第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

Dance is one of the most wonderful forms of human communication. In many cultures, dance has both historic and cultural significance, which is communicated through learned gestures and expressions. Here are a bit more details about three of the world’s most beau tiful dances.

Kathakali

Kathakali is a storytelling dance, during which performers use a variety of gestures, and eyes and facial expressions to communicate meanings. Costumes, hair styles, makeup and face paint, and jewelry also all hold specific meanings in the performance of kathakali. There are nine facial expressions used to express emotions ranging from sadness and anger to curiosity. Through their expressions, it should be completely clear to the viewer

what the performer is intending to convey.

Tango

The dance has its roots in an African slave dance called candombe, which is also a type of music. One key factor of a candombe performance is a partnered dance, which has over time developed into the modern tango. If you can keep your eyes on one part of the tango, just focus on the dancers’ legs and feet. The tango is typically performed low to the ground, with both performers’ step-work often taking place at the same time. It’s complex and communicative.

Flamenco

One of the most interesting facts about the flamenco is that it began as a song. Over time, flamenco developed to include its now-famous passionate accompanying dance. One of the key factors of flamenco is palmas. It may look like simple, rhythmic clapping, but palmas are performed at different speeds, and strengths, and it is essential that the flamenco dancer understands how to make use of his or her hands as part of the performance.

21. What is special about kathakali?

A. It is intended to convey a romantic story.

B. It involves many expressions to attract viewers.

C. It’s a dance to tell a story and express many feelings.

D. It is a dance where people can learn how to exchange feelings.

22. What should you pay attention to in a tango?

A. The dancers’ arms and hands.

B. The dancers’ legs a nd feet.

C. The dancers’ facial expressions.

D. The dancers’ eyes and hands.

23. In which dance does dancers’ clapping play an important role?

A. Kathakali.

B. Flamenco.

C. Tango.

D. Candombe.

B

The juries(陪审团)entered.

I stood beside the lawyer and my brother, Jimmy. It reminded me of our childhood—as things often did—when we played the game “Simon Says”, we would react at the same time in harmony when hearing all kinds of orders. “Simon says jump, Simon says touch your toes”—it was almost the same. Almost. When we grew up, my brother had chosen a separate life, leaving me alone. I missed him a lot.

Today, though, we were together, standing in court, waiting for the sentence.

The guilty verdict(判决)was read. I sat down, but my brother cried, “No! I'm innocent. ”And then he turned to me, yelling, “How can you do this to me, James! I finally can make a new life by myself. ”

“Stop this, ”the judge yelled, “the juries have made the decision.”

“But it’s not fair!”my brother replied, “I didn’t kill anyone.”

I wished I could explain, but I said nothing because this is the only way we can be together again.

The judge pulled his glasses from his face. “By law…”

“The law is unjust.” my br other said.

The judge wiped his eyes, and, to my surprise, said calmly. “Yes,” he nodded and set his glasses aside. “I agree with you about that. Law is meant to protect the innocent. And you certainly seem innocent. But how can I tell? You two are clones. Your faces, your fingerprints, even your DNA match exactly. That’s why when one is found guilty, all others…”

The judge sighed, replaced his glasses, and banged the hammer. “I sentence you both to twenty years.”

Together, the court guard led us away. My brother’s head bowed in defeat, but I walked upright, for I would no longer be alone.

24. How did James think of their childhood?

A. He felt sorry for Jimmy.

B. He had been in court before.

C. He felt guilty about his past.

D. He missed the good old days.

25. What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A. Two boys had nothing in common.

B. The two brothers behaved alike.

C. They once quarreled with each other.

D. Neither of them liked living together.

26. What do we know about the law from the text?

A. Cloned brothers should live together.

B. The cloning of human being is forbidden.

C. Cloned brothers are both guilty if one is guilty.

D. Cloned brothers can live apart when growing up.

27. What can be inferred from the text?

A. James was innocent.

B. Jimmy did kill someone.

C. James knew nothing about the law.

D. James took advantage of the law.

C

“Shine in the dark” dolphins may seem like something straight out of a science fiction movie. However, that is precisely what Newport Coastal Adventures’ Captain Ryan Lawler and professional videographer Patrick Coyne witnessed, when they set out to explore the spectacular blue tides that have been lighting up the waters off Southern California’s coast since mid-April. The partner scanned the ocean for hours and was returning to shore when they spotted the “electric” dolphins swimming through the bloom of shining plankton(浮游生物). The videographer, who had seen the phenomenon only once before in a Netflix show, says catching the scenes proved to be a lot har der than he had expected. “For starters, the shining plankton has sweet spots to where it shows up and then fades away, so while on the water, it’s impossible to just find it,” Coyne says. “Also, conditions have to be absolutely perfect for the shining pla nkton to show and for animals to swim through it so we can film it.”

Though witnessing shining sea life is rare, the electrifying blue ocean scenery is a fairly common sight around Southern California between February and September. The phenomenon can be attributed to the presence of millions of plankton, which tend to gather and reproduce in large quantities in the warm coastal waters during this time.

Though a majority of California’s red tides are caused by plankton species that do not produce deadly poi son, some algal blooms ( 藻花) can be dangerous for sea animals, especially when they stay for long periods of time. In 2018, an almost year-long “red tide” along Florida’s Gulf coast caused by the excessive growth of microalgae Karenia Brevis, killed hundreds of fish and other sea animals.

28. What does the underlined phrase “sweet spots” in paragraph 2 mean?

A. A sea plant.

B. A lost world.

C. A perfect moment.

D. A missing camera.

29. What is the main reason for the sea life shining?

A. They absorb the light in the ocean and then reflect it.

B. They are surrounded by millions of shining plankton.

C. They swim through the ocean with electricity in large quantities.

D. They benefit from the warm water to power themselves.

30. What caused the death of some sea animals according to the text?

A. Red tides.

B. Human exploration.

C. Warm water.

D. Algal blooms.

31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

A. Science.

B. Health.

C. Entertainment.

D. Education.

People have different ways of dealing with a common cold. Some take over-the- counter(非处方的) medicines such as aspirin while others try popular home remedies(治疗)like herbal tea or chicken soup. Yet here is the tough truth about the common cold: nothing really cures it.

So why do people sometimes believe that their remedies work? According to James Taylor, professor at the University of Washington, colds usually go away on their own in about a week, improving a little each day after symptoms peak, so it’s easy to believe it’s medicine rather than time that deserves the credit, USA Today reported.

It still seems hard to believe that we can deal with more serious diseases yet are powerless against something so common as a cold. Recently, scientists came closer to figuring out why. To understand it, you first need to know how antiviral(抗病毒的) drugs work. They attack the virus by attaching to and changing the surface structures of the virus. To do that, the drug must fit and lock into the virus like the right piece of a jigsaw(拼图), which means scientists have to identify the virus and build a 3-D model to study its surface before they can design an antiviral drug that is effective enough.

The two cold viruses that scientists had long known about were rhinovirus(鼻病毒) A and B. But they didn’t find out about the existence of a third virus, rhinovirus C, until 2006. All three of them contribute to the common cold, but drugs that work well against rhinovirus A and B have little effect when used against C.

“This explains most of the previous failures of drug trials against rhinovirus,” study leader Professor Ann Palmenberg at University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, told Science Daily.

Now, more than 10 years after the discovery of rhinovirus C, scientists have finally built a highly-detailed 3-D model of the virus, showing that the surface of the virus is, as expected, different from that of other cold viruses.

With the model in hand, hopefully a real cure for a common cold is on its way. Soon, we may no longer have to waste our money on medicines that don’t really work.

32.What does the author think of popular remedies for a common cold?

A.They are quite effective.

B.They are slightly helpful.

C.They actually have no effect.

D.They still need to be improved.

33.How do antiviral drugs work?

A. By breaking up cold viruses directly.

B. By changing the surface structures of the cold viruses.

C. By preventing colds from developing into serious diseases.

D. By absorbing different kinds of cold viruses at the same time.

34. What can we infer from the passage?

A. The surface of cold viruses looks quite similar.

B. Scientists have already found a cure for the common cold.

C. Scientists were not aware of the existence of rhinovirus C until recently.

D. Knowing the structure of cold viruses is the key to developing an effective cure.

35. What is the best title for this passage?

A. Drugs against cold viruses

B. Helpful home remedies

C. No current cure for common cold

D. Research on cold viruses

If you’re a gamer who’s constantly glued to your phone, it could be time to ask for medical help.

On June 18, 2018, the World Health Organization(WHO)officially listed “gaming disorder”as a mental health condition. 36

“Video gaming is like a non-financial kind of gambling(赌博)from a psychological point of view,” Mark Griffiths, a professor from Nottingham Trent University in the UK, told the Associated Press(AP). “Gamblers use mone y as a way of keeping score, while gamers use points.”

37 “People need to understand this doesn’t mean every child who spends hours in their room playing games is an addict, otherwise doctors are going to be flooded with requests for help,” Joan Harve y, a spokeswoman for the British Psychological Society, told AP.

38 For example, a 21-year-old Chinese woman surnamed Wu in Guangdong province went blind in one eye after playing the mobile game King of Glory for a whole day. “On days when I have no work, I usually get up at 6 am, eat breakfast and play until 4 pm,” she told the South China Morning Post. “Then I’ll eat something, have a nap(小睡)and play until 1 am.”

Wu isn’t alone. According to a study published by China Youth Daily, about one in five young Chinese people play online video games for at least four to five hours per day. 39 In April, the Ministry of Education issued a notice asking Chinese schools and parents to prevent students from becoming addicted to the Internet and games.

Other countries have also taken action. 40 Meanwhile, in Japan, some mobile phones have a special mode for children that lets their parents control what games they can download and how long they can play.

A. This means it’s now on the same list as other mental illnesses.

B. Thankfully, measures have been taken to deal with the problem.

C. We often see people around us playing games on their mobile phones.

D. In South Korea, children are forbidden to play video games after midnight.

E. WHO’s main work is t o improve the mental health of individuals and society.

F. But if you lose control over your gaming habits, you’ll face serious problems.

G. However, it doesn’t matter if you play your favorite game now and then.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)

阅读下面短文, 根据其内容写一篇60 词左右的内容概要。

Over the past few years, there has been a big increase in the number of people sharing information online. In this article we will learn about some positive factors for people to share information online.

We often share information with our friends in the office or at home to educate, entertain or pleasantly surprise them. In this way we can connect with others. This is also true while sharing information online. If you look at the Facebook wall posts of your friends, you will realize that most of their updates are usually famous quotes, entertaining videos, inspirational images, funny jokes, etc. 94% of those who responded to a survey by the New York Times said they put a lot of thought into how the content they are sharing will be beneficial to others.

A lot of people share information online to represent their true self to the outside world. Some people, especially those who are shy and not comfortable talking about their areas of interest in the presence of others, find it extremely convenient to share that information online with like-minded individuals.

78% of the respondents in the study of The New York Times said they shared information online because it helps them develop better relationships. Today, a lot of people do not have the time to meet each other in person and the Internet has become a great substitute. A lot of people now “meet” each other online, rather than in conventional places like restaurants and pubs.

Lastly, when we share our thoughts online, we are actively engaging with the vast community of people who are a part of the World Wide Web. Sharing information will make a difference to the viewpoint of others, or add to their understanding about the world.

Dear Peter,

I’m glad to hear that you want to buy some gifts for your mother that represent Chinese culture. And I am writing to give you some advice.

Personally, I think you should buy the following two gifts: Qipao(Cheongsam)and Chinese knot. Qipao, a very beautiful traditional dress for Chinese women, can show the real beauty of a woman. I am sure your mother will like it very much. What’s more, it is also a good choice for you to buy the Chinese knot. It is usually hung in the sitting room or cars, which represents good luck.

Wish you a good vacation. Please give my best wishes to your family.

M: Well, my grandfather owned a farm while I was growing up. I learned how to take care of all the farm animals, including horses. They were my favorites, so I spent most of my time with them when I visited my grandparents each summer.

Today I’d like to talk about the important Chinese art of writing — calligraphy. The Chinese written language began to develop more than 3000 years ago. It eventually developed into five basic script types. (18) All of them are still in use today. The earliest writing looked like detailed pictures.(19) They represented entire ideas and were cut onto rocks and bones. The written language then took the more standardized form of the “seal script”. It is also called Zhuanshu in Chinese. It was usually used in the personal seals of important people. By the late Han Dynasty, a new standard form known as Lishu, or the “official script”, was being used by government clerks. Flexible brushes came into regular use. A nd more artistic effects were possible for the first time. Two “handwritten” writing forms — the “running script” or Xingshu and the “cursive script” or Caoshu, also developed around this time. In the “cursive script”, individual characters were written in short form. And two or more characters could be linked together in a single movement of the brush. As the “official script” became more and more artistic, the “standard script” or Kaishu was born. (20) In this elegant form of writing, the movement of the brush is clear and strong. So, it resulted in the most balanced one of all calligraphy styles. Over the years, calligraphers were free to write in any of the five script styles, depending on the text’s function.

虎门中学高三周测英语试题1 第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) A The small coastal town of Broome, in northwest Australia, is a remote village in the vast countryside. There are no traffic jams and hardly any roads. There is only the massive Australian wild land, where some houses are 500 miles apart and some driveways are 50 miles long. There seem to be only two main sources of entertainment out here: the sunset at the beach and Sun Pictures. Sun Pictures is a very different movie theater:The seats are park benches and deck chairs, but you’re also welcome to sit on the grass. It is the world’s oldest outdoor movie garden. Sun Pictures was built in 1916 on the other side of the globe from Hollywood. All the big films were shipped here and the lonely country was amazed. Broome resident Pearl Hamaguchi has never traveled far from home. But in the Sun Pictures chairs, under the deep blue night sky, she has been almost everywhere. “And we came back excited about Gregory Peck,” she recalled. This is one of the few places left in the world where you can see two sets of stars at the same time-----one set in the sky, the other in the film. Each night, dozens of people from around the world line up at the old wooden stand, with no computer in sight, and buy their tickets to the latest films. Sun Pictures is also a museum, exhibiting projectors(放映机) that date back to the silent films, a portrait gallery of the famous people who never knew about this place---- even though they came here all the time. Every once in a while, I’m told, you might find a non-ticket holder in your seat. That’s why it’s always a good idea to shake out your chair to make sure there are no spiders or scorpions. “We’ve only had a couple of scorpion incidents but no one’s been stung yet,” said Aaron Mestemaker, a tourist visiting from Michigan. Sun Pictures is a holy hall of movie history and a reminder that air conditioning and carpet are no match for grass and fresh air---even when the lizards steal the scene. 21. The first two paragraphs want to show that__________. A. living in Broome is inconvenient B. the life in Broome is boring C. few people like to live in Broome D. Broome is simple but vast 22. Sun Pictures is different from other theaters because _________. A. it is the most historical outdoor theater in the world B. the audience can either sit on chairs or on the grass C. it was built by some constructor from Hollywood D. all the films were imported here from Hollywood 23. Gregory Peck is most probably the name of_________. A. a place B. a film C. a movie star D. a country fellow

石家庄二中2020-2021学年第一学期高三英语学科周测试卷8、23

石家庄二中实验学校2018级英语周考试卷 命题人张建伟做题人殷晓优考试时间8 月23 日 I 阅读理解(共4 小题;每小题2 分,满分8分) Recently, researchers at the University of Toronto figured out a way with a quick video selfie to accurately measure blood pressure with your smartphone’s camera by developing a technology known as transdermal optical imaging (TOI)(透皮光学成像). Cameras on smartphones can catch red light reflected from hemoglobin (血红素)under our skin, which permits TOI to visualize and measure blood flow changes. Researchers measured the blood pressure of 1,328 Canadian and Chinese adults by getting two-minute vide os of their faces on an iPhone. “From the video got by the technology, you can see how the blood flows in different parts of the face and through this flow, you can get a lot of information,” said Kang Lee, lead author of the study. Lee also helped create an app called Anura, which allows people to try out the TOI software for themselves, giving them the ability to record a 30-second video of their face and receive measurements for stress levels and resting heart rate. Lee said more research was needed to make sure that the measurements were as accurate as possible, explaining that the study didn’t test people with very dark or very fair skin. “In order to improve our app to make it usable, particularly for people with hypertension (高血压),we need to collect a lot of data from them, which is very hard because a lot of them are already taking medicine,”Lee explained. “We cannot tell them not to take medicine, but from time to time, we get participants who don’t take medicine so we can get hypertensive people this way.” The scientists said there were many potential applications of the technology, including providing health services for those who lived in remote areas. 1. What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 2? A. Information offered by TOI. B. New findings on hypertension. C. How TOI is put into smart phones. D. How the TOI technology works. 2. What might people benefit from the new technology mentioned above? A. Living a life free from stress. B. Improving the heart function gradually. C. Accessing health services for free. D. Knowing abnormal blood pressure earlier. 3. What can be done for a better Anura? A. Equipping phones with better cameras. B. Allowing phones to record longer videos. C. Collecting data from more diverse samples. D. Persuading participants not to take medicine. 4. Why does the author write this text? A. To predict future applications of TOI. B. To introduce TOI and an app related. C. To describe functions of cameras on phones. D. To evaluate the quality of an app called Anura. II 单项选择(必修五U1-U5;满分15分,每小题1分) 5. 高三英语下学期周练试题复习班

河北省定州市2017届高三英语下学期周练试题(复习班,4.9) 一、阅读理解 As has been all too apparent in recent days at Balcombe, few issues cause greater concern than energy policy. Many village communities feel their countryside is being ruined by the power-producing machines of wind farms; yet they never take "direct action", even though the planning laws put them at a severe disadvantage. And the generous subsidies (财政补贴) , which encourage the expansion of wind power, are not favorable to the village communities and set landowners in conflict with other residents (居民) . Those who disagree with the rapid expansion of wind farms state that the damage they cause is out of proportion(比例) to the benefits they bring, because their energy output cannot match that of the carbon-based power stations they are supposed to replace. Supporters insist that wind must be part of a mix of renewables, nuclear and carbon, and that the country is committed to meeting EU ( European Union) targets for non-carbon energy generation. Against this background, the fact that there is an argument within the Government over whether to publish an official report on wind farms' impact on the countryside becomes even more extraordinary. The two parties in the coalition (联合) government are in disagreement over what it should say. We have some advice for the two parties: publish the report, and let the country be the judge. Even if it contains evidence that wind farms are harmful, it will hardly be a pleasant surprise to people who do not like them. Equally, supporters must argue their case by acknowledging the concerns and explaining why they are either misplaced or worthy of much attention. The suggestion that further negotiations are to take place to produce an "acceptable" report suggests that the politics of coalition government are doing the country harm in a certain way.
