There is no dinner without an end.

Even the best of friends must part.

Even if you see a friend off for a thousand miles, eventually you have to part

However far I see you off, we will eventually have to part. you may see off a friend and escort him miles and miles away, but you still have to part

Although you may escort a guest a thousand miles, yet the parting must come at last

Farewell must have an end

Whoever suckles me is my mother.

He that serves God for money will serve the devil for better pay

lick the hand of anybody who throws one a few crumbs

obey anybody who feeds one

submit oneself to anyone who feeds one

ready to serve anyone for material benefit

The film actress appeared in all her glory at the ball.

That politician acted like a buffoon during that debate. That politician made a monkey of himself during that debate.

to have distinguished air of elegance and coquetry

to appear in all her glory

to show all sorts of ugly behaviors

act like a buffoon

behave in a revolting manner

cut a contemptible figure

be extremely nauseating

show oneself up as utterly ridiculous

He is lost in medical research.

He is intoxicated in vanity.

1.Prof.Zhang is deeply engrossed in medical research

2.The man is infatuated with fame and gain.

The man is bent on seeking fame and gain.

The man is bent on seeking fame and gain.

前者:be keen on/be gripped by; zero in on; be fixed on

后者:be indulged/rapt in

What he does and says is very accurate and in a reliable manner. He is greatly trusted by us

He acts and speaks quite seriously, thereby being trust by us.

We must all hang together, or we shall all hang separately.

A cannon ball took off his legs, so he laid down his arms.

7 days without water make one weak (week).

There were soldiers outside Buckingham Palace in their bear (bare) skins.

Name no one man.

Able was I ere I saw Elba.

One time when we were all whispering in the bathroom while making "head calls," our drill instructor must have overheard us. To our surprise, she suddenly yelled, "Why do I hear voices in my head?!"

A grasp of mundane affairs is genuine knowledge Understanding of worldly wisdom is true learning

Cheapest is the dearest

The draft amendment to the Electoral Law has proposed equal electoral rights for urban and rural citizens, which, if passed, will "expand people's democracy and safeguard their rights to be the masters of their own destiny", Li Zhaoxing, spokesman for the third session of the 11th NPC, told reporters at a press conference on Thursday. 文中的amendment to the Electoral Law就是指“选举法修正案”,而draft amendment就是指“修正案草案”。 城乡居民选举将有望实现equal representation(同票同权)。 John was drafted into the Army last year. China plans to increase its defense budget by 7.5 percent in 2010, only about half of last year's planned growth of 14.9 percent, a parliament spokesman said here on Thursday. 该预算在fiscal expenditure(财政支出)中所占的比例与去年持平。 家庭内部还可以制定family budget(家庭预算)。

As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank, he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car. He tried again and again but couldn’t get the car moving. Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried. Arthur stopped and asked, “It looks like you’ve got a problem,” Arthur said. “I’m afraid so. I’m in a big hurry and I can’t start my car.” “Is there something I can do to help?” Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said, “Thanks. If you’re sure it wouldn’t be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases in to a taxi.” “No trouble at all. I’d be glad to help.” The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground, he turned to get the other one. Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking, he heard the long loud noise of an alarm. It was from the bank. There had been a robbery (抢劫)! Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions. Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank. People asked each other, “What happened?” But everyone had a different answer. Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him. She looked at the suitcase and then at him. Arthur was surprised. “Why is she looking at me like that?” he thought. “The suitcase! She thinks I’m the bank thief!” Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought, he started to run. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150 左右; 2. 应使用5 个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

Yummy mummy is a slang term used in the United Kingdom to describe young, attractive and wealthy mothers. The term developed in the 2000s, and was often applied to celebrity mothers such as Liz Hurley or Victoria Beckham, who appeared to quickly regain their pre-pregnancy figures after giving birth, and would continue to lead carefree and affluent lifestyles. The city government of Ankang on Thursday evening apologized to a woman who underwent a forced abortion at a hospital in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, adding that officials who have been found to be responsible for the incident will be relieved of their duties.

He is a slow student. He is slow of understanding. He is so slow that I have to explain everything several times. 1. Be slow to promise but quick to practice. 2. Business was rather slow last month. 3. He is slow at speech with women yet. Slow and steady wins the race译成“慢而稳者胜”。 The book is rather slow. You'd better go slow in reach-ing a conclusion. 心 black hearted 黑心 with a heavy heart 心情沉重 break one's heart 伤心 bare one's heart 袒露心迹 set one's heart at ease 放心 with a half heart 半心半意 with all one's heart / heart and soul 全心全意win someone's heart 赢得某人的心 have a heart of gold 有一颗金子般的心from the bottom of one's heart 从心底里 to one's heart's content 心满意足 imprint on one's heart 铭记在心 one's heart being afire 心如火焚 ring in one's heart 萦绕心头 bring one's heart into one's mouth (某人的)心跳到嗓子眼 Hearts which beat in unison are linked. I don't have the heart to leave her alone for long. 汉语说“有心”是intend (to do something) 或(do something) intentionally的意思,也就是说“有心(要做某事)”意为下了决心打算做,英语可以说have a mind (to do something)或set one's mind on (doing something)。 I think in my heart,而要用mind一词,但不需要说think in one's mind。What's in your mind? Let the mind/head rule the heart.(让理智战胜感情。) Look before you leap.(看清楚了再跳。) Everything is difficult before they are easy. Take the warning I sent you before it is too late.(赶紧按照我警告你的那样办,否则就来不及了。) I would rather die before I steal.(我宁死不偷/死也不会偷。) 其实,英语里有许多中性的成语,翻译成褒义还是贬义,一定要看上下文决定,例如:birds of a feather(兴趣爱好相同的人/一丘之貉);enough to make the cat speak(绝妙的/非常糟糕的———以至于连猫都惊讶得开口说话了);full of ambition(有雄心壮志/野心勃勃的);hand in glove with(狼狈为奸/亲密无比);take example by...(以……
