快捷英语时文阅读七年级Fast English News Reading for Grade 7 Students。
In today's fast-paced world, English has become a global language that plays a crucial role in communication and education. As a seventh-grade student, it is essential to develop strong reading skills to comprehend and analyze various types of texts. This article aims to provide you with tips and strategies for fast English news reading, enabling you to improve your reading speed and comprehension.First and foremost, it is crucial to choose news articles that are suitable for your English proficiency level. Start with articles specifically written for learners or those with simplified language. This will help you understand the content more easily and build your confidence. As you progress, gradually challenge yourself with more complex articles from reputable news sources. To enhance your reading speed, it is essential to train your eyes to move quickly across the text. Avoid reading word by word, as this can slow you down. Instead, focus on reading phrases or groups of words at a time. This technique, known as "chunking," allows you to grasp the meaning of a sentence or paragraph more efficiently.Another effective strategy is skimming. Skimming involves quickly glancing over the text to get a general idea of the content. Pay attention to headings, subheadings, and the first and last sentences of each paragraph. This technique helps you identify the main ideas and key details without reading every word. While skimming provides a general understanding, it is equally important to develop your ability to scan for specific information. Scanning involves quickly searching for particular words, phrases, or numbers in the text. This skill is particularly useful when you need to find answers to specific questions or locate specific details within a news article.Vocabulary plays a significant role in understanding news articles. As you read, make a note of unfamiliar words and look up their meanings. Building a strongvocabulary will not only improve your comprehension but also enable you to express yourself more effectively in both spoken and written English.Furthermore, try to make connections between the news articles you read and your own life or the world around you. This will help you relate to the content and make it more memorable. Discussing current events and news stories with your classmates or teachers can also deepen your understanding and provide different perspectives. In addition to reading news articles, consider watching news broadcasts or listening to news podcasts in English. This will expose you to different accents, intonations, and vocabulary used in news reporting. It will also help you improve your listening skills, which are closely linked to reading comprehension.Lastly, practice regularly. Set aside dedicated time each day to read news articles in English. Start with shorter articles and gradually increase the length and complexity as you progress. Consistency is key to improving your reading skills and building confidence. In conclusion, developing fast English news reading skills is essential for seventh-grade students. By choosing suitable articles, using strategies such as chunking, skimming, and scanning, building vocabulary, making connections, and practicing regularly, you can enhance your reading speed and comprehension. Remember, reading is not just about understanding the words; it is about gaining knowledge, broadening your horizons, and becoming a critical thinker. Happy reading!。
A British scientist won the Nobel Prize in medicine and physiology in 2012 for his famous work on cloning(克隆). However, his schoolmasters always told him he was too foolish to study the subject. At 15, John Gurdon was the last one of the 250 boys studying biology. Sixty-four years later, he has been recognized as one of the finest minds after getting the Nobel Prize. He shares it with Japanese researcher Shinya Yamanaka.Sir John said that his school report still sits above his desk at the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge, which is named in his honor. Sir John said it’s the only item he’s ever framed(给…加框). The master, Mr Gaddum, had taught these pupils. He said: "I heard Gurdon was interested in science. It was funny. When you have problems, perhaps you aren’t so good at this job."After receiving the report, Sir John turned to another subject and was offered a place to study at Christ Church, Oxford, but was allowed to change courses. It was at Oxford that he published his research on genetics(基因学). But it was 10 years before his work became widely accepted. But it later led directly to the cloning of Dolly the Sheep by Ian Wilmut in 1996, and to Yamanaka’s discovery. But Sir John thought it would have been "nicer" if Professor Wilmut had been given a third share of the prize. He joined the university in 1971 and was a founding member of the Wellcome/CRC Institute for Cell Biology and Cancer in1989. It was later renamed the Gurdon Institute, where he still works full-time at 79.He first heard about his prize when an Italian newspaper telephoned him in his lab to ask for his feeling at 7.30 am on Monday morning. An hour later he received a call from the Swedish Academy(瑞典学院) telling him he had won the prize, but he had thought that the call was from a friend speaking in a Swedish accent.★1. What did John Gurdon do after he received his school report? DA. He didn’t change his subjects.B. He was refused to enter school.C. He directly studied genetics.D. He still kept learning biology.3. Why did the Gurdon Institute get its present name? AA. In honor of John Gurdon.B. To remember John Gurdon’s prize.C. To help John Gurdon win a prize.D. It happened to use the same name.4. It can be inferred from the text that when John Gurdon first heard about his prize, he thoughtD .A. it was really good newsB. his friends were laughing at himC. it was nothing to mentionD. it was hard to believeA 44-year-old Swedish man, Peter Skyllberg, was found in a car buried under snow, at the end of a forest track more than 1 km from a main road in northern Sweden. He survived for two months by eating handfuls of snow. But how long can people go without food?Skyllberg h ad been inside the car since 19 December, 2011. Experts believe it’s possible for the human body to survive without food for up to two months. Last year, a 56-year-old woman from British Columbia survived nearly 50 days in the Nevada wilderness on sweets and waterafter being stranded in the mountains while her husband went in search of help.★In fact there’re many causes that can influence a person’s ability to survive, such as the way the body’s metabolism(新陈代谢) slows down to keep energy. When the body stops getting food, it has to live on the stored sugars. When this runs out, fat is then turned into the second energy supply. After the fat runs out, the body must take recycled protein(蛋白质) from the system and finally from the muscles. But this is very expensive fuel for the body. It’s like being in a cold house and burning furniture instead of firewood. However, the muscle loss slows the body’s work, causing it to burn calories at a slower rate.Being trapped into a small space would have helped Skyllberg keep precious calories. The car was covered in snow, creating what some experts have des cribed as an “igloo(因纽特人小屋) effect” on the car.A person’s mental state can play a key role in how long they survive, according to Stephen Joseph, a professor at the University of Nottingham. “In dangerous situations, survival depends on personalities. Some might lose hope, w hile others are more hopeful.”says Joseph. “Hope is probably a big key to this.”1. Why did the text mention the 56-year-old woman from British Columbia? AA. To show man can survive two months without food.B. To prove that Peter Skyllberg’s story was not true.C. To tell if Peter Skyllberg survived longer than her.D. 无论贫穷与否,任何人都能在这里获得等同的信息”。
正是基于此,当美国华盛顿州斯波坎市的地方政府因资金短缺而不得不停办学校的图书馆时,三位母亲展开了她们的拯救行动。
Mission Brunkan,Susan McBurney and Denette Hill are three mothers of the students. They are happy that their children's school has a library to help their kids learn. But one day Brunkan read in the newspaper that the local government(当地政府)would not give money to schools for their libraries any more.So she decided to get together with the other two mothers to help the libraries.“Any child from anywhere should be able to learn as much as possible,”Brunkan says,“no matter how much money they have.”Brunkan,McBurney and Hill met with the local government to talk about the matter.

Americans often use first names upon meeting a stranger and don‟t always shake hands. They often just smile and say “Hi” or “Hello” rather than using a more formal handshake. It is good to remember that to an American such an informal greeting really means the same thing as a formal handshake someplace else. Similarly, Americans do not usually give a special farewell(告辞) or handshake to each person when they leave a party of business meeting. They will o ften just wave goodbye to the whole group or perhaps say, “Well, so long everybody, I‟ll see you tomorrow.” They then will leave. No handshakes.Americans seem either totally(完全地) hurried and hardworking or totally informal and at ease. Often you‟ll see men working at office desks without their suit coats and ties. They may lean far back in their chairs and even put their feet up on the desks while they are talking on the telephone. This does not mean to be rude. Once Americans leave the busy streets, they are easy and informal. 【记一记】Words:1. respect / / n. 尊重2. similarly / / adv. 类似地,相似地3. special / / adj. 特别的4. informal / / adj. 非正式的5. lean / / vi. 倾斜,倚靠Expressions:1. at ease 安逸,休闲自在2. rather than 而不是,宁可…也不愿3. wave goodbye to 向……挥手告别Sentences:1.It is good to remember that to an American such an informal greeting really means the samething as a formal handshake someplace else. 最好记住对美国人而言,如此不正式的一次问候就同在什么地方一次正式的握手一样。
