Gifts

Birthdays gift/present

Valentines’ day 情人节

New year’s visit 拜年

a great gift-giver 很会送礼的人

Exchanging gifts

Bribery

enhance the relationship 增强联系

1. Do you often give gifts to people?

Absolutely! I usually give gifts on a lot of occasions such as birthdays of my families and my friends. I believe giving gifts to the person I care and love on some special occasions represents my best wishes to them. Plus, I place much emphasis on gift-giving for the reason that I think

it’s a friendly way to bond with others and to strength our relationship.

2. Do you and your friend or family members give each

other gifts?

Yes. We share gifts on family celebration or festivals.

New year’s visit, birthday parties and weddings and mid-

autumn festival are occasions on which gifts are most widely shared. Some youngsters even celebrate Christmas, Valentines’ day.

3. Do you think it is easy to choose what to give other people?

Not at all! Every time I need to give other people gifts,

I have to rack my brain trying to work out what is the best

gift for him or her. I can take up to days and hours in the

mall trying to find something unique for someone special to

me because I don't want the receiver to get the same present from me every year! Plus, I need to consider that whether the gift I delicately choose might meet his or her taste. I want

to be a great gift-giver. All these considerations make it

hard for me to give gift every year!

4. Do you think it is important to give expensive gfits?

It depends! Exchanging gifts is a tradition in my country, but I wouldn’t go so far to say that giving pricey presents

is necessary. In my country, people only give costly gifts to other people when they have to bribe those powerful officers.

Of course this is illegal behavior and we should totally

against bribery. But under some other circumstances, I think

it’s quite common for parents to give expensive gifts such

as a fancy watch to their children on some big days.

5. In china, is it necessary to bring a gift when you visit someone?

Yes. It’s our common practice to buy gifts when visiting someone to show our gratitude to those who invite us. Otherwise it will be regarded as rude. It is quite necessary cuz exchanging gifts is always one of the best ways to enhance the relationship between people involved.

6. Do you think gift-giving is very important?

Yes. It’s an important way to keep our good relationship with each other. A gift for birthday or festival makes people feel happy and loved. It doesn’t have to be of great value.

A book, a funny toy, or even a postcard can be good gift, as long as to be sent by heart.

1 Next Year Marks the EU's 50th Anniversary of the Treaty A. After a period of introversion and stunned self-disbelief, continental European governments will recover their enthusiasm for pan-European institution-building in 2007. Whether the European public will welcome a return to what voters in two countries had rejected so short a time before is another matter. B. There are several reasons for Europe’s recovering self-confidence. For years European economies had been lagging dismally behind America (to say nothing of Asia), but in 2006 the large continental economies had one of their best years for a decade, briefly outstripping America in terms of growth. Since politics often reacts to economic change with a lag, 2006’s improv ement in economic growth will have its impact in 2007, though the recovery may be ebbing by then. C. The coming year also marks a particular point in a political cycle so regular that it almost seems to amount to a natural law. Every four or five years, European countries take a large stride towards further integration by signing a new treaty: the Maastricht treaty in 1992, the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1997, the Treaty of Nice in 2001. And in 2005 they were supposed to ratify a European constitution, laying the ground for yet more integration—until the calm rhythm

You see, because of different culture background in China, not all the birthdays are celebrated. The birthdays which are celebrated big are “when the child is 30 days” in Chinese we call it Manyue (meaning full month), then it is the 100day celebration known as 100Tian, and then is the first birthday, 10th birthday, 15th birthday, 18th birthday and so on. Anyway, I remember on my 18th birthday, which was the birthday I celebrate 3 years ago, my parents arranged a banquet and invited most of the relatives and friends; it’s a big party and more than 100 guests arrived. In the morning my parents gave me my presents, a laptop and a new mobile phone, later I got busy with them until it was time to cut the cake. At the restaurant, we had a wonderful banquet and I received lot of Hongbaos, you see, on big celebration in China people usually put some money inside of a red colour envelop and give it to the person celebrating his birthday or wedding, it’s considered to fortune in the future.

14 The nervous system of vertebrates is characterized by a hollow, dorsal nerve cord that ends in the head region as an enlargement, the brain. Even in its most primitive form this cord and its attached nerves are the result of evolutionary specialization, and their further evolution from lower to higher vertebrate classes is a process that is far from fully understood. Nevertheless, the basic arrangements are similar in all vertebrates, and the study of lower animals gives insight into the form and structure of the nervous system of higher animals. Moreover, for any species, the study of the embryological development of the nervous system is indispensable for an understanding of adult morphology. In any vertebrate two chief parts of the nervous system may be distinguished. These are the central nervous system (the nerve cord mentions above), consisting of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, consisting of the cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves, together with their motor and sensory endings. The term "autonomic nervous system" refers to the parts of the central and peripheral systems that supply and regulate the activity of cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and many glands. The nervous system is composed of many millions of nerve and glial cells, together with blood vessels and a small amount of connective tissue. The nerve cells, or "neurons", are characterized by many processes and are specialized in that they exhibit to a great degree the phenomena of irritability and conductivity. The glial cells of the central nervous system are supporting cells collectively termed

Task:Some people think getting old is entirely bad, but other people do think it’s much better for old people to live now than in the past. Please show your idea with explanation, examples and your knowledge. Sample answer: It has become a common phenomenon for people in a number of countries to enjoy an increasing life expectancy. While some people believe it is horrible just to imagine getting old , I think the situation has completely changed comparing to decades ago and now elderly people can lead a happy life. In some cases, the seniors do experience empty nest syndrome because their children are away from home. However, things are different nowadays. There are numerous residential homes with trained carers in a country and they have become a perfect place for the elderly to stay after retirement, where the elderly will not feel lonely and bored with the company of their peers. Another concern for numerous senior citizens is the health problem. In the past, without advanced medical science, the seniors tend to suffer from various kinds of diseases, which decrease their quality of life at great extent. By contrast, the medical science is developing at an amazing speed and this trend can at least delay the onset of some chronic conditions and with healthy body, the elderly can enjoy happier lives.

Describe a book you read、a gift you received from others、a wild animal、a handicraft、an electrical appliance that is useful to you、an important letter that you received、a game you played in your childhood等; 抽象类物品如:Describe an interesting news、a useful website、 a performance you saw、a organization、your future job、your future plan、something that you don't know but would like to learn等。 Describe a gift you sent to others 物品词汇: Arts and crafts工艺品;Charm护身符;Cross stitch 十字绣;Knitting 编织品;Shell craft 贝壳制品;Mug 杯子;Multi Purpose Tools 多功能工具 物品特点词汇:
