英语作文——性别歧视

If we were living in 1990s, no one would believe that Harvey Weinstein, one of the leaders of Hollywood, could be thrown out of his movie empire. However, when Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey(female reporters from New York Times) lit the fuses, the whole American media circle was shocked. There were so many women coming out to accuse him and another lady-killer Bill Cosby.
It is glad that those women were brave enough to uncover Harvey’s hideous behaviors; meanwhile, they are regarded as glorious warriors fighting against casting couches and sexism, instead of sluts or bitches.
With the development of society and ideology, those spiritual shackles have been broke out one by one, but lots of dross from traditional culture also remains in people’s viewpoints. For example, when a rape commit is exposed, some ignorant opinions such as “she was raped because of she showed up in a revealing dress” even became the major thoughts on the Internet. It suggests that although the creed of gender equality is so familiar, women are still not given the respect they diverse.
More importantly, a new kind of sexism is hiding under the booming feminism. Why Harvey could harass many actresses? As we all know, his enormous business empire gave him enough power and recourse to satisfy any girl’s star dreamer. However, according to a young actress Lucia Evans, most of the victims thought that they were wrong, so they
abandoned defense when encountering Harvey’s sexual harassment. Even then, some women treated it as a “easy path”towards success, therefore, they are willing to please those men who master power, bartering sex charm for a chance. Days ago, two Dutch girls announced selling their “first time” for tuition. Of course, some people would ask: Why can’t she dominate her body freely?
In my opinion, exact gender equality is not that women have identical even better ability and position as men, but women shouldn’t be just a gender symbol which could be easily divided into several parts: sex, beauty, emotional and so on. In an ideal equal world, both men and women could send out their own distinct gender charm, however, when facing competition, they should be judged impartially and objectively. Women shouldn’t depend on their own sex charm, or they will gradually lose their competitive power. After all, these activities are also attaching women to men, transforming women into appendant of men.
Therefore, no matter man or women shouldn’t objectify female image, but regard every person as a unique individual. Although due to the oppression to female caused by our long history and traditional, modest “overcorrection”, which is characterized as raising female’s position, is necessary; women also ought to unite as one, in order to destroy androcentrism and sexism instead of reap profits from these unfair casting couches.。
