1995年以色列VocalTec公司所推出的Internet Phone,不但是VoIP网络电话的开端,也揭开了电信IP化的序幕。
人们从此不但可以享受到更便宜、甚至完全免费的通话及多媒体增值服务,电信业的服务内容及面貌也为之剧变。
一开始的网络电话是以软件的形式呈现,同时仅限于PC to PC间的通话,换句话说,人们只要分别在两端不同的PC上,安装网络电话软件,即可经由IP网络进行对话。
随着宽频普及与相关网络技术的演进,网络电话也由单纯PC to PC的通话形式,发展出IP to PSTN(公共开关电话网络)、PSTN to IP、PSTN to PSTN及IP to IP等各种形式,当然他们的共通点,就是以IP网络为传输媒介,如此一来,电信业长久以PSTN电路交换网网络为传输媒介的惯例及独占性也逐渐被打破。
VoIP的原理、架构及要求由Voice over IP的字面意义,可以直译为透过IP网络传输的语音讯号或影像讯号,所以VoIP就是一种可以在IP网络上互传模拟音讯或视讯的一种技术。
简单地说,它是藉由一连串的转码、编码、压缩、打包等程序,好让该语音数据可以在IP网络上传输到目的端,然后再经由相反的程序,还原成原来的语音讯号以供接听者接收。
进一步来说,VoIP大致透过5道程序来互传语音讯号,首先是将发话端的模拟语音讯号进行编码的动作,目前主要是采用ITU-T G.711语音编码标准来转换。
第二道程序则是将语音封包加以压缩,同时并添加址及控制信息,如此便可以在第三阶段中,也就是传输IP 封包阶段,在浩瀚的IP网络中寻找到传送的目的端。
到了目的端,IP封包会进行译码还原的作业,最后并转换成喇叭、听筒或耳机能播放的模拟音讯。
在一个基本的VoIP架构之中,大致包含4个基本元素:(1)媒体网关器(Media Gateway):主要扮演将语音讯号转换成为IP封包的角色。

组成部分一个典型的IP电话解决方案包括以下几个组成部分:IP电话终端IP电话终端是实现IP电话功能的硬件设备,一般包括麦克风、扬声器、呼叫按钮、显示屏等。
它可以连接到企业的局域网中,通过互联网与其他设备进行通信。
IP电话终端一般支持各种通信协议,如SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)、H.323等。
IP电话服务器IP电话服务器是整个IP电话解决方案的核心部分,它负责电话呼叫的管理、信号转换、用户认证等功能。
IP电话服务器通常运行在企业的服务器上,可以支持多个IP电话注册和呼叫转接。

网络电话又称为IP Phone、Internet Telephone、宽带电话或VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol)。

IP Phone最早的产品源于1995年,当时开发商们推出了一些基于计算机平台的软件产品。
如Vocaltec的IP Phone、Netspeak公司的Web Phone及后来的Cooltalk等。
IP Phone可以在Internet上实现实时的语音传输服务,和传统电话业务相比,它具有更大的优势和更广阔的市场前景。
现在,IP Phone不仅可以提供PC-to-PC的实时语音通话,而且可以提供PC-to-Phone、Phone-to-Phone的实时语音通信。
IP电话系统是由一系列组件构成,其中包括终端、网关、关守、网管服务器、计费服务器等。
Internet网关提供Internet和电话网之间的接口,用户通过PSTN本地环路连接到Internet的网关,网关负责语音信号的数字化处理、压缩编码打包的工作,使其成为可以再Internet上传输的分组语音信号,然后通过网络传输到被叫用户的网关端,由被叫端得网关进行分组数据的解包、解压和解码的工作,以将数字信号还原成为可被识别的模拟语音信号,然后在通过PSTN传送到被叫方的终端,让对方接收到信息。
这样就完成了一个完整的电话到电话的IP电话的通信过程,如图9-8所示。

一、IP电话的概念IP电话是一种利用Internet技术或网络进行语音通信的新业务。
从网络组织来看,目前比较流行的方式有两种:一种是利用Internet网络进行的语音通信,我们称之为网络电话;另一种是利用IP技术,电信运行商之间通过专线点对点联结进行的语音通信,有人称之为经济电话或廉价电话。
两者比较,前者具有投资省,价格低等优势,但存在着无服务等级和全程通话质量不能保证等重要缺陷。
该方式多为计算机公司和数据网络服务公司所采纳。
后者相对于前者来讲投资较大,价格较高,但因其是专门用于电话通信的,所以有一定的服务等级,全程通话质量也有一定保证。
该方式多为电信运行商所采纳。
IP电话与传统电话具有明显区别。
首先,传统电话使用公众电话网作为语音传输的媒介;而IP电话则是将语音信号在公众电话网和Internet之间进行转换,对语音信号进行压缩封装,转换成IP包,同时,IP技术允许多个用户共用同一带宽资源,改变了传统电话由单个用户独占一个信道的方式,节省了用户使用单独信道的费用。

The phone features a best-of-class large, higher-resolution grayscale pixel-based LCD for easy access to communication information, timesaving applications, and feature usage (Figure 2). Features will keep pace with new changes through software updates to the phone flash memory. Firmware changes can be downloaded from Cisco Unified CallManager and . No hands-on moves and changes are required with the phone—the user can simply pick up the phone and move to the new location anywhere on your network. The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G-GE provides many accessibility methods according to user preference. For example, the Directory buttoncan show local and server-based directory information.Display The phone has a large, higher-resolution, graphical 4-bit grayscale display (320 x 222).Speakerphone, Mute, and Headset ButtonsThe phone offers high-quality speakerphone technology, including an easy-to-use speaker On/Off button,Microphone Mute button, and Headset button. These buttons are lit when active. For added security, theaudible dual tone multi frequency (DTMF) tones are masked when the speakerphone mode is used.Feature DescriptionEthernet Switch The internal 2-port Cisco Ethernet switch allows for a direct connection to a 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernetnetwork through an RJ-45 interface with single LAN connectivity for both the phone and a co-located PC.The system administrator can designate separate VLANs (802.1Q) for the PC and Cisco Unified IPphones, providing improved security and reliability of voice and data traffic.Headset Port A dedicated headset port eliminates the need for a separate amplifier when using a headset. This featureallows the handset to remain in its cradle, making headset use simpler.Volume Control The convenient Volume Control button on the phone provides for easy decibel-level adjustments for thespeakerphone, handset, headset, and ringer. The handset is hearing aid-compatible (HAC). Additionalvolume control gain can be achieved using an inline handset amplifier such as Walker Equipment W-10and CE-100 amplifiers.Adjustable Foot-Stand The phone foot-stand is adjustable from flat to 60 degrees to provide optimum display viewing andcomfortable use of all buttons and keys.
