2015 saw things heat up and get out of hand, and not just in politics.

A record warm December raised average temperatures enough to make 2015 the second hottest year on record in the contiguous United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Climate Monitoring Annual Report, which was released Thursday.

The United Nations had previously reported that 2015 was shaping up to be the warmest year on record for the whole planet.

Last year was also the third wettest on record in the U.S. and saw ten weather- or climate-related disasters that each caused at least $1 billion in damage in the U.S. and killed a total of 155 people. These include a drought, two floods, five severe storms, a wildfire, and a winter storm.

The average U.S. temperature was 54.4°F, 2.4°F above the 20th century average, and second only to 2012's record warmth. This was also the 19th consecutive year with average temperatures above the average for the century.

Every state reported above-average annual temperatures. The warming was particularly pronounced across most of the eastern half of the country in December, when many places saw temperatures 30 degrees above normal and many records were set.

This mirrored changes seen in the Arctic that month, when temperatures spiked to 50 degrees above normal. Part of this warming was driven by a strong El Ni?o, or periodic warming in the Pacific Ocean, but some of it can also be attributed to global warming, says meteorologist Eric Holthaus, who was not involved with the federal report.

The analysis comes less than a month after the U.S. and 194 other countries signed an agreement in Paris to more aggressively counter the effects of climate change.

―Even if all the initial targets in Paris are met, we’ll only be part of the way there when it comes to reducing carbon from the atmosphere,‖ said President Barack Obama at the time. Still, the agreeme nt represented ―a turning point‖ by setting up ―the architecture" for doing so, he said.

NOAA's climate monitoring center doesn't issue predictions for future weather, but the agency's Climate Prediction Center does. That team's forecast for the next three months calls for warmer-than-average temperatures in much of the country, although parts of Texas and the Southeast may be a little cooler than usual.

As Lancaster University Professor Gail Whiteman told the Weather Channel, "climate change means extreme

weather is the new normal."

41. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?

A. 2012 is the warmest year in the US on record.

B. Last year, ten terrible climate-related disasters happened around the world, causing severe damage.

C. If the initial targets in the Paris agreement are achieved, the carbon in the atmosphere will surely be reduced.

D. NOAA’s climate monitoring center has issued predictions for future weather.

42. What does the underlined word ―counter‖ mean?

A. calculate

B. expect

C. improve

D. prevent

43. Based on what Eric said, what may not have caused the rising temperature?

A. A strong El Nino

B. Periodic warming in the Pacific Ocean

C. Global warming

D. The changes in the Arctic

44. What can we learn from the passage?

A. The temperatures in 2015 reached what was forecast by the United Nations.

B. The average temperature of the 21century has generally been above the 20 century’s in the US.

C. President Barack Obama takes a negative attitude towards Paris agreement.

D. All the eastern half of America pronounced the warming climate.

45. What might be the best title of the passage?

A. Global Warming Is Normal.

B. Climate Change Leads to Extreme Weather.

C. 2015 Saw a New Temperature Record.

D. 2015 Was a Warm, Wild Year. What’s Next?

With fuel costs rising and airlines finding more fees to impose on travelers every day, airfare isn’t getting any cheaper. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to find the most affordable fares and also avoid paying as many extra charges as possible when you plan ahead.

Getting the best fare

Airlines put out their fare sales on Tuesday morning, making this day the best day to book a flight for less.

Fly during the least popular times. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are the slowest days to fly, which means cheaper deals than the rest of the week. You can also find reduced rates on early morning flights, since many people don’t like to get up before the sun to get to the airport. Earlier boarding times can also sharply cut down your chances of coming across an overbooked flight or delayed because of other delayed flights or mechanical issues.

Choose your seat later. Some airlines charge you to pick your seat when you book online, adding even more to the bottom line of your ticket cost. If you show up early on your travel day, you can still get suitable seats. Some of the best seats get held back until flight day, unless others are willing to pay extra for them ahead of time, so you still have the chance at one of those.

Fly on holidays. You already know that summer is the most expensive time to fly, and even though most other times are more affordable, the days surrounding holidays can be crazy. Save big if you’re willing to travel on major holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Don’t wait until the last-minute to book. Many travelers don’t know that there’s a sweet spot for booking and getting the best price on your tickets. Book too early or too late and you could end up paying more than you need to. The best time to book is between three months and six weeks from when you want to travel.

Avoiding extra fees

Airlines will charge for just about anything these days. Some have even fooled with charging customers for using the restroom. All thos e extra fees can certainly add up, but there’s no reason to pay them if you don’t have to. Here are some tips to keep money in your wallet once you get to the airport.

Avoid the upgrade it's not necessary. Sometimes upgrades are free, but mostly you will be charged for seeking a last-minute bump to first class, and the cost can be high.

Fly carry-on only. Baggage fees vary wildly, but almost all airlines charge them and charge big. Why pay for your clothes to fly with you? If everyone in your travel party checks a bag, your bill can be huge before you ever even get to your destination.

It’s easy to reduce the amount of stuff you pack. Make sure all your clothing suitable, so you can take less and still make more outfit(全套服装) combinations, take only two pair of shoes, plan to do a bit of laundry on your trip and bring only travel-sized toiletries(化妆品).

Pack your own snacks. Unless you’re flying internationally, it’s rare your flight comes with a free meal. Snacks on the plane are not cheap and almost never he althy. Don’t rely on what’s on the small menu and instead put some of your own snacks – granola bars, homemade muffins, fruit and trail mix all make fantastic travel foods – into your bag and eat a lot better, and cheaper, than other passengers.

46.According to the passage, the underlined words ―held back‖ has the same meaning as in ―______‖.

A. The police were unable to hold back the crowd.

C. Do you think that mixed-ability classes hold back the better students?

D. She just managed to hold back her anger.

47. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A. When you book online you can select your seat for free.

B. Booking the flight earlier can help you avoid spending too much money.

C. Airlines often update fare sales on Tuesday morning.

D. Taking an early morning flight before Thanksgiving can offer you more convenience.

48. You need to pay extra fees for your flight, if you ______.

A. decide to upgrade to the first class ahead of time.

B. carry much luggage by yourself.

C. enjoy a meal offered by the international flight to China.

D. take some food to eat on the plane.

49. What is the main purpose of the passage?

A. To explain the reasons why the airline charge more these days.

B. To show the latest information about discounts on flight fare.

C. To teach us the right steps about booking flight

D. To introduce the ways of saving money in your flying.

The relationship between exercise and cancer has long both interested and puzzled scientists.

Now, a new study in mice may offer some clues into the

exercise-cancer paradox. Scientists began by gathering a group of adult lab mice. These animals generally like to run.

The scientists then implanted melanoma (黑素瘤)skin cancer cells into the mice before providing half of them with running wheels in their cages while the other animals remained sedentary. After four weeks, far fewer of the runners had developed full-blown melanoma than the sedentary mice and those that had been diagnosed with the disease showed less harm. They also were less likely t o have metastases(转移), even if scientists injected some of the cancer cells into their lungs.

In effect, running seemed to have at least partially protected the mice against the cancer.

Scientists found much higher levels of the hormone adrenaline (肾上腺素)in the blood of the exercising animals, especially right after they had been working out on the wheels but also at other times of the day.

They also found higher levels of interleukin-6 in the blood of the runners. This is a substance that is released by working muscles and is believed to both increase and decrease inflammation(发炎) in the body, depending on where and how it goes to work.

Perhaps most important, they found much higher numbers in the bloodstreams of runners than in the sedentary mice of a type of immune cell named natural killer cells that are known to be powerful cancer fighters.

Somehow, the scientists speculated, these elements in the runners —their elevated adrenaline, IL-6, and natural killer immune cells and their lower cancer risk — must be linked to each other, but it wasn’t clear how.

But in some of these follow-up experiments, they injected the runners with a substance that blocked the production of adrenaline and gave sedentary animals large doses of added adrenaline.

Then they again looked at the animals’ blood and other cells.

What they now saw was that when running mice could not produce adrenaline, they developed cancer at the same rate as the sedentary animals, while the sedentary animals that had been injected with extra adrenaline fought off their tumors better than other sitting mice.

With these results, ―we show that voluntary wheel running in mice can reduce the growth of tumors, and we have identified an exercise-dependent mobilization of natural killer cells as the underlying (根本的)cause of this protection,‖ said Pernille Hojman, a researcher at the University of Copenhagen who oversaw the new study.

But mice, obviously, are not people, and it is impossible to know from this study whether a similar process occurs in humans, although exercise, particularly moderately intense exercise such as jogging, has been shown to increase adrenaline and the production of natural killer immune cells in people, Dr. Hojman said.

50. Which of the sentences is TRUE?

A. Scientists found higher levels of adrenaline in the blood of exercising mice only after they had been working out on the wheels.

B. Working muscles in the mice can release a type of immune cells named natural killer cells.

C. Interluekin-6 can both increase and decrease inflammation based on different situations.

My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment. She ran a small shop at a flea market. She collected little weeds and such to sell… anything for the money we needed. One day during

elementary school, my mom came to my school. I was so embarrassed. I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school… ―Your mom only has one eye?!‖ and they taunted me.

I wished that my mom would just disappear from this world so I said, ―Mom, why don’t you have the othe r eye?! You’re only going to make me a laughingstock. Why don’t you just die?‖ My mom did not respond. I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, it felt good to think that I had said what I’d wanted to say all this time. Maybe it was because my mo m hadn’t punished me, but I didn’t think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.

That night… I woke up, and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. My mom was crying there, so quietly, as if she was afraid that she might wake me. I took a look at her, and then turned away. Because of the thing I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my mother who was crying out of her one eye. So I told myself that I would grow up and become successful, because I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty.

Then I studied really hard. I left my mother and came to Seoul and studied, and got accepted in the Seoul University. Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I’m living happily as a successful man. I like it here because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom.

This happiness was getting bigger and bigger, when someone unexpected came to see me ―What?! Who’s this?!‖ It was my mother… Still with her one eye. It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom’s eye.

―Who are you? I don’t know you!!‖ I pretended not to know her, and screamed at her ―How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter! Get out of here n ow!!‖ And to this, my mother quietly answered, ―oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,‖ and she disappeared. Thank goodness… she doesn’t recognize me. I was quite relieved. I told myself that I wasn’t going to care, or think about this for the rest of my life.

Then a wave of relief came upon me… one day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. I lied to my wife saying that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, that I used to call a house…just out of curiosity there, I found my mother fallen on the cold ground. But I did not shed a single tear. She had a piece of paper in her hand…. it was a letter to me.

She wrote:

My son, I think my life has been long enough now. And… I won’t visit Seoul anymore… but would it be too much to ask if I wanted you to come visit me once in a while? I miss you so much. And I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. B ut I decided not to go to the school…. For you… I’m sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you. You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye… so I gave you mine… I was so proud of my son that was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. I was never upset at you for anything you did. The couple times that you were angry with me. I thought to myself, ‘it’s because he loves me.’ I miss the times when you were still young around me. I miss you so much. I love you. You mean the world to me.

My World Shattered. I hated the person who only lived for me . I cried for My Mother. I didn’t know of any way that will make up for my worst deeds…

第二节:(改编自网上文章)以下文章中有5个段落需要添加首句(第61-65题)。请从下列选项(A,B,C,D,E,F)中选出适合各段落的首句。选项中有一项是多余选项。

A.The great threat to our water is bacteria pollution.

B.The harmful effects of water pollution are quite obvious.

C.Pollution control is a continuing problem for the government.

D.Another great source of water pollution is poisonous chemicals.

E.Hong Kong once prided herself on being the ―Fragrant Harbor‖.

F.Residents depend on the government to take measures to solve questions.

The water pollution in Hong Kong

Wate r, which covers about 74 percent of the earth’s surface, is man’s most precious resource. Without it we cannot live. Clean water keeps us alive; polluted water means disease and death. Keeping our water pure is by no means an easy task but it is something that must be done.

61.______However, these days, it is not certain if Hong Kong’s harbor could still be called ―fragrant‖. For, like many other places, Hong Kong has not been spared water pollution. A visit to Tolo and Victoria Harbor, or any of the beaches in Hong Kong is enough to make one aware of the ugly truth that Hong Kong water is indeed polluted.

62.______Such polluted water is a serious threat not only to marine animals, particularly fish, but to humans as well. Agricultural workers also worsen the already serious problem by releasing agricultural and animal waste into the sea.

63.______Our bodies need at least eight glasses of water a day. If this water is polluted, it may give us typhoid fever(伤寒), or even cancer. Is it any wonder that th e city’s incidence of typhoid fever has been increased considerably in recent years?

64.______These substances, which are found in industrial waste and agricultural pesticides, make up unseen dangers that enter biological food chains. In an article in the South China Morning Post, DR John Hodgkiss, a senior lecturer at Hong Kong University, states that ―animal waste generates some 55 percent of the pollution load in streams, while waste water contributes 10 percent, industrial organic waste about 20 percent and agricultural waste about 15 percent of the load.‖

65.______ It is believed that the most effective form of control is legislation(立法). Most importantly, the present laws on pollution should be given more force. On the other hand, no amount of legislation can effectively

control pollution unless those concerned are properly educated about the danger posed by pollution.

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷-教师用卷

2018年浙江省杭州高中高考英语最后一卷 副标题 一、阅读理解(本大题共10小题,共25.0分) A One day your pocket might power your smart phone.Soon you may never have to worry about your smart phone running out of juice.Your clothing will simply power it back up for you. That's the word from scientists at China's Chongqing and Jinan Universities in a study just published in the journal ACS Nano. Researchers have been hard at work during the last few years trying to create wearable energy,or clothes that can charge things. The assumption is simple.People today rely heavily upon devices such as smart phones and tablets. And they're looking for ways to recharge these devices on the go.So if you could design clothing fabric that could make use of solar power -one of the most widely available and inexhaustible renewable energy sources - you'd be able to charge your various devices with ease. Scientists have had some past success creating energy-harvesting fibers. But there was always one problem when they tried to fashion these threads into self-powered smart clothes:The fibers they designed got damaged during the clothing manufacturing process, namely during the weaving and cutting. The Chongqing and Jinan University scientists say they've solved this problem because the energy-collecting and energy-storing threads they created are highly flexible - each individual thread is easily bendable, and not simply the fabric as a whole. The team's sample textile can be fully charged to 1.2 volts in 17 seconds by exposure to sunlight - enough voltage that your future smart T or smart dress might be able to power small electronics. It's durable, too;their research showed there was no descent in the fabric after 60 days. But don't worry that this means the fabric is similar to rough cloth. The scientists note their textile can be fashioned into numerous different patterns, and tailored into any designed shape, without affecting performance. 1.What does the underlined phrase "running out of juice" in paragraph 1mean?______ A. Being lacking in energy. B. Wanting to have some juice. C. Being picked out of a drink. D. Having some water running out. 2.Why could smart dress charge a phone?______ A. A solar cell is attached to the dress. B. The fabric of the textile contains current. C. The fabric of the textile is easily bendable. D. The fabric of the textile could collect and store the solar energy. 3.What is the scientists' attitude towards the scientific technology?______ A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic. C. Neutral. D. Doubtful.

Seventy-three-year-old George McNeilon selected his food in Value Mart very carefully. After leaving the cashier, he estimated (估计) that he had saved 80 cents and thought that he had got good value for his money again. At the exit, the chilly wind reminded him of his gloves. “Now where are they?” He searched here and there, but nowhere could he find them. He was sure he was wearing them when he entered the store. The worried man made a second search in all his pockets, again including the grocery bag. He was sure they must have been dropped somewhere inside the store. George bought the gloves at a 25% discount, for just $30, ten years ago. They were genuine lambskin (小羊皮), soft, warm and durable. Until then, he had worn cheaper man-made material that lasted no more than three years. His impulsive decision to buy the expensive gloves turned out to be a good one, which even promoted his social status on the bus, as passengers stared at him enviously for six months out of the year. He enjoyed being envied. Bad luck, George thought, to lose his expensive gloves on New Year’s Eve. He reentered the store and followed the same route he had walked before. But several minutes of anxious search turned out to be in vain. “Society has changed. People have changed …” he murmured to himself. “Years ago, if people picked up something lost, they would give it back.” Back home, George was at a loss. In deep winter, he could not do anything without a pair of gloves. If he bought cheap ones, he would have to replace them very soon. If he bought new leather ones, they would cost forty dollars. After the holiday, poor George decided to buy another pair of leather gloves. Before boarding the subway, he stepped into Value Mart again to see if by any chance his gloves had been returned to the lost and found office. “What color are they?” the woman in the office asked. “Black,” he answered. She looked into her drawer and drew out a pair of men’s leather gloves. “Are they?” “Yes! Those are mine!” 1.Which of the following is the most probable reason for George’s shopping? A. To kill time in Value Mart as usual.
