Ⅰ.阅读理解Music is not just a set of sounds and rhythms. Its influence on the brain is much deeper than any other human experience. Keep on reading to know all those amazing powers of music.A recent study suggests that preterm (早产的) babies appear to experience less pain and feed more when listening to music. Experts led by Dr. Manoj Kumar of the University of Alberta, Canada, found that music had a beneficial effect on reducing pain for preterm babies experiencing painful medical tests. It also appeared to benefit full-term babies during operations. Many people experiencing brain damage have speech-and movement-related problems. Music can help recover from brain injuries. As a different and effective treatment, doctors often advise such patients to listen to good music to improve the parts of the brain responsible for these two functions. When people with neurological (神经的) disorders hear a musical beat, it helps them to regain a balanced walk.Though music cannot make deafness disappear, it really can stave off the loss of hearing. There was an experiment involving 163 people where 74 were musicians. Participants were asked to pass some listening tests. Musicians heard the sounds better than non-musicians, and this difference gets clearer with age. This means that a 70-year-old musician hears better than a 50-year-old non-musician, even in a noisy environment.Besides, music mends a broken heart. It is not about a thrown-away love, but about a heart attack. The matter is that music can help people recover from a heart attack or heart operation by reducing blood pressure, slowing down the heartbeat rate, and reducing anxiety. Listening to the quality music produces positive emotions, improves the movement of blood, and expands blood vessels, thus, promoting quick recovery of the whole cardiovascular (心血管的) system.语篇大意:这是一篇说明文,主要说明了音乐对人的大脑和心理所能够产生的积极影响。

A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity can slow down the aging process. Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming weaker. Their research shows that devotion to a lifetime of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also more healthily①.For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 non-professional cyclists between the ages of 55 and 79. This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. We will call this group the “cyclists”.Researchers then found 130 people to make up the second group. Within this group, 75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36. The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. We will c all this group the “ non-exercisers.Smokers, heavy drinkers and people with other health issues were not included in the study. Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass, muscular strength, percentage of body fat, cholesterol levels and the strength of their immune systems. Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups. Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat and cholesterol levels did not increase with age.The researchers also found something they had not expected②. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either. The researchers advise us all to find an exercise that we like in our lives.。
====Word行业资料分享--可编辑版本--双击可删====Module3 MusicJoseph Haydn (1732 - 1809) was an Austrian composer and is known as "the father of the symphony". Other composers had written symphonies before Haydn, but he changed the symphony into a long piece for a large orchestra. He was born in a village in Austria, the son of a peasant. He had a beautiful singing voice. After studying music in Vienna, Haydn went to work at the court of a prince in eastern Austria, where he became director of music. Having worked there for 30 years, Haydn moved to London, where he was very successful.Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) was a composer, possibly the greatest musical genius of all time. He only lived 35 years and he composed more than 600 pieces of music.Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria. His father Leopold was a musician and orchestra conductor. Wolfgang had musical talent from a very early age. He learned to play the harpsichord when he was four, he started composing music when he was five, and when he was six, he played the harpsichord in a concert for the Empress of Austria.By the time he was 14, Mozart had composed many pieces for the harpsichord, piano and violin, as well as for orchestras. While he was still a teenager, Mozart was already a big star and toured Europe giving concerts. Haydn met Mozart in 1781 and was very impressed with him. "He is the greatest composer the world has known," he said the two were friends until Mozart's death in 1791.Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) was born in Bonn, Germany(1770-1827)He showed musical talent when he was very young, and learned to play the violin and piano from his father, who was a singer. Mozart met Beethoven and was impressed by him. "He will give something wonderful to the world," he said.Beethoven met Haydn in 1791, but was not impressed by the older man. After they had known each other for many years, Beethoven said, "He is a good composer, but he has taught me nothing." However, it was Haydn who encouraged Beethoven to move to Vienna.Beethoven became very popular in the Austrian capital and stayed there for the rest of his life. As he grew older, he began to go deaf. He became completely deaf during the last years of his life, but he continued composing.源-于-网-络-收-集。
必修第二册Unit3阅读理解题组——练速度(35 mins)阅读理解AThere is a very special wolf that lives in Africa. They are actually called the African wild dogs,or painted dogs. These animals live in open woodlands,or in the plains of Africa.Today, however, most of the animals can be found in the eastern or southern Africa. These animals are beautiful. They have rounded ears instead of pointed like most dogs, and they have four toes on each of their four feet, also a unique characteristic because other dogs have five.Their fur is always different from each other. The fur is usually a combination of black, brown, red and white, and sometimes even yellow. No wonder they're called painted dogs. The African wild dog is a very social animal. They live in groups and have numbers from five to about twenty. The members of a group are always very close to one another. They communicate in their own language or body language. When someone is very old or sick, the others will help, and they are willing to share the food with the elders and with those who are weak, which is what we should learn from. The family does everything together, from raising young and sleeping together,to hunting. When they hunt, they will work together using teamwork to kill animals that are larger than them. They sometimes hunt farm animals. This is unfortunate, because both poachers, and people who own farms shoot the painted dogs who are just trying to survive. Before, there used to be many large groups throughout the land, but now the African wild dog is very rare. They are also losing their population because of their own loss of habitat.1.From the passage we learn that the African wild dog .A.lives in the north of AfricaB.has sixteen toes altogetherC.has pointed ears like most dogsD.lives in forests in groups2.Why do African wild dogs get the the author, what should we learn from African wild dogs?A.They always do everything together.B.They help the sick, the elderly and the weak.C.They are always very close to one another.D.They communicate in their own language.4.Which of the following is NOT the reason why African wild dogs are becoming very rare?A.Poachers kill some of them.B.They are short of food sometimes.C.They are losing their habitat.D.Farmers shoot some of them.5.Where could this passage probably be found?A.The Travelers.B.Fashion Weekly.C.Animal World.D.Star Magazine.B(2021·天津南开一模)At age 22,Hikari Oberman has already been a lifeguard for four st week,Oberman talked to The Garden Island about how he helped save lives during a recent rescue. On Dec.30,Oberman and his co-worker Cope were parked in their truck at Anini Beach when two workers ran up to them and said,“I think someone's getting stuck in the channel!”“I grab our equipment. We start rolling out down there,” Oberman said. When he got out there,Oberman found a stand-up paddler,a man in his late 30s,struggling against the current, with an elderly man holding tightly to the back of the paddleboard. He said,“My co-worker grabs the stand-up guy.Meanwhile,I'm stuck with the older man.”Normally,Oberman said he would pull the paddler up,lay him on the surfboard, climb up behind and paddle from there. He tried that technique at first and quickly realized it was not a practicable option. They were not going anywhere.Waves hit against the extremely sharp reef very hard about 30 yards behind them, and the current was pulling them into it.“It's right behind us.If I stop paddling,we're definitely going to be in that zone,”he said. They started making progress toward the reef, where they might safely be able to climb out.Oberman just focused on forward movement. After about five minutes—“even though it felt longer”—Oberman said his partner had gotten the paddleboarder safely to shore and started coming back out to help.“I look back, and I see our jet ski. He's finally coming in the channel. We're not going to have to worry about that now.”It was a good rescue. When asked what it felt like to save someone's life,Oberman responded,“I love it!That's why we do it!”But as exciting as it might be to perform a big rescue,he explained that the most important part of his job is to keep people from getting into trouble in the first place.6.How did Hikari Oberman react to the two workers' cry for help?A.He dragged the two workers to his truck.B.He rolled the equipment to the channel.C.He called his co-worker to run to the beach.D.He made his way to the channel without delay.7.What does the underlined part “They were not going anywhere.”in Paragraph 6 probably mean?A.They were unwilling to go anywhere.B.They were waiting others for help.C.They were being pulled by the current.D.They were going to give up.8.What did the author want to show by mentioning the waves?A.It was the perfect time to surf.B.The reef was so hard to damage.C.The situation was extremely serious.D.The paddlers were pushed forward.9.Which of the following things contributed more to the rescue?A.The jet ski.B.The current.C.The paddleboard.D.The truck.10.What is the author's attitude towards Oberma's job?A.Skeptical.B.Tolerate.C.Approving.D.Frightened.C(2019·天津卷)Would you BET on the future of this man?He is 53 years old. Most of his adult life has been a losing struggle against debt and misfortune.A war injury has made his left hand stop functioning, and he has often been in prison.Driven by heaven-knows-what motives,he determines to write a book. The book turns out to be one that has appealed to the world for more than 350 years. That former prisoner was Cervantes, and the book was Don Quixote(《堂吉诃德》).And the story poses an interesting question:why do some people discover new vitality and creativity to the end of their days, while others go to seed long before? We've all known people who run out of steam before they reach life's halfway mark.I'm not talking about those who fail to get to the top.We can't all get there.I'm talking about people who have stopped learning on growing because they have adopted the fixed attitudes and opinions that all too often come with passing years. Most of us,in fact, progressively narrow the variety of our lives. We succeed in our field of specialization and then become trapped in it.Nothing surprises us.We lose our sense of wonder. But,if we are willing to learn, the opportunities are everywhere. The things we learn in maturity seldom involve information and skills. We learn to bear with the things we can't change. We learn to avoid self-pity.We learn that however much we try to please, some people are never going to love us—an idea that troubles at first but is eventually relaxing. With high motivation and enthusiasm,we can keep on learning. Then we will know how important it is to have meaning in our life. However,we can achieve meaning only if we have made a commitment to something larger than our own little egos(自我),whether to loved ones,to fellow humans,to work,or to some moral concept. Many of us equate(视……等同于)“commitment” with such “caring” occupations as teaching and nursing. But doing any ordinary job as well as one can is in itself an admirable commitment.People who work toward such excellence—whether they are driving a truck,or running a store—make the world better just by being the kind of people they are. They've learned life's most valuable lesson.11.The passage starts with the story of Cervantes to show that .A.loss of freedom stimulates one's creativityB.age is not a barrier to achieving one's goalC.misery inspires a man to fight against his fateD.disability cannot stop a man's pursuit of success12.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A.End one's struggle for liberty.B.Waste one's energy taking risks.C.Miss the opportunity to succeed.D.Lose the interest to continue learning.13.What could be inferred from Paragraph 4?A.Those who dare to try often get themselves trapped.B.Those who tend to think back can hardly go ahead.C.Opportunity favors those with a curious mind.D.Opportunity awaits those with a cautious mind.14.What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 5?A.A tough man can tolerate suffering.B.A wise man can live without self-pity.C.A man should try to satisfy people around him.D.A man should learn suitable ways to deal with life.15.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?A.To provide guidance on leading a meaningful adult life.B.To stress the need of shouldering responsibilities at work.C.To state the importance of generating motivation for learning.D.To suggest a way of pursuing excellence in our lifelong career.DMany people around me make a difference to the world on a daily basis—being kind in unexpected ways and sharing the generosity of their lives with others.I,like many of them, volunteer some of my time in order to give back just a little of what I am so blessed to have.I volunteered to go to Guatemala with an eyeglasses team from International Relief Teams—an organization I have supported in other ways for many years. Our team went to a small town in Guatemala,San Augustin. We set up our tables and packages of pre-made glasses in the dirty courtyard of a clinic, put up the Snellen chart(an eye chart) on a wall, and began our work.Young and old people came from many of the surrounding towns. Most had never received an eye exam before. They waited for hours patiently in the sun, never complaining. If we could help them out, their thankfulness for a simple pair of glasses was overwhelming. Some only left with eye drops or sunglasses, even so these people expressed their gratitude sincerely. All of them were very generous with blessings and smiles. We heard over and over from people who knew their eyes needed help but they had not gone to a doctor because it was too expensive,or had not got the glasses they needed for the same reason. It's so easy to overlook how much difference the volunteers' small actions can make to the lives of people in Guatemala.Glasses in my country are so easily available, but to people in Guatemala, they are not.As those who could give them a hand,we watched their lives change. What a gift sight is—and what a difference being able to see clearly makes! Here,we'd like you to join us and take action to help people in need. And every day, those actions change lives. No action is too small;no action is ever wasted.16.According to Paragraph 1,the author is .A.a major host of good deedsB.a sponsor of an eyeglasses teamC.a generous neighbor in his communityD.a supporter of International Relief Teams17.What do we know about the volunteers in the eyeglasses team?A.Their working environment is simple.B.They are medical experts nationwide.C.Their initial preparation is inadequate.D.They have served people in Guatemala for years.18.Which of the following words can be used to describe most people in Guatemala?A.Kind and helpful.B.Poor but grateful.C.Considerate and patient.D.Knowledgeable but unhealthy.19.What can we infer from Paragraph 4?A.Rome was not built in a day.B.Actions speak louder than words.C.Don't look down upon those less fortunate.D.Don't take what you have today for granted.20.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?A.To urge people to protect their eyes.B.To ask people to volunteer in Guatemala.C.To call on people to do good deeds in daily life.D.To show the difficult life of people in Guatemala.

A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later iformed me that I was “not athletic.”The idea that I was“not athletic”stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic①. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills! The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up with sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.Shortly after crossing the start line,my shoe laces (鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted! At mile 3,I passed a sign:“GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”By mile 17,I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain,I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.By mile 21,I was starving! As I approached mile 23,I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had②.Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签),I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.。
