概要写作步步高(1—5)

1.阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Parents usually teach their children how to cross the street safely—by looking both ways for cars. But do they also teach them to put away their cellphones? According to statistics from years of studies, they almost never say so.In view of this, the city of Honolulu,Hawaii wants everyone to learn that lesson.

Texting while crossing the street will soon be banned in the city.Beginning on October 24,you can be fined from$15 to$99 if you step into a Honolulu street while looking at your phone.Honolulu is the first major U.S.city to ban what is called“distracted walking”.It recently passed a law, which says no pedestrian shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device.

The law includes all electronic devices with screens, from cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, digital cameras to laptop computers. However, the law does permit an exception:pedestrians may use such devices in the street to call emergency services and rescue workers, such as firefighters and police officers.

Pedestrian deaths have been increasing as the use of cellphones rises in the past few years. The Governors Highway Safety Association,or GHSA,says pedestrian deaths in the United States increased 25 percent between 2010 and 2015.That trend continued in 2016 with the number of pedestrian deaths rising to almost 6,000,11% higher than in 2015.

Other U.S.cities may follow Honolulu. The state of Washington was the first to outlaw distracted driving back in 2007.Now,46 other states as well as Washington D.C.,Puerto Rico,Guam and the U.S.Virgin Islands, have laws against texting while driving.

2.阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

It's a really good idea to visit colleges before you apply because their websites can all start to look and sound the same. Nothing will give you the sense of what it will actually be like to live on a college campus (校园) like visiting and seeing for yourself the dorms, classrooms and athletic equipment and, of course, the students. It seems a little crazy once senior year hits to find the time to visit college campuses, and it can also be pricey if the schools you are applying to happen to be more than a car ride away. But keep in mind that you are making a decision about the next four years of your life, and do all the research you can to make sure you are making the right one.

There's no excuse not to visit the schools in your local area. In fact, a lot of college applications even ask if you have visited the campus, and obviously, if you live across the country that won't be as much of a possibility, but if you live nearby, go check it out!

If campus visits aren't going to happen before you apply, at the very least you should find some time between applying and getting your acceptance letters to visit the schools you'd like to attend. It can save you a lot of heartache, if you rule out now the things that you don't like about certain campuses, things that you wouldn't know unless you actually visit.

Now, if time and money are making it impossible, then check out the online college fairs at CollegeWeekLive. It's a chance to chat online with admissions officers, students, and college counselors(顾问), and it won't cost you a penny! You can register for its online college fair at collegeweeklive. com. While visiting an online college fair can't take the place of an actual campus visit, it can be a very useful tool that along with all your other research will help you make an informed decision about which colleges or universities you'd like to attend.

The Real Kindness and Generosity

This was an unforgettable and wonderful experience. It happened about three years ago and it has had a strong effect on me. I would like to show respect here for the man I do not know personally but whose actions gave a new meaning to the words —kind and generous.

I was walking down a busy street on a cold, windy day in early winter.

A homeless man, probably about 60 and without wearing any shoes, was begging for change on a street corner.

A BMW car pulled up on the other side of the street and an executive (主管) who was perfectly dressed stepped out of the car. He was probably about 60 years old. He was wearing a blue business suit with a deep red silk tie. He walked directly across the street and over to the homeless man. Without saying anything, he first gave him a lot of money and then he sat down and took off his leather gloves, beautiful black leather shoes and black dress socks. Then he handed them to the homeless man. The homeless man took them and stared at him with an open mouth.

As he drove off, I couldn't help thinking that it was probably the first time he had pressed the pedal (踏板) of that top-brand BMW car with a bare foot! I stood there and the looks of astonishment appeared on my face and the homeless man's.

Two men of about the same age but very different lives had met and the one who was successful in materials had offered more than his shoes. He had left this BMW car and stepped down from his high position. He lifted up the other man when he offered respect, kindness and real generosity.

Wearing different colors

You might think that whether you choose a blue shirt or a yellow one to wear to work or college makes no difference to your day and those around you. However, an increasing number of experts argue that the colors we choose affect our mood, our career prospects(前景)and even our health.

The power of color has been used for centuries and we should be making the most of it in our lives. Color affects us to a greater degree than most of us realize. It is used increasingly by psychologists and therapists for influencing mood and state of mind, and for various types of treatments when we are ill. Some people even believe that the blind can benefit from the “vibration”(震动)that color gives off.

Companies use color to great effect to encourage us to buy their products. For example, purple is seen as creative and mixes well with red, to show that a company has ideas and the power to make them happen. Orange and blue are also recommended colors for companies to use, because orange is the color of communication and blue suggests safety and security. So this could be a particularly good combination. Companies have found certain colors “speak” to specific age groups. They often use red to attract younger people to their products, for example, as it is vibrant and more youthful than colors like gold and navy, which older customers seem to prefer.

Wearing different colors can affect how you feel and how others react to you, so it is important to consider this when deciding what to wear in the morning. If you want people to take you seriously, then wearing navy blue or black is good. Blue would also be helpful for an interview or oral examination because it relaxes you and makes you feel calm. Red gets you noticed by everyone and makes you, the wearer, feel energetic, but be careful, as it can raise your pulse rate and not everyone wants this effect.

So think carefully before you leave the house. The colors you choose are a wonderful tool. Are you making the right impression on yourself

and on others?

Advertising plays a major role in the competitive business world. Many industries take advantage of the power of advertising to attract or to win customers away from their competitors. The influence of advertising is so huge that it causes many people to buy things that they don't want at the start.

Advertising encourages people to buy things they don't want through misleading ideas. Advertising is proven to be a successful tool to highlight the features of their product even though some of the product is regarded as undesirable such as cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. For example, Dunhill, a cigarette company which sponsors many football teams, seems to promoting cigarette to the public. Without the sponsorship, the company will be less known to the public, resulting in fewer sales of cigarettes.

Besides that, advertising has a large influence on the decisions made by people in their everyday life. Many businesses use advertising as a form of promotion to raise awareness about their product in the market. For example, in the fast food industry, the introduction of a new flavor (风味) of burger (汉堡) needs advertising to reach the public while the other burgers require advertising to increase sales. Children, especially, are easily influenced by advertisements and will have the desire to dine at fast food restaurants after that. Although fast food is bad for health, it has successfully become popular to the pubic through advertising.

However, advertising plays a part in helping customers to compare a product in terms of price, quality, reliability and so on. Without advertising, it will be very difficult for customers to judge the worthiness of a product. For example, advertisements initiated (发起)by various companies have given the customers the opportunity to choose wisely when they are buying items. Without the power of advertising, customers will be stuck to a brand which may not offer the best choice. ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

概要写作步步高(6—10)

6.阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

For hundreds of years, education has been closely connected to writing. Professors had been writing down their lectures, and students had been keeping notes after their teachers. Goose feathers and parchment (羊皮纸) changed to ballpoint pens and paper, but the essence has remained the same: knowledge passed down from one person to another must be thoroughly recorded.

With the emergence and development of mobile technologies such as laptops and smartphones, using conventional methods is gradually becoming obsolete (废弃的). Students tend to use laptops in class more often than pens and paper. And although there are still many educational institutions that ban using computers in class, there are many arguments in favor of doing so.

On the one hand, let us face the reality: people do not write as much today as they used to several years ago. This is especially true in the case of the youth: teenagers and young adults tend to feel more confident and comfortable typing on their devices rather than with handwriting. Keeping records

after a teacher in class requires a student to write very fast, which often decreases the readability of the notes taken. Sometimes it can be quite difficult for a student to understand what he or she hurriedly wrote down in class. At the same time, typing on a laptop helps write the important information down in a comprehensible and accurate way. Also, handwriting always involves grammatical mistakes, typos, blot (墨水迹), and so on. Obviously, students experience little-to-none of such problems while using computers.

On the other hand, technology is something youth nowadays have got so accustomed to that without it, they operate less efficiently. Students are native to such devices as smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other gadgets, and naturally incorporate them in whatever they do, be it leisure time or studying. Not allowing students to use tablets in class means depriving (剥夺) them of something that is almost a part of them and of their daily lives. If young people know how to use technology to their advantage and increase their studying effectiveness with its help, why forbid them from doing it?

Look inside any family home in the evening, and you might see a typical enough scene: Mom and Dad, each on their own laptop or tablet, streaming movies, catching up on work or maybe answering emails on their smartphones. Meanwhile, one child is chatting online with one school friend while texting another. The other is playing a video game with a friend on the other side of the city at the same time. Each member of the family is totally absorbed in his or her own piece of technology.

According to some experts, the effect of technology on human relationships is worrying as technology becomes a substitute for face-to-face human relationships. It appears to be the case that many people would much rather spend time with their electronic gadgets (电子产品) than with one another. Young people say it is difficult to get their parents' attention and they have to compete with smartphones, tablets and other technology.

However, a report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project offers a more helpful and encouraging view, suggesting that far from replacing human contact, technology can actually better family relationships. Just over half of the 2,253 people surveyed agreed that technology had enabled them to increase their contact with distant family members and 47 percent said it had improved the communication with the people they lived with. Moreover, even the closest members of families need time away from each other at some point to seek their own interests. Family members who might otherwise have sat in separate rooms can now be in the same one while still occupying a different mental space.

Look back at our typical family scene above. Is it any different from four people reading their own books? Or is it driving families apart? Where technology will lead us remains to be seen. Yet there is no need to worry. As a matter of fact, how it affects our family relationships depends on our attitude toward technology.

Nowadays, more and more college students have no

problem walking into a classroom and opening their laptops. Others may spend an entire study period with a smartphone in hand. Some people argue that the increasing use of technology can have many helpful effects on society. But a recent research suggests that using technology during class time may harm college students’ ability to remember and process the subject material.

Arnold Glass, a professor in Rutgers University in New Jersey, and a student researcher investigated the issue of divided student attention. The study involved 118 Rutgers students who were taking the same level college class. The students were permitted to use any electronic device during half of their daily class periods. During the other half, no one was allowed to use any technology.

The researchers found that the average daily quiz results showed no evidence of harmful effects from the use of technology. However, the average results of the larger tests and final exam showed that all the students performed poorly when they were permitted to use technology in the classroom. Glass argues that it shows the use of electronic devices in the classroom prevents students from processing information. When the students hear what the professor is saying, they might be buying things online or reading unrelated emails at the same time. And that, Glass says, makes it harder for the information to enter their long term memory. Even though the students know what the professor said at that time, they no longer remember it a week later because they missed the opportunity.

However, Lauren Margulieux, an assistant professor at Georgia State University in Atlanta argues that there are times when classroom use of technology is unavoidable. So, he says, educators need to consider that something other than technology is distracting students.

In fact, a special software program has been created. Students can use the program, which engages students more with the class material on their personal devices during a given class. It can also be used to observe student activity and prevent them from opening unrelated pages and programs.

Among all the fast growing science and technology, the research of human genes,or biological engineering as people call it,is drawing more and more attention now.Discussions about it are increasingly heated around the world.

The greatest thing that gene technology can do is to cure serious diseases that doctors at present can almost do nothing with, such as cancer and heart disease.Every year, millions of people are murdered by these two killers. And to date, doctors have not found an effective way to cure them. But if the gene technology is applied, not only these two diseases can be cured completely, bringing happiness and more living days to the patients.but also the great amount of money people spend on curing their diseases can be saved. Therefore,it benefits the economy as well.In addition, human life span(寿命)can be prolonged.

Some families have genetic diseases. This means their children will for sure have the family disease, which is a great trouble for these families.Gene technology can help people give birth to more healthy and clever children. In the past, doctors could do nothing about genetic diseases. But gene technology

can solve this problem perfectly.Scientists just need to find the wrong gene and correct it,and a healthy child will be born.

Some people are worrying that the gene research can be used to create human beings in large quantities. In the past few years, scientists have succeeded in cloning animals such as mice, sheep, and dogs. Therefore, these people predict that human babies would soon be cloned and that it would be beyond control, leading to some disastrous consequences. But many believe that cloned babies will not come out in large quantities, for most couples in the world can have babies in a very normal way and they also believe the governments will control gene technology and make laws to make sure the gene technology will help better our lives instead of harming us.

Your Robot Teacher of the Future

Will your job be done by a robot in the future?Bank of England economists predict that almost half of all UK jobs are under threat of automation. Those most at risk involve repetitive manual labour, such as factory positions. But could even the venerable profession of teaching soon have to compete against powerful electronic educators?

At first glance, teaching might seem to be unaffected to replacement by robots.Teachers use a range of soft skills that machines find hard to replicate. They judge pupils’ needs and adapt feedback accordingly. They adapt materials to make them more attractive and effective. And they provide pastoral care:looking out for students who lag behind or disrupt the class.

Nonetheless, some believe the future of education will be technological. In an interview with Business Insider magazine, futurist Thomas Frey predicts that “by 2030 the largest company on the Internet is going to be an education-based company that we haven’t heard of yet.”

He thinks that “bots”—online robot teachers—will make education so efficient that students will be able to compress an entire undergraduate degree into six months of learning.A bot learns what your “interests” and “reference points” are,and it “figures out” how to teach you in a faster and faster way over time, according to Frey.

Whether or not such incredible speeds will be reached, over the last decade there has been a huge increase in online learning https://www.doczj.com/doc/eb5004077.html,panies such as Udemy and Khan Academy produce courses that allow millions to learn at home for free at their own pace. But there are limitations.Without the face-to-face stimulation of a classroom environment, the overwhelming majority of students fail to complete online courses. How to sustain motivation to learn is one more skill that online teachers will need to master.

Indeed,Frey admits there is some way to go:“Nobody has quite cracked the code for the future of education.”What do teachers themselves think about this?Professor Donald Clark from Derby University in the UK thinks that we should welcome change, even though people will lose their jobs.

“Artificial intelligence will destroy jobs—so why not use it for a social good such as learning?”he asked.

Most students experience a lot of stress while preparing for exams, as both their parents and teachers expect them to get high scores. Students who feel anxious are likely to experience problems like difficulty in concentrating while studying, confusion, feeling stressed while looking at difficult questions, feeling blank, sweating, sleepless, etc. Under such circumstances they end up scoring less than they could have. Therefore, it’s extremely important for students to learn about how to overcome fear, so that they can take their examination confidently, finally earning good grades .Here are a few tips on ways to overcome exam fear.

There are many students who take studies lightly, leaving everything to be studied at the last minute. As a result, when exams are around the corner, they feel scared, as they don’t know where to start, and what to study. So the easiest way of overcoming this problem is to start studying much before the exam. Another common mistake that many students make is that they don’t make an effort to understand the subject. When they have memorized things without understanding them, the chances of forgetting are more. Therefore, it is vital to understand the concept before memorizing it. In this way, you will never forget any important point. Besides, that the exams are coming does not mean that you have to sit with your books for the entire day, and students should take regular breaks to relax and refresh their mind. However, they should avoid watching too much TV and addicting themselves to the Internet, in which way, they are more likely to waste time.

A part from the tips above, here are some points that will help students cope with exam-related anxiety. For example, before the exam, avoid studying anything new or having conversations with your classmates about what they have studied and how much they have studied, both of which will make you more nervous. During the exam, if

you get blank after seeing difficult questions, ignore them for the time being, and deal with those you find easier. Once you have completed them, go back to the difficult ones.

Over the past few years, there has been a big increase in the number of people sharing information online. Now in this article, we will learn about some positive factors regarding people's sharing information.

We often share information with our friends in the office or at home to educate, entertain, or pleasantly surprise them. In this way, we can connect with others. This is also true while sharing information online. If you look at the WeChat's friend circle, you will realize that most of your friends' updated contents are usually funny jokes, famous quotes, inspirational images, entertaining videos, etc. 94% of those who responded to a survey by The New York Times said they put a lot of thought into how the content they are sharing will be beneficial to others.

A lot of people share information online to express their true self to the outside world. Some people, especially those who are shy and not comfortable in talking about their areas of interst in the presence of others, find it extremely convenient to share that information online with like-minded individuals.

78% of the respondents in the study of The New York Times said they shared information online because it can help them to develop better relationships. Today, a lot of people do not have the time to meet each other in person, and the Internet has become a great substitute (替代品).

A lot of people now "meet" each other online, rather than in conventional places like restaurants and pubs.

Lastly, when we share our thoughts online, we are actively engaging with the vast community of people who are part of the World Wide Web. Sharing information will make a difference to the viewpoint of others, or add to their understanding of the world.

Artificial Intelligence(AI) teachers can provide customized teaching for students to meet their unique requirements through analyzing data and deep learning. In the future, they may replace human teachers for basic teaching tasks.Since some students may find it hard to follow teachers in class,AI can meet their individual needs, give them confidence and put new power into traditional teaching patterns. An educational system providing customized teaching centered on students represents the future trend of AI education.

China's AI education has developed rapidly in recent years with the rise of several thousand relevant companies.Currently,AI teachers are able to help students learn pronunciation, analyze their condition, guide them to learn independently, and even grade writing assignments. Some foreign AI educational systems have been introduced into several domestic schools and have worked well on trial.

However, the promotion of AI education is still facing several difficulties in practice such as low technological levels, inadequacy of data and lack of funds.AI education still depends largely on human teachers' work. Most importantly,it conflicts with current educational patterns because the courses developed by foreign countries are not suitable for Chinese exam-oriented education,Teachers may also find it hard to change their original roles in classrooms since easing control on classes may make them seem irresponsible. These problems need to be handled before the mass promotion of AI education.

With AI teachers, the original teacher-centered classes will be transformed into student-centered ones where teachers only organize the class and provide guidance.Since teachers are supposed to not only equip students with knowledge but also shape their values and help them develop creative abilities,AI teachers will not replace human teachers but will only pose higher requirements of teaching.A

However, there is no thing fixed about attitudes to dirt. In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block o ut disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up t he skin and let ills in. A particular danger was though to lie in public baths. By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 15 46. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a frie ndly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman h ad taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman sho uld not go out. Though the belief in the merit (好处) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been re garded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning awa y dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of pre venting disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter th an white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too f ar? Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of diseas e.
