奥巴马获胜演讲的文体学分析

摘要：美国新当选的总统奥巴马堪称是一个演讲高手，他的演讲既振奋人心又言简意赅、主题突出。本文选取奥巴马的获胜演讲，从语音、词汇、句法和修辞四个方面来分析这篇演讲的文体特征，以帮助我们了解其语言特点进而为我们更好地进行演讲活动提供启示。
关键词：奥巴马；语言描写；文体分析
文体分析（stylistic analysis）是建立在语言描写（linguistic description）基础之上的。语言描写在特定社会情境中所产生的表达效果和交际功能是通过特定的语音、词汇、句法特征和语义结构予以体现的。本文将从语音、词汇、句法和修辞这四个方面来分析2008年11月4日夜奥巴马发表的获胜演讲。
一、奥巴马获胜演讲的语音特征
演讲时演讲者通过语言将演讲内容传递给听众，因此演讲属于一种口语体。对于口语体语篇分析离不开对语音层面的描写，诸如音色、节奏、语速、停顿等因素都会直接或间接地决定或影响口头表达的风格和效果。
奥巴马的发音十分标准，很少有吞音、压缩音现象，而且较少使用缩略语。他会非常有技巧地加快或放慢语速，这篇演讲共有2050个单词，整篇演讲约持续16分48秒，平均语速约为122wpm（单词每分钟，下同）。而母语为英语的人讲话平均语速为150wpm，奥巴马的演讲速度比一般人讲话慢就是为了让听众们更好理解其内容。停顿也多次运用在这篇演讲中，奥巴马语速十分平缓，几乎每一句都有停顿给听众以足够的时间来理解自己的意图。同时停顿还可以让奥巴马有时间和台下观众互动，达到很好的交流效果，在这次演讲中明显的停顿有4处。
二、奥巴马获胜演讲的词汇特征
英语演讲作为一种十分正式的活动，对词汇的选择十分讲究。在这篇演讲中共有74个三个音节以上的难词（不包括专有名词和因时态和数而演变来的派生词）。其难度指数（fog index）为：9.16（详细计算过程参见表一）。

难度指数=0.4（H+L）（钱媛，1991）（其中，L=平均句长；H=难度比例）奥巴马的这篇演讲之说以难度指数较低，是由于他考虑到支持他的选民很多是没受过良好教育的少数族裔人群，所以选择大家熟悉的词汇以更好的传递要表达的信息，使整篇通俗易懂，朗朗上口。
在这篇演讲中使用最多的是第一人称，而第二和第三人称则较少使用。第一人称单数I （我）的使用便于说话者表明自己的观点；we（我们）的运用就把演讲者和听众摆到同一立场上，这样显得更加的亲切，而且奥巴马还善于交替使用第一人称代词和第二人称代词，使听众觉得演讲者与自己同属一个团体的感觉更加强烈，来看下面一个例子：
But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in
the work of remaking this nation, the only way it’s been done in America for
221 years —block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.?
在这段中文字中奥巴马交替运用人称代词I（我）、we（我们）、you（你/你们）来讲述事实，让信息更个人化，也创造出一种更亲密的感觉，在感情上缩短了演讲者与听众的距离。

三、奥巴马获胜演讲的句法特征
公众演讲比日常谈话要正式一些，但又没法律文体和公文那么正式。不同文体之间所存在的差异往往集中体现在句法特征上。下面我们就从句子长度、动词时态、句子类型来分析这篇演讲的句法特征。
（一）句子长度
从表三中可以看到，这篇演讲中使用最多是短句，其在文中的比例达到31.1%。短句因其结构简单、表意明确常常放在段落末或是章节末来产生一个表达有力的“终结”（finality）请看下面这个例子：
And to those Americanswhose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too.?
这个例子中奥巴马用And I will be your president.这句话作为该段的结束加强了语气，产生了铿锵有力、干脆利落的效果。

（二）动词时态
在演讲中一般现在时占有主要地位，现在完成时使用最少。在与选民们回顾自己艰难的竞选之路时，奥巴马大量使用了过去时。当奥巴马的着眼点放在将来，给人们一定许诺的时候，就较多使用了将来时。如:I promise you, we as a people will get there.总的来说，这篇演讲以一般现在时为主，其他时态为辅。
（三）句子类型
句子按功能特点，可分为陈述句（declarative sentence）、祈使句（imperative sentence）和疑问句（interrogative sentence）；句子按从句的数量，可分为简单句（simple sentence）和复句（multiple sentence）；句子按语义核心在句中所处的位置，可分为圆周句（periodical sentence）和松散句（loose sentence）。下面分别按照这三个标准来谈谈不同的句子类型在本篇演讲中所起的文体作用。
在奥巴马的这篇演说中几乎都是陈述句，其目的是使语调平衡，给人庄重严肃感。祈使句在这篇演说中只出现了2次，都是以Let为开头出现，反映出奥巴马谦虚、谨慎的态度。
奥巴马在这篇演说中还频繁使用了复合句和混合句，这与公众演讲准确、庄重、严肃的特点是相一致的。请看下面一个例子：
To the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics ... you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.
奥巴马用and组成一个并列句把其竞选团队的成就以及自己对他们的感谢连接起来，然后用what引导的一个宾语从句把感谢的原因列出，这样使语义得到层层舒展。
奥巴马在这篇演说中还使用了圆周句，把句子中较为重要的成分放在句末，形成一种强
势借以加强语义。这样可以产生一种悬念来加深听众的印象。请看下面这个例子：
It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America.
在奥巴马讲这番话的时候，听众不知道句首的it指的什么，于是注意力就被吸引到了句子最后一部分，即change has come to America，奥巴马变革的决心也再一次得到强调。
四、奥巴马获胜演讲的修辞特征
演讲者为了增加演讲的感染力去获得听众的支持和赞同，总会喜欢使用各种修辞手段。奥巴马在这篇演讲中使最常见使用的修辞有以下三种：排比（parallelism）、对偶（antithesis）、重复（repetition）。
（一）排比
排比是把结构相同或相似、意义相关的几个词组或句子并列使用。请看下面这个例子：If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the pow er of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
这是奥巴马演讲正文的第一句话，他用三个who引导的定语从句组成一个句式整齐的平行结构把那些怀疑美国梦和美国民主的人一一列出，然后以一句Today is your answer作结，将自己对美国强烈的感情和对怀疑者不满的态度表现得淋漓尽致。
（二）对偶
对偶是把两个字数相近、结构相同、意义相关的两个部分对称的排列在一起。对偶在合适的语境中既能产生结构美还能引人注目，有利于强调讲演者的语义。请看下面的例子：
To those —to those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you.
在这两句中，奥巴马用这样一个对偶句来把美国对待恐怖主义的态度鲜明简洁地表达出来给人深刻的印象。对偶的使用让这两个句子显得铿锵有力，对恐怖分子形成一种威慑
力。
（三）重复
演说者有时候为了强调某个意思，会特意安排重复。在这篇演说中，奥巴马在感谢选民支持，称胜利归功于选民时It belongs to you.反复出现了2次。在表达自己变革的决心时更是把Y es, we can.这句话更是出现了7次。
通过以上的分析，可以看到奥巴马这篇获胜演讲观点清晰、语言优美、内涵深刻，此外他还经常运用各种演讲技巧和修辞手法使语言更加生动形象。我们在领略奥巴马语言魅力的同
时，也要学习他的演讲特点和技巧并将其融入到我们的生活中。
