As you preview the material, you get some idea of the content and how it is organized. Later when you begin to read you will recognize less important material and you may skip some of these portions. Skimming helps double your reading speed and improves your comprehension as well. 4. Make good use of your time in class. Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Sit where you can see and hear well. Take notes to help you remember what the teacher says. 5. Study regularly. Go over your notes as soon as you can after class. Review important points mentioned in class as well as points you remain confused about. Read about these points in your textbook. If you know what the teacher will discuss the next day, skim and read that material too. This will help you understand the next class. If you review your notes and textbook regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer. Regular review leads to improved performance on test. 6. Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't worry excessively about a single test. Tests provide grades, but they also let you know what you need to spend more time studying, and they help make your knowledge permanent. There are other techniques that might help you with your studying. Only a few have been mentioned here. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these. 新课标下的高中英语课外阅读活动 瑞安隆山高级中学：项玲玲 【摘要】本文论述了新课程标准背景下开展高中英语课外阅读活动的必要性阅读材料选择的原则和范围、阅读活动的指导和管理以及课外阅读活动的模式。 【关键词】新课程标准，高中英语，阅读材料。 一、新课程标准下开展高中英语课外阅读的必要性。 《普通高中英语课程标准》（实验）（以下简称新课标）更加注重对学生综合语言能力的培养。新课标要求学生具备的综合阅读能力包括语篇领悟能力和语言解码能力；强调多学科知识的贯通；注重培养学生的语篇分析能力、判断能力和逻辑理解能力；要求学生提高阅读速度，增强阅读量和扩大记词汇量等。同时，新课标明确指出，除教材以外，高中英语阅读量六级23万词以下，八级应达到30万词以上。虽然英语实验教材在话题、语篇和词汇等方面都进行了改革，但仍然存在阅读量有限和题材单调等问题。为了实现新课标提出的阅读能力目标，教师应结合教材中课文的主题补充各类富有时代气息的课外阅读材料，指导学生进行大量的课外阅读。 在使用现行高中英语新教材的过程中，笔者所在学校进行了教学改革实验。笔者经过观察、与学生交流讨论，并通过问卷调查的方式对高二105名学生的英语课外阅读状况做了详细的调查和分析。调查结果显示：①有85％的被调查对象认为，课外阅读能提高语言复现率，可以促进对课文内容的学习和掌握，同时也可以培养学生的阅读理解能力。②有56％的被调查对象进行课外阅读的时间较少。③学生课外阅读材料的主要来源是报纸（英语周报或学英语报）。很多学生有目的地选择课外读物。课外阅读的首要目的要提高英语程度。④学生面临的主要问题是很难找到一些合适的阅读材料。⑤学生的英语成绩和在课外的阅读上所花费的时间呈正相关。⑥有60％的学生希望教师每周抽出一定的时间进行课外阅读指导或组织学生交流、讨论和展示。本文将介绍笔者所在学校开展课外阅读活动实践的一些思路和做法，以期与同行交流。 二、课外阅读材料的选择 1、课外阅读材料的选择原则 （1）发展性和拓展性 选择课外阅读材料要结合课内阅读内容，并作为其延伸，以弥补教材的不足，进而实现课内外知识的连接和扩展。在课外阅读过程中，学生可以将课内所学的知识迁移到课外阅读中。新颖且丰富的课外阅读材料可以激发生的兴趣和求知欲望，促使他们去探究和获取更多的新知识。所选择的课外阅读材料要有利于拓展思维和开阔其视野，要有利于培养学生的创新精神和阅读实践能力。 （2）趣味性
