely and graze on desert plants and grass. Over time, large sections of land have been left uncovered. In addition to allowing overgrazing, these people cut down whatever trees they could find and used them for firewood. The sand was unable to hold on to the great heat of the day, so nightting temperatures often drop below freezing and nothing was left to hold the soil together.Scientists have been studying different ways to bring back the green desert. Through research and experiments, they hope to be able to produce plants that will once again support the life there. Huge holes filled with much water lie under the desert surface. Scientists believe this rainwater simply flew down through the sand over hundreds of years and collected in the big, rocky holding tanks. By making use of the sun’s power, scientists in the Sahara have made experiments in which they got huge amount of electricity. This electricity was then used to operate drilling machines and pumps to pull the rainwater from the underground tanks. By drilling the hole one mile deep into the floor ofthe desert, one machine was able to recover more than 80 gallons of ice—cold water each second, or 288,000 gallons per hour.Scientists have had some success turning this wasteland into useful farmland. Today the desert is dotted with huge wheat fields watered by a system of pipes that carry water from the underground tanks. Farmers have also learnt that plants grow better if seeds are planted next to stones. Studies show that stones provide protection from the sun, allowing seeds to grow in a shady and cool environment. In addition to that, greenhouses have been built to protect plants from the sunshine so that less water is needed. Another idea is to grow plants that can live on a diet of salt water, since the ocean is so near to the desert.1. What will probably happen if the local people continue their customs and traditions?A. The desert will continue to be enlarged.B. Tourists will begin traveling to North Africa.C. More oases will begin to appear across the desert.D. The number of healthy animals will become larger.2. Which of the flowing statements is a fact presented in the passage?A. The desert is rich in beautiful color and scenery.B. Camels can go for days without drinking any water.C. The Sahara will one day become a beautiful garden.D. Large river systems once supported many communities.3. The author of the passage provides evidences (证据)that scientists are .A. pleased by the progress but do not have the money to continueB. discouraged by the poor results of their experimentsC. hopeful about the chances of life coming back to the desertD. troubled by the lack of water found underground4. Which of the following is the best summary of this passage?A. Drilling machines help to water the desert floor and make plants and animals alive. B.Scientists have been able to turn this large wasteland into a successful farming community.C. So much soil has become sand that the desert will never be able to support life as it once did.D. The desert no longer supports plenty of life, but researchers hope to change it with new scientific techniques.1、答案解析:答案为A。

If you struggle bravely against strong opponents(对手), you are likely to end up on the evening news. But in less flashy, less newsworthy forms, devotion to a task, or a person, or an occupation shows up in countless lives all around us.It shows up in parents who will not quit loving their daughter even after she dyes her hair purple, tattoos (纹身)her belly and runs off with a rock band. It shows ill couples who choose to mend their marriages instead of ending it. It shows up in volunteers at the hospital or library, it shows up in unsung people everywhere who do their job well, not because the boss is watching or because they are paid large amounts of money but because they know their work matters.1. Why did the man visit the prisoners every week _______.A. That’s his jobs.B. He wanted to teach them a lesson.C. He was a postman.D. He wanted to show care and offer help.2. From the third paragraph, we can infer that when never giving up is mentioned, people are likelyto relate it to ________.A. unknown peopleB. people facing challengesC. the divorced couplesD. the hospital volunteers3. What quality does the author value most according to the text?A. The courage to fight against strong opponents.B. The kindness of your friends and family members.C. Unit 1 Festivals around the world阅读理解组块专练——练速度(限时:30分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·杭州模拟)Experts believe that the best time to teach kids language skills is when they are babies. Most time the task is easily acplished with parents reading or talking to their babies. However, in some cases that is not possible due to busy work schedules or when kids are born deaf. Now, an adorable blueeyed robot, a human avatar, and some hightech neuroscience may be able to assist parents with this important developmental task. The Robo t AVatar thermalEnhanced system, or RAVE, is the brainchild of a team of researchers led by LauraAnn Petitto, an educational neuroscientist, at Washington, D.C.'s Gallaudet University. The learning process begins when the robot's camera, which is focused on the baby's face, detects tiny changes in his/her body temperature. This, bined with the baby's facial expression, causes the robot to turn its head and guide the baby's attention to a puter screen, on which a human avatar starts to municate with the baby, much like a parent would. For example, if the baby points towards the screen, the avatar might respond, “Are you pointing to me?” and follow that up with a nursery rhyme, fairy tale, or some essential social munication, all in American Sign Language (ASL).The “conversation” continues until the kid loses interest. The researchers, who have been testing the system for three years, found that babies as young as 6 to 8 months old began to move their hands in a rhythm similar to ASL after interacting with RAVE for just a few minutes.Petitto says natural language, whether municated through speech or sign, activates the same parts of the brain and believes the rhythmic motions prove the babies are learning the essential elements of munication. What sets this technique apart from other methods, such as showing educational videos or television shows, is its interactive nature and realtime response to the baby's actions. The researchers say that while it is too early to determine the system's longterm influence on b aby munication, the initial response has been very encouraging.Next, they plan to introduce an avatar that can both sign and speak tobabies.A.Improve babies' health condition.B.Take good care of babies.C.Develop babies' language skills.D.Keep babies pany.解析:选C 细节理解题。
Unit 1 Friendship第一节阅读理解ANine months ago, I was packing my daughter's backpack with new school supplies, wondering how I was going to send her off to kindergarten. I stood on the playground, tears pouring down my face because I wasn't ready for this first day of kindergarten — but she was ready. Today I will be standing on the playground, once again with tears, because this precious time went by too quickly. This week I realized that I never told you “thank you”. I don't know how to express a mother's thanks in the way a teacher deserves. We first met you at the open house the week before school started and I immediately knew you would be the type of teacher we would appreciate forever. While the students lined up for the day, you touched each one on the shoulder as you greeted them. If a student was having a tough morning, you quietly held his hand and walked him into the school.I got to know you as I volunteered in the lunch room. You made sure your students were all ready for lunch before you went on your own lunch break. You kept track of their big things and small things, because as a veteran kindergarten teacher, you know that the small things are the big things. I loved the way you made each student feel special. You helped them fall in love with school, which is so important at the start. To all of the teachers in the world who are like you, I wish you knew how grateful parents are for you. We adore you, respect you, and appreciate you. We don't tell you enough — we probably don't tell you ever. I wish we could take you with us to the next 12 grades.体裁:记叙文题材:家校关系主题:感激师恩【语篇解读】本文主要描述了一位幼儿妈妈表达对幼儿园老师的感激。
