A Happy Chinese New Year!

Step1 Lead in

T shows Ss some pictures about the Spring Festival and asks Ss some questions:

Q1: What festival is this?

Q2: Do you like the Chinese New Year?

Q3: Why do you like it?

Q4: What do you always do during the Chinese New Year?

Step2 Presentation

1. Present the new words from the above questions and teach the new words:

lion, lion dance, firework (let off fireworks), show, radio, take photos.

2. We do a lot of interesting things during the Chinese New Year. Do you know

how people in New York celebrate the Chinese New Year? Please turn to

page 63. Read the poster and answer my questions.

3. Present the questions

Q1: What are people going to do to celebrate the Chinese New Year?

Q2: What are they going to eat?

Q3: What can they watch on that day?

Q4: What day will they hold the party?

Q5: Where are they going to have the party?

Step3 Listening activities

1. Let Ss go through the table quickly

2. Now listen to the radio programme and write down the time they have each

activity.

3. Play the tape recorder

4. Now, we know when they will do the activities, but where will they have all

the activities? Please listen to the second part of the radio programme, and

write down the exact places.

5. Check out the answers together

6. Wendy is writing a postcard to Millie about the Chinese New Year

celebrations. Let’s help Wendy finish her postcard.
