Step I Warming up and lead-in
1.Greet the students and talk about weekend activities with them.
T: Hello!Everyone. Today we’ll learn to talk about recent past events. Now first please tell me what you often do on weekends.
S1: I often play basketball on weekends.
S2: I often watch TV.
T: (Point to the word “weekend”) What does this word mean?What did you do last weekend?
S: Saturday and Sunday are the weekend.
S1: I played basketball last weekend.
S2: I cleaned my room last weekend.
2.Watch a video about Penelope’s school trip.Then answer the two questions and talk about what else can you learn from his school trip.
Step II Talking about the picture (1a)
1.Look at the pictures and guess what Carol did on her school trip. (speak out the phrases of each picture) T:Carol went on a school trip yesterday.what did she do ? S:rode a horse .....
2.Teach the past tense.
We use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.
am/is (present) →was(past) are (present) → were (past)
一般过去时常表示过去某一时间发生的动作或存在的状态,常与yesterday, last week/month/year等表示过去的时间状语连用。
3.Work on 1a. Match the phrases on the left with the pictures.
4.Check the answers together.
T: What did Carol do in picture 1/2/3/4/5/6? S1: She rode a horse. ...... Step III Listening and speaking (1b, 1c)
1. Ask the students to listen to the conversation and circle the three things Carol did on her school trip in 1a. Check the answers.
2.Listen again and answer the following questions.
3.Show the listening material and read it.
4. Pair Work. Ask the students to make their own conversations about Carol’s school trip.
A: Did Carol take any photos? B: Yes, she did.
A: Did Carol ride a horse? B: No, she didn't. …
