BBC英语听力：BBC0327 The United Nations has said it'll join a government-led humanitarian mission in Syria this weekend. The UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos said technical staff would accompany the Syrian authorities to observe conditions. She said the visit would include cities which had seen thousands of casualties in anti-government protests. Ms Amos said the UN officials would observe condition first-hand and gather information on the overall humanitarian situation, but she stressed the urgency of unhindered access to provide emergency care and basic supplies. The White House said no end to the conflict in Afghanistan was likely without a political resolution. The Taliban had been talking to the Americans about possibly setting up a political office in Qatar and exchanging a kidnapped American soldier for five Taliban fighters. American sources said the Taliban objected to the idea of involving the Afghan government in the negotiations. Jeff Aston is one of them and at 60 years old, he finished in just over three and a half hours.A lot of the non-competitive runners take part in the marathon to raise money for charity. Jeff estimates he has raised about £25,000 (350,000 RMB) over the 28 years he has been running.Jane Tomlinson is a well-known name in the UK. She raised millions for charity doing long cycle rides, marathons and triathlons whilst battling terminal cancer, a battle she sadly lost last year. As a tribute to Jane, her husband and daughter took part in the marathon. They managed to raise £20,000 (280,000 RMB) for a charity set up in Jane's name.Another astonishing feat was blind runner Dave Heeley completing the marathon.
