Unit4 单元时事拓展阅读阅读提示:《霸王别姬》:让国粹从中国走向世界。
You’re probably familiar with the movie Farewell to My Concubine (霸王别姬)directed by Chen Kaige. The film tells the story of two Peking Opera performers who train together from childhood to perform the opera Farewell to My Concubine.①But many of us may not be so familiar with the opera itself.Farewell to My Concubine, one of the masterpieces of traditional Peking Opera, is based on an event in 202 BC. In that year, Xiang Yu and Liu Bang were fighting for the throne aft er the fall of the Qin Dynasty. With his army surrounded by Liu’s forces, Xiang found himself in a desperate situation. To show her loyalty to Xiang during this terrible time, his concubine Yu Ji committed suicide rather than risking being caught by the enemy. But it isn’t simply the story itself that makes the opera famous but the great actors who have played its roles.②The part of Yu Ji, for instance, was once played by one of the most outstanding Peking Opera performers, Mei Lanfang (1894--1961). It used to be common in Peking Opera for male performers to play female characters. And Mei,capacity to play women and sing like women was what brought Yu Ji to life. But Peking Opera is about far more than singing. Li Shengshu,a Chinese Peking Opera performer, once told the Guardian,“You have to be good at everything:singing, acting, and acrobatics (杂技)” He explained the special approaches needed for Peking Opera,“It begins with the breath. You have to lift your spirit. Even backstage, you perform.” This kind of commitment by the performers helped Peking Opera win international fame. In recognition of its contribution to culture, it was added to the World Intangible Cultural Heritage(世界非物质文化遗产)list by the UNESCO in 2010.During the 21st Beijing Music Festival in October, Farewell to My Concubine was given a new look. Interactive technology and 3D displays were used to show that this two-century-old opera is still relevant today. It is part of a general effort to renew Peking Opera. Indeed, the opera has evolved (发展)over time:It has been performed in many different ways and by many different performers. But what does not change, like Peking Opera as a whole, is its essential Chinese cultural character.③。

高一英语必修二外研版四单元范文Here is an essay on the topic "A Sample Essay for Unit 4 of Senior High School English Textbook (People's Education Press Version)," with the content written in English and the word count exceeding 1,000 words.Unit 4 of the senior high school English textbook (People's Education Press version) covers a range of topics related to the theme of "Customs and Traditions." This unit provides students with the opportunity to explore the diverse cultural practices and beliefs that exist around the world. As a sample essay for this unit, I will delve into the significance of traditional Chinese festivals and their role in preserving cultural identity.China is a country with a rich and vibrant cultural heritage, and its traditional festivals are a testament to the enduring spirit of its people. These festivals are not merely celebrations; they are deeply rooted in the country's history, mythology, and beliefs, serving as a means to connect the present with the past. One of the most prominent and widely celebrated festivals in China is the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. The Lunar New Year, which typically falls between late January and mid-February, is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar. It marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunisolar calendar, which combines elements of both the solar and lunar calendars. The festival is celebrated with a wide range of customs and traditions, each with its own symbolic meaning and significance. One of the most iconic traditions associated with the Lunar New Year is the red and gold decorations that adorn homes, businesses, and public spaces. The color red is believed to bring good luck and prosperity, while gold symbolizes wealth and abundance. These vibrant hues are used to create a festive atmosphere and to ward off evil spirits.Another integral part of the Lunar New Year celebrations is the family reunion. During this time, families come together to share a meal, known as the "reunion dinner," and to exchange gifts. This tradition is rooted in the belief that the new year should be ushered in with a sense of unity and harmony within the family. The reunion dinner is often a lavish affair, with a variety of traditional dishes such as dumplings, fish, and noodles, each with its own symbolic meaning. The Lunar New Year celebrations also include the tradition of giving out "red envelopes," or Hongbao, which are small envelopes filled with money. These red envelopes are typically given to children andunmarried individuals as a symbol of good luck and prosperity for the new year. The act of giving and receiving Hongbao is a cherished tradition that strengthens family bonds and social connections. In addition to the Lunar New Year, China also celebrates a number of other traditional festivals throughout the year, each with its own unique customs and rituals. One such festival is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, typically in September or October. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of the harvest and the moon, and it is marked by the consumption of mooncakes, a traditional pastry that is often filled with sweet lotus seed paste or red bean paste. The round shape of the mooncake is symbolic of family unity and the full moon, which is believed to bring good luck and prosperity.Another significant festival in the Chinese calendar is the Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day. This festival, which falls in early April, is a time for families to visit the graves of their ancestors and to pay their respects. The tradition of tomb sweeping is a way for people to honor their ancestors and to maintain a connection with their cultural heritage. These traditional festivals not only serve as a means of culturalpreservation but also as a way for people to come together and strengthen their sense of community. They provide a platform for the transmission of cultural values and beliefs from one generation to the next, ensuring that the rich tapestry of Chinese culture continues to thrive. In conclusion, the traditional festivals of China are a testament to the enduring spirit of the country's cultural heritage. They serve as a means of preserving cultural identity, strengthening family bonds, and fostering a sense of community. As China continues to modernize and evolve, it is crucial that these festivals and their associated customs and traditions are maintained and celebrated, ensuring that the rich cultural legacy of the country is passed down to future generations.。
Good Book, Bad Movie?好书坏电影?1 They say that “a picture is worth a thousand words”, but the briefest look at books and the movies based on them would have anyone questioning this common saying. All too often, great words end up being turned into cinematic “turkeys”.人们常说“一图胜千词”,但是简单对照一下书籍和由之而改编的电影,就会让人们开始质疑这一说法。
很多时候,优秀的文字作品最终却变成电影中的失败之作。
2 Good movies need good stories. If so, why has one of the earliest and greatest works in Western storytelling, Homer’s The Odyssey, never had an equally great movie based on it? Movies need strong characters. So why have the movies based on The Great Gatsby never been praised as “great”? Movies of course need impressive images, so why has Alice in Wonderland only resulted in movies best described as “interesting”?
If you’re making a film with other people, organize your cast and crew effectively. Make sure everybody knows their role and what day and time they’re needed.Give people specific jobs, so they can become experts in their fields. For example, a sound recordist listens to the sound through headphones as it’s being recorded, and holds an extra microphone if needed. ①A camera operator frames the picture, sets focus, checks the light and records the action. An editor “cuts”the pictures together after they’re shot(拍摄)A producer is the contact point of the film. He or she makes sure the crew and cast are there on time, talks to the press and organizes the budget.A director has to make sure his vision is communicated. To do this, everyone needs to be clear about what the director expects from each scene and each shot. You may also need a make-up artist (化妆师),a choreographer(舞蹈指导),a driver, etc. However, you can quite easily make your first film on your own. Make a schedule that says which shots are to be taken where and when (this is called a shooting schedule) and when you’ve completed a take, cross it off the list.②Remember that you may want to shoot “out of order”, e.g. shoot the last scene first, and the first scene last. Similarly if the film begins and ends with a tree in a park,it may make sense to film both sc enes while you’re there.Continuity is particularly important in drama. Take a Polaroid camera and take photos to record details. You may need to come back to a scene days later. When you decide your locations, consider whether you need permission to use the space, how noisy it will be and what the light will be like at the time of the day when you will need to use it.③Is there power available? Are you likely to be interrupted? If you’re making an animation (动画片),have a space that you can control. You may need extra lights and you may need to leave work in progress. Make sure people living with you are aware what’s happening. Animation needs a lot of undisturbed concentration and patience. Keep at it and it’ll pay off. Aardman and Disney bothstarted off at home experimenting with clay, pens and a camera.。
必修二unit4课文Understanding ideas. When HAMLET meets Peking OPERA.1. I thought I knew a lot about Hamlet. As a high school student with English literature as one of my main subjects, I have to! Shakespeare's Hamlet is probably the most important play buy the most important writer in English. Almost everybody knows "To be, or not to be", right? Having seen quite a few productions of hamlet and read the play many times, I was full of confidence until the packing opera came to town!2. Dating back to the 18th century, the Peking Opera has over 200 years of history. Does this man is easier than a Shakespeare play to understand? To find out the answer I just had to go and see the revenge of Prince Zidan-the Peking Opera version of Hamlet.3. Starting with an orchestra playing traditional Chinese instruments, the opera brought a completely new sound to my Western ears. At first, I thought what I heard was a violin, but later I learned that it was an instrument with two strings called jinghu. Then seeing the main characters come on stage, I was surprised! The costumes and masks were amazing. The performers of course sang in Chinese, but the music, exaggerated movements and mime helped get the meanings across to theaudience. The voices themselves sounded really unique-some of the female voices were so high that I was sure they could break glass! And the stage was really simple: a decorated whip represented a horse, and a screen with Chinese characters, a study. Using such techniques, the oprea had transformed a small stage into the whole universe.4. Easily my favorite part of the show was how the characters moved on stage. I had never seen Prince Hamlet do a backflip before! That was simply incredible. It was so dazzling and energetic that I wasn't sure if the characters were performers or athletes! Everyone was clapping!5. Before experiencing the revenge of Prince Zidan, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. But in fact, I was on the edge of my seat! Feeling the strong emotions of love, anger, fear and grief in the performance, I could easily recognize the theme of Hamlet. So if you want to see a show that combines music, singing, drama ,poetry and costume design with explosive effect, The Revenge of Prince Zidan ticks all the right boxes!Developing ideas.Good Book Bad Movie?1. They say that "a picture is worth a thousand words", but the briefest look at books and the movies based on them would have anyone questioning this common saying. All too often, great worlds end up being turned into cinematic "turkeys".2. Good movies need good stories. If so, why has one of the earliest and greatest works in Western storytelling, Homer's The Odyssey, never had an equally great movie based on it? Movies need strong characters. So why have the movies based on The Great Gatsby never been praised as "great"? Movies of course need impressive images, so why has Alice in Wonderland only resulted in movies best described as "interesting"?3. One of the key reasons behind this is that while a book usually takes a few days to read, a movie typically lasts under two hours. This means that great books can lose plot details and characters when they moved to the big screen. This is something that even the highly successful Harry Potter movies can't escape from, with fans of the books disappointed not to see some of their favorite characters in the movie versions.4. Movies also disappoint us when things don't look the way we imagined them in the books. Take, for example, the epic movie Troy, which is in part based on Homer's The Iliad and was met with mixed reviews fromthe audience. The most questionable issue was the part of Helen. Many people thought she didn't live up to Helen's title of "the most beautiful woman in the world" influencing opinions of the movie to some extent.5. There are thousand Harmlets in a thousand people's eyes. Furthermore, books and movies are two different forms of media and therefore have different rules. With this in mind, perhaps we should judge a movie in its own right, and not against its original source. Interestingly, audiences have in recent years turned to television series such as Sherlock or Mad Men, which can have many characters and gradual plot development. Perhaps, one day, readers of F.Scott Fitzgerald's most admired work will find themselves glued to their screens by as episodes of The Great Gatsby.Writing a movie review. The princess diaries.Viewer reviews.☆☆☆☆☆ What an interesting movie.2 March by JaneThe Princess Diaries is a movie about a teenager named MiaThermopolis. Shortly before her sixteenth birthday, she is shocked by the life changing news that she is the princess of a fictional kingdom called Genovia. Starring Annie Hathaway, it is definitely a movie you should not miss!Mia, a socially awkward American girl, becomes princess of Genovia when her long -absent father, the Crown Prince, dies. She's taught how to behave perfectly. However, things get out of hand when the media gets hold of the story, putting Mia in the spotlight. On top of this, she must make a choice between continuing the normal life of a San Francisco teen and stepping up to the throne. The movie explores the theme of responsibility in an intelligent and humorous way. The most memorable scene is towards the end of the movie when, during Mia's, darkest moment of self -doubt, she is touched by a letter her father left her." Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear." It's one of the most unforgettable lines from the movie. The Princess Diaries is an interesting movie. It's about being and bettering yourself, and about knowing who your real friends are. Wach it now!。
