青岛市2014高考英语阅读理解、完形填空及阅读类训练(20)(答案及解析)You can not see any object unless light from that object gets into your eyes. Some of the things you see give off light of their own. The sun, the stars, a lighted lamp are examples that can be seen by their own light. Such things are luminous. Most of the things you see are not giving off light of their own. They are simply reflecting light that falls on them from the sun or some other luminous bodies. The moon, for example, does not give off any light of its own. It is non-luminous. You see it because sunlight falls on it and some of it reflects in our direction. So moon light is only second hand sunlight. When you look at a book, it sends to your eyes some of the light which falls on it, and you see the book. If light could be kept out from where you are so that there would be no light for the book to reflect, then you could not see the book even with your eyes wide open.Light travels so fast that the time in which it travels from the book you are reading to your eyes is so short as if there were no time at all. Light reaches us from the moon, which is about 380 000 kilometers away, in only a little more than a second.1. You can see the book because_______.A. your eyes are close to itB. it reflects some of the sunlightC. it has light of its ownD. your eyesight can get to it2. The underlined word “luminous” means_______.A. visibleB. all colorsC. giving off lightD. sunlight3. ________ have light of their own.A. The sun and the moonB. The stars and the earthC. The moment you open your eyes the light from the book travels to your eyes.D. Light travels so fast that there is no time for you to read.(1—4 BCCC)【答案与解析】本文介绍了光的种类及其特征。

青岛市2014高考英语完形填空、阅读理解训练题(9)及答案阅读理解While some scientists overlook the existence of a sixth sense for danger, a new research from Washington University in St. Louis has identified a brain area that clearly acts as an early warning system and helps us adjust our behavior to avoid dangerous situations."Our brains are better at picking up not obvious warning signs than we previously thought," said Joshua Brown, PhD, a research associate in psychology in the Feb. 18 issue of the journal Science. The findings offer exact scientific evidence for a new way to form a concept of the complex control processes taking place in and around the ACC, a brain area located near the top of the frontal lobes(耳垂) and along the walls that divide the left and right hemispheres(大脑半球)."In the past, we found activity in the ACC when people had to make a difficult decision, or after they make a mistake," Brown said. "But now we find that this brain area can actually learn to recognize when you might make a mistake, even before a difficult decision has to be made. So the ACC appears to act as an early warning system —— it learns to warn us in advance when our behavior might lead to a negative outcome, so that we can be more careful and avoid making a mistake."By providing a clearer picture of the cognitive mechanisms(认知结构) by which we self monitor and control our behavior, the study is an important step in efforts to develop more effective treatments for mental illnesses. It also provides a new way of understanding inappropriate behaviors that often accompany mental illnesses. "Our results suggest how injury of the ACC mechanisms can lead to breakdowns in the early warning system, so that the brain fails to stop or control inappropriate behavior ahead of time," said Brown. "On the other hand, in those persons with mental disorder, the ACC might warn of an upcoming problem even when no problem is in the existence."Known to be an important part of the brain's control system, the ACC is believedto help adjust between cold, hard, fact-based reasoning and emotional responses, such as love, fear or expectation.68. According to the passage, the ACC____________.A. refers to the sixth sense for dangerB. deals with obvious warning situationsC. connects the left and right hemispheresD. sends warning messages in advance69. The new research is beneficial because it ________ .A. provides a new way of avoiding mistakesB. adjusts emotional responses in time of dangerC. helps find better treatments for mental illnessesD. assists people in predicting and avoiding danger70. The new research helps us understand _________.A. why we are likely to make mistakes when the ACC is badly injuredB. why people with mental illnesses usually have so many strange behaviorsC. how the ACC works when something dangerous happensD. how our brain warns us of failure in advance参考答案68-70 DCA阅读理解The Chinese mainland and Taiwan today extended the number of regular cross-Straits direct passenger flights from 108 to 270 a week.Six cities, which are Hefei, Harbin, Nanchang, Guiyang, Ningbo and Jinan, are joining another 21 mainland cities in operating direct passenger flights to Taiwan, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said. The 108 direct passenger flights previously operated were all classed as chartered(特许的)flights. Packaging (包装) is the silent but persuading salesman. There on the shelves, each bottle, can, box, and jar has been carefully designed and measured to speak to the inner self of the consumer(消费者),because he is buying not only a product but also his belief in life.Scientists have studied consumer behavior recently and found that the look of the package has a great effect on the “quality” of the product and on how well it sells, because “Consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package. Many products are packages and many packages are products”,as Louis Cheskin, the first social scientist studying consumers’ feelings for packaging, noticed.Colors are one of the best tools in packaging.Studies of eye movement have shown that colors draw human attention quickly.Take V8 for example. For many years, the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that it is very good for your body. And the word “green” today can keep food prices going up. Shapes are another attraction.Circles often suggest happiness and peacefulness, because these shapes are pleasing to both the eye and the heart. That’s why the round yellow M signs of McDonald’s are inviting to both young and old. This new consumer response (反应) to the colors and shapes of packages reminds producers and sellers that people buy to satisfy both body and soul.1. According to the passage, ________ seems to be able to persuade a consumer to buy the product.A.the pleasing color of the packageB.the special taste of the productC.the strange shape of the packageD.the belief in the product解析:选A。
山东省青岛第一中学最新高考英语阅读理解专题练习(含答案)一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解City trees grow faster and die younger than trees in rural forestry, a new study finds. Over their lifetimes, then, urban trees will likely absorb less CO2 from the air than forest trees. As we all know, the earth would be freezing or burning hot without CO2. However, CO2is a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps energy from the sun as/heat. That makes temperatures near the ground rise. Human activities, especially the widespread burning-of fossil(化石)fuels, have been sending extra greenhouse gases into the air. This has led to a rise in average temperatures across the globe.Studies had shown forests readily absorb CO2, but there hadn't been much data on whether city trees grow, die and absorb CO2at the same rate as forest trees do. So some researchers decided to find out.To figure out how quickly trees were growing, researchers tracked their diameters (the width of their trunks) between 2005 and 2014. A tree's diameter increases as it grows, just as a person's waist size increases as they gain weight. About half the weight of a tree is carbon, research has shown. Most of the rest is water. Over the nine years' tracking, the researchers found city trees absorbed four times as much carbon from the air as forest trees. However, they were twice as likely to die. So over the lifetime of each type of tree, forest trees actually absorbed more CO2.City trees grew faster because they had less competition for light from their neighbors. In a forest, trees tend to grow close together, shading their neighbors. Street trees also benefit from higher levels of nitrogen (氮)in rainwater. Nitrogen helps plants grow. Waste gases from gas-burning cars also contain nitrogen, thus enriching city air with nitrogen. Later, rainwater may wash much of it to the ground. Some street trees may also have better access to water than trees in the country because the underground water pipes can leak.(1)What can he known about CO2 from paragraph 2?A. It is one of the side effects of greenhouses.B. It greatly accelerates the process of global warming.C. It results from the widespread burning of fossil fuels.D. It prevents the earth from becoming unsuitable to live on.(2)Why did researchers track the diameters of trees?A. To know about their growth rates.B. To find out how much they weigh.C. To check whether they were healthy.D. To assess the carbon amounts in them.(3)What advantage do city trees have over forest trees?A. They are more likely to access growth promoters.B. They can enjoy more water coming from the air.C. They can enjoy more shade from neighbors.D. They are better at competing for light.(4)What will probably be talked about if the passage is continued?A. How urban trees can live longer.B. Why city living makes trees die young.C. How trees respond to dry soil conditions.D. Why faster-growing trees absorb more C02.【答案】(1)D(2)A(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文。

青岛市高考英语试卷阅读理解题分类汇编(含答案)一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Attitudes toward new technologies often fall along generational lines. That is, generally, younger people tend to outnumber older people on the front end of a technological change. It is not always the case, though. When you look at attitudes toward driverless cars, there doesn't seem to be a clear generational divide. The public overall is split on whether they'd like to use a driverless car. In a study last year, of all people surveyed, 48 percent said they wanted to ride in one, while 50 percent did not.The fact that attitudes toward self-driving cars appear to be so steady across generations suggests how transformative the change to driverless cars could be. Not everyone wants a driverless car now-and no one can get one yet—but among those who are open to them, every age group is similarly involved.Actually, this isn't surprising. Whereas older generations are sometimes reluctant to adopt new technologies, driverless cars promise real value to these age groups in particular. Older adults, especially those with limited mobility or difficulty driving on their own are one of the classic use-cases for driverless cars. This is especially interesting when you consider that younger people are generally more interested in travel-related technologies than older ones. When it comes to driverless cars, differences in attitude are more pronounced based on factors not related to age. College graduates, for example, are particularly interested in driverless cars compared with those who have less education: 59 percent of college graduates said they would like to use a driverless car compared with 38 percent of those with a high-school diploma or less. Where a person lives matters, too. More people who lived in cities and suburbs said they wanted to try driverless cars than those who lived in rural areas. While there's reason to believe that interest in self-driving cars is going up across the board, a person's age will have little to do with how self-driving cars can become mainstream. Once driverless cars are actually available for sale, the early adopters will be the people who can afford to buy them.(1)What happens when a new technology appears?A.It farther widens the gap between the old and the young.B.It usually draws different reactions from different age groups.C.It often leads to innovations in other related fields.D.It contributes greatly to the advance of society as a whole.(2)What does the author say about the driverless car?A.It will not necessarily reduce road accidents.B.It has given rise to unrealistic expectations.C.It does not seem to create a generational divide.D.It may start a revolution in the car industry.(3)Why does the driverless car appeal to some old people?A.It adds to the safety of their travel.B.It saves their energy.C.It arouses their interest in life.D.It helps with their mobility.(4)What is likely to affect one's attitude toward the driverless car?A.The location of their residence.B.The amount of training they received.C.The length of their driving experience.D.The field of their special interest.【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)D(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了老年人和年轻人对无人驾驶汽车的态度上并没有表现出明显的代沟以及影响人们对无人驾驶汽车的态度的几个因素。
青岛市2014高考英语阅读理解、完形填空及阅读类训练(10)(答案及解析).阅读理解Words:362 难度系数:★★建议用时:8分钟In so many ways, cyberspace(网络空间) mirrors the real world.People ask for information, play games, and share hobby tips.Others buy and sell products.Still others look for friendship,or even love. Some Internet users want more than just someone to chat with. They’re looking for serious love relationships. Is cyberspace a good place to find love? That answer depends on whom you ask. Some of these relationships actually succeed.Others end in tears.Unlike the real world, however, your knowledge about a person is limited to words on a computer screen.Identity and appearance mean very little in cyberspace.Rather,a person’s thoughts or at least the thoughts they type are what really counts. So even the shyest person can become a chat room star.Usually, this “faceless” communication doesn’t create problems.Identity doesn’t really matter when you’re in a chat room discussing politics or hobbies. In fact, this emphasis on the ideas themselves makes the Internet a great place for exciting conversation.Where else can so many people come together to chat?Supporters of online relationships claim that the Internet allows couples to know how intelligent they are first.Personal appearance doesn’t get in the way.But critics(批评者)of online relationships argue that no one can truly know another person in cyberspace. Why? Because the Internet gives users a lot of control over how others view them.Internet users can carefully choose their words to fit whatever image they wantcommunication is doing for their image. In a sense, they’re not really themselves. All of this may be fine if the relationship stays in cyberspace. But not knowing a person is a big problem in a love relationship. With so many unknowns,it’s easy to let one’s imagination “fill in the blanks”.This surely leads to disappointment when couples meet in person. How someone imagines an online friend is often quite different from the real person. So,before looking for love in cyberspace, remember the advice of Internet pioneerClifford Stoll,“Life in the real world is far richer than anything you’ll find on a computer screen.”1.Which would the critics of online relationships most probably disagree to? A.Nobody can truly know another person in cyberspace.B.Internet users can choose words to create any image they like.C.The Internet allows couples know how intelligent they are.D.In a sense,Internet users are not really themselves.解析:选C。

山东省青岛第二中学最新高考英语阅读理解专题练习及答案一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Imagine someone who has spent the majority of their life sitting with a sign on the side of the road and that very person giving someone their last 20 dollars. That's exactly what Marine Corps veteran (退伍军人) Johnny Bobbitt, 34, did in October in Philadelphia.Bobbitt served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a paramedic (医务辅助人员) in Vance County, N. C. before he became homeless. Nobody knew how he got to where he was because he was discreet about that. One night in October, Bobbitt was sitting roadside with a sign in Philadelphia as usual, when Kate McClure of Florence Township, N. J. was driving home down Interstate 95 and ran out of gas. Scared and nervous, she got out of the car to head to the nearest gas station. As McClure was heading to the nearest gas station, she ran into Bobbitt and he told her to get back in the vehicle and lock the door. Minutes later, he appeared with a red gas can. He'd used his last $20 to buy her gas. After that unexpected meeting, McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, who both live in New Jersey, visited Bobbitt several times to deliver gift cards, cash, snacks and toiletries. They then decided to create a fund raising page so he wouldn't have to spend the holidays sleeping on the street.McClure started the GoFundMe page on November 10. With the page, the couple hoped to raise $10,000, enough money for his rent, a reliable vehicle and up to six months' expenses. Bobbitt's story ran in a local paper. By November 15,more than 10,000 local people had made donations through the GoFundMe page and more than $300,000 had been raised. On Thanksgiving, Bobbitt was resting in a hotel, his feet up on the bed, drawing up a grand plan for his new life, thanks to several thousand dollars raised to repay him for a good deed.(1)What does the underlined word "discreet" in paragraph 2 most probably mean?A. 青岛市2014高考英语阅读理解、完形填空及阅读类训练(1)(答案及解析)Words:343 难度系数:★★建议用时:8分钟Grownups know that people and objects are solid. At the movies, we know that if we reach out to touch Tom Cruise, all we will feel is air.But does a baby have this understanding? To see whether babies know objects are solid.Bower designed a method for projecting an optical illusion(视觉影像)of a hanging ball. His plan was to first to give babies a real ball, one they could be expected to show surprised in their faces and movements. All the 16 to 24weekold babies tested were surprised when they reached for the illusion and found that the ball was not there.Grownups also have a sense of object permanence. We know that if we put a box in a room and lock the door, the box will still be there when we come back. But does a baby realize that a ball that rolls under a chair does not disappear and go to nevernever land?Experiments done by Bower suggest that babies develop a sense of object permanence when they are about 18 weeks old.In his experiments, Bower used a toy train that went behind a screen. When 16weekold and 22weekold babies watched the toy train disappear behind the left side of the screen, they looked to the right, expecting it to reappear. If the experiment took the train off the table and lifted the screen, all the babies seemed surprised not to see the train. This seems to show that all the babies had a sense of object permanence. But the second part of the experiment showed that this was not really the case. The researcher substituted(替换) a ball for the train when it went behind the screen. The 22weekold babies seemed surprised and looked back to the left side for the train. But the 16weekold babies did not seem to notice the switch(更换).Thus, the 16weekold babies seemed to have a sense of “something permanence,” while the 22weekold babies had a sense of object permanence related to a particular object.【解题导语】本文是一篇科普短文,大意是通过实验研究儿童是否知道物体是固体的,是否具有物体持久性的感觉,研究表明,16周到24周的婴儿都知道物体是有形的固体,然而第一项研究表明只有18周以上的婴儿才对某个特定的物体的认识具有持久性。

The moves were a gesture of support after the firm's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.Huawei's booming sales show how major parts of its business continue to increase even as the United States tries to persuade other countries to shut Huawei products out of 5G wireless networks and pursues(追究) criminal charges against it. The company expects to overtake Samsung as the world's biggest smartphone maker by next year.Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018, nearly three times as many as Apple(AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apple's sales plunged almost 20%.Huawei's success in China, the world's largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics(地缘政治). Chinese consumers love its flagship, high -end- phones because they have great cameras, cutting edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market. It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.(1)Why did Huawei's China sales increase greatly according to the article?A. Because the company's devices are always popular worldwide.B. Because Chinese consumers' patriotism was aroused.C. Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.D. Because the country's overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.(2)What can we conclude from the third paragraph?A. Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the US's request.B. All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.C. Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huawei's chief financial officer.D. Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer is unfair.(3)How do you understand the underlined word in the fifth paragraph?A. increased greatly by.B. reduced greatly to.C. dropped greatly by.D. remained steady.(4)Why is Huawei's success in China more than about geopolitics?A.
