Old person

Describe an old man who has influenced you:

1. Who was he?

2. When did you know him?

3. What he did and explain why he influenced you

I really admire my grandfather. Because he taught me something that I cannot learn from school or books, which impressed me most was his attitude to life and death.

When he was young, life in China was hard to imagine, my grandfather joined the army after his father’s death, that year he was only sixteen. Death or success, just like today’s coffee or tea, was everyday’s topic.

China won the independence in 1949, and my grandfather continued to contribute to the country until 1990. Until then, a wealthy and happy life was beginning for my grandfather and so did disease. After more than 50 years tough life, my grandfather suffered from a variety of diseases, s uch as diabetes, high blood pressure. In my view, I thought grandfather’s life is tragedy; never enjoy on day peace a joy. However, he still maintains a happy outlook on life. as he always told me that “we can’t change life itself, but what really matter is the attitude you face life”. Although grandfather is rather old now, and weak, he still does some reading and walking. His attitude influence me deeply, I will take the same way to face any difficulty in my life.

Describe the person in your family who is most similar to you.

You should say:

1) Who this person is?

2) What type of person he/she is?

3) Why you two are similar?

And explain why you think you two are similar

答答:

I’d like to describe my grandfather who is very kind. He passed away before I went to college.

My grandfather worked in a factory as a technician. He couldn’t earn much but he stuck to sending mother to school., b ecause he thought education could change a person’s life. His hard working attitude really affects our whole family. …

We are similar in characters. The lessons I learnt from my grandfather were still in mind. “Trust yourself and to be a good person”, which is basic belief to be a human being. We are both a kind people who are brave to pursue our dreams and to be nice to other people.

We are similar because he influences me a lot….

多米诺骨牌效应:=Something you learned from math=Something you learned from your family=A piece of advice=A change you had=An important stage in your life=A text message you got=A letter you got=An E-mail you got=A way of communication=An important decision you made=A person who helped you=A kind thing someone did to you=A family member you love talking to=A good parent=An elderly family member=A neighbor=A good friend=A teacher=A science course you took=A subject you love/d at school=Your personality=First day of college=Your experience of getting money as a gift=Your experience of getting congratulations=A person you helped=A thing your friend did made you admire.

A family member made you proud/who has had important influence on you Let me tell you about my grandma, who plays a very important part in my life. She has always been there for me, when I was a young child, she used to look after me, because my parents both had a job and couldn’t stay at home to look after me. Since I went to university, I don’t get to see her as often as I used to, but I give her a call on a regular basis to check how she is doing. She is not that tall, but because she always holds herself very straight, she doesn’t look that short. She has many wrinkles on her forehead and around her eyes, but she say it makes her look wiser. My grandma is a very kind person. She smiles a lot, and she always wants to help everybody. Everyone knows she is extremely considerate and thoughtful. She used to be a teacher, so many people in my hometown knows her. A lot of her former students visit her whenever they go back home. I can’t say that her schedule has been busy even though she is already seventy, but she seems to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing life. She cooks pretty much every day, and every morning she gets up early to go grocery shopping and she buys the newspaper on a daily basis. She has a fixed routine[ru:?ti:n] and she stick to it. After lunch she takes a nap and then goes for a walk. My grandma plays an influential role in my life. I definitely learned a lot from her. She showed me how to be a polite and respectful person. She also encouraged me when I was in middle school and I found school a bit boring. I feel so proud that I have such a kind grandma who always keeps a positive attitude which infects everyone around her. 2. A creative inventor or musician I want to talk about Yo-Yo Ma who is one of the most renowned cellists [?t?el?st] in the world. The first time I heard his music is when I watch a Hong Kong movie called Ashes of Time in which Yo-Yo Ma was invited by the director to create music in this film. This movie is enhanced by Yo-Yo’s stunning music. From that time his music interested me a lot and I was intensely curious to know more about him. When he was at the age of 4, his father gave him lessons on the cello[?t?el??] and he was able to give his performance in public when he was 5. When yoyo was 9 he had the opportunity to study at a famous music school in New York. Now he’s considered to be one of the greatest cellists in the world. He tours the world playing his cello. Some

Describe an interesting foreigner you know You should say Who is this?person What does this person do How did you know this person Why do you think this person is interesting Approximately 30 years ago while traveling for business I met an elderly Japanese man I found fascinating. While traveling together I had the honor of hearing about his life. He spoke perfect English with a slight British Accent. He told me learning English was discouraged when he was growing up. However, the challenge of rebelling and learning English was too great. He learned English by listening to the BBC shortwave radio broadcasts and reading anything in English he could find. His language?ability?served him well in later years when he would serve as a?companion?translator to Japanese businessmen and English speaking businessmen in Japan and abroad. As the war in the Pacific dragged on, and it became apparent that Japan was losing, he was drafted into service by the Japanese military and trained to fly at a young age. He was pressed into service to be a Kamikaze. During his first battle he was shot down before he could crash his airplane into its target. He was rescued and imprisoned until the end of the war. The Japanese government thought he had died in battle. Therefore, he no longer officially existed. His family stayed together and alive due to being eligible for food rations. Since he did not officially exist, he could not receive any rations. His stories of subsisting during the post war occupation were sad and unsettling. I subsequently had several opportunities to spend time with him both in the US and Japan. During that time in my career I tried to learn enough Japanese to be a polite visitor. But I also tried to learn as many Japanese colloquialisms and swear words to unexpectedly spring on him for laughs. About 10 years after meeting him, I learned that he had passed away. A most interesting individual whom I admired and was saddened by his passing.

Who this friendis?/Who he or she is?/Who thisperson is?/Who the character was?/Who these two people are? He is well oversix feet tall, has this long straggly brown hair. He has a perpetual look ofbemusement on his face,full-sleeve tattoos on both arms, and always wears some variation of a sleeveless leather vest, holey blue jeans tucked into his beat-up cowboy boots, and a cigarette between his lips at all times。 这些细节的描述远比那种范范的诸如“He‘s quite tall and strong with long hair on his head。” Who he or she is? How you firstmet this person?/How you know this person?/How you know him/her?/How you know aboutthis person?

He's the one who conquered all the other Warring States and unified all of China more than 2000 years ago. He's always been my idol because of his superb leadership skills and creativity. First of all, the title “emperor” was his invention. And after he established Qin Dynasty, he built the Great Wall to defend his country against enemies, which has become a human wonder in the world. And according to our history textbook, he invented a new road system, as well as the unification of measurement. In ancient China, people in different states used various characters and languages, and they even don't have the same measurement, which made the communication between states unbearably inconvenient. During his reign, he standardized the Chinese units of measurements like weights and measures, the currency and the length of the carts, so that vehicles can run conveniently on the new road system. As a leader, he's also decisive and forward-looking. He's the first leader in the Warring States Period who performed far-reaching reforms. And he attached great importance to the law, so people in his country could be more civilized and educated.
