2.阅读理解

Everybody hates rats. But rats may soon be man's new good friends. What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue dogs. Why? Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can't get into small spaces. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.

How does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat's brain gives a signal. This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat's brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.

Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better. Robots' noses don't work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that. Rats can also see in the dark, they are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don't need electricity!

The "rat project" is not finished. But a scientist says, "It would be great. A rat could get into any place we couldn't get to, and a rat would get out if it wasn't safe." Perhaps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building (but only after an earthquake, of course).

3.根据短文内容,判断正误。

Dear Alan,

Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in. I am excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?

I am not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment, On the other hand, if I rent a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can not live with someone who is loud and messy. I do not have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time travelling.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Love,

Texting while driving is against the law in 47 states. But what about texting while walking? A 2018 study reported that more than 2, 500 people in the US ended up in hospitals resulting from using a mobile device (设备) while walking.

Hawaii passed a law making it illegal (违法的) to text or look down at a mobile device while crossing the street, it is the first state with a law like this. Do people think more places should accept such a law? The LA Times did a survey. Here are some replies they received.

Rena Jose, 26, New York

Which is more important, texting or safety? If you are looking at your phone while walking, you might not see a car come or traffic lights turn red. It can be very dangerous. For example, in Japan, one person fell into a lake and another got her leg stuck in a hole, because both had their

mind on their phone. We should make texting while crossing the street illegal in more cities. Andy Selvam, 55, California

People do many things that cause injury to themselves but are not illegal, such as climbing mountains, driving cars, swimming and so on. People might get hurt from texting and walking if they're not paying attention. But 1 still think they should have a choice.

Bob Madigan, 45, Oregon

As humans, we can make our own decisions. I'm not saying it's safe, but we don't need the government to babysit us. If we want to learn to make smart decisions, the government needs to stop telling us what to do. After all, this is a free country.

Andrew Black, 34, Alaska

Do stars only appear at night? The answer is no .Venus (金星) is the one and only star that can be seen in the daytime. It shone at its brightest in the night sky on February 17th, 2017.

Venus is the second planet from the sun in our solar system. It is the second brightest natural object, behind Earth's moon, in the night sky. Why is it so bright?

First of all, Venus is the closest planet to Earth. It is also covered by highly reflective (反射的)clouds, which can reflect about 70 percent of the sunlight striking(照射) it, almost twice as much as Earth does.

Some called 2017 the year of Venus, because the planet is at its brightest when it goes further away from the sun, and nearer to Earth. The brightest moment happened once in February, and happened again, during daylight, on April 30th.

If Venus is so bright and close to us, isn't it a better choice for human exploration than Mars? It is closer to Earth than Mars and it's closer to Earth in size. The closer distance to the sun means solar power would be easier to generate (产生) as well.

However, with a temperature of about 465℃on the surface, Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system!

But scientists never give up. Recently, a team of NASA and Russian scientists created new computer equipment that can stand the temperature of 480℃. It can work under Venus-like conditions for almost 22 days.

The next step, according to the scientists, is to send a probe(探测器)to Venus by 2025.(1)Which of the following about Venus is NOT true?

A. It's the only star that can be seen in the daytime.

B. It's the second planet from the sun.

C. It's the brightest natural object in the night sky.

D. It's the closest planet to Earth.

(2)Venus is at its brightest when .

A. it can reflect about 35 percent of the sunlight

B. it goes further away from the sun and nearer to Earth

C. it is closest to the sun and furthest from Earth

D. the dates are February 17th and April 30th every year

(3)What makes Venus a worse place for human exploration than Mars?

A. The closer distance to Earth.

B. The similar size to Earth.

C. Too much solar power to use.

D. The extremely high temperature.

(4)According to the last two paragraphs, the new computer equipment .

a. was created by some UK scientists

b. can stand the temperature of 480℃

It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn't accepted by all people.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and mathematics need not be taught in detail(详细地), either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.

Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.

I would agree that making a living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.

"Without music, life would be a mistake, "famous German philosopher(哲学家)Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some American schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).

For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired over 1, 000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often. However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways.

When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth K. Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.

Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:Einstein played the violin and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.

(1)Some schools in the US cut music classes, because ____.

A. they were too difficult to learn

B. students in the US weren't interested in music

D. there weren't enough music teachers in the US (2)In Paragraph 2, what does the underlined word "them" refer to(指代)?

A. Students in Chicago.

B. Public schools.

C. Parents in Chicago.

D. Fired teachers.(3)How many scientists who are good at playing music are mentioned in this passage?

A. One.

B. Two.

C. Three.

D. Four.

(4)What's the writer's opinion according to this passage?

A. Music is as simple as it looks.

B. Music classes should be cut in some schools.

C. Music is a big part of our lives.

D. Music isn't a very important life skill for us.

【答案】(1)C

It's important to learn about protecting our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us:

Reduce

If you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely(明智地). A larger number of trees are cut down to make paper. If everyone uses paper carelessly, soon we will not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people don't know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to use things wisely.

Reuse

You should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them away. For example, you can give your clothes you do not wear any more to the poor. In a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.

Recycle

Bottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By recycling them we save lots of time and money. For example, Coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat (压平) and melted(融化) and the metal things are made for new Coke cans.

Recover(恢复)

(英语)中考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案 一、英语阅读(日常生活类) 1.阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳答案。 If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer. 5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time? A. Beijing. B. Shanghai. C. Shenzhen. (2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?. A. 5G is widely used in China now. B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient. C.
