He never believed that true love existed.

But again he was wrong. His grandfather, Ralph, was struck ill in his junior year of college and he didn’t know how serious it was until he fell and hurt his hip. While in the hospital, the doctors found out a tumor in his lungs. They told him that

he had lung cancer and due to previous illnesses, they could not operate and he was too weak for chemotherapy.

It was around Thanksgiving Day and by Christmas his condition worsened. The cancer spread and in late January his sister away at college too, called him crying and said she was on her way home because the doctors told our family that their grandfather had only a week to live, that by the weekend he would no longer be with them. Their family came in from around the country and stayed next to his side.

适合大学生阅读的英文原著 对于阅读英文书有一些小建议,是以前ABC360的外教教我的,也有很多书是外教老师推荐的,从一个外国人的视角而言非常有新意。现在拿出来借花献佛咯~ 1.挑选适合自己水平的书看。如何知道是否适合自己呢?拿起一本书,随便翻开一页浏览一下,如果低于5个单词不认识,那这本书对你来说太容易了点;如果有超过10个单词不认识,那这本书你看着会有点累;最适合的情况一般是在5到10个之间。 2.不要去深究词意,学会猜词和跳读。读英文书的时候不要去死抠词意,更不要在一旁备着词典查单词。你要享受书本内容,真正处于阅读状态。想想当你读中文书的时候,出现生字词的时候几时你会专门去翻字典?所以读英文书也是一样。遇到生词,直接跳过,如果出现了好几次,那就联系上下文猜猜大概的意思。只有在实在是这个生词会影响阅读和理解时,才需要去查意。 3.再者建议是从自已感兴趣的出发,可以读自已以及读过的中文译本的英文原著。比如我非常喜欢哈利波特,在反复读过很多遍中文版后,选择了这一套书作为英语读物的启蒙。因为之前看过很多遍,所以即使是英文版理解起来也几乎没有难度,也很能引发自已的兴趣。 4.读现代作家的书,畅销书、或者是一些童话。王尔德的童话和《小王子》很多畅销书,特别是划分在青少年读物的那些非常好读,情节有趣,语言生动简单,生词不会太多。 5.如果水平不够高,不建议阅读古典名著。很多名著作品距离现代都有一定

浅谈如何培养高中学生的英语阅读能力 根据高中英语教学大纲的要求:“在高中英语教学中,听、说、读、写要进行综合训练,在进一步提高听、说、读、写能力的同时,更侧重培养阅读能力。”从某种意义上说,阅读能力的提高,是听、说、读、写能力提高的关键。通过阅读,扩大了知识面,增加了词汇量,交际时就不会因为知识或词汇贫乏而言不达意,写作时才能语言地道,内容丰富。然而,阅读能力的培养和提高不是一朝一夕能够达到的。需要经过长期的努力,一步步提高。在这个过程中,课内精读和课外泛读都很重要。只强调精读课本,不进行课外泛读,就无法扩大知识面,无法提高阅读速度,就只能是逐词逐句爬行式的阅读;而不重视精读课本,一味强调课外泛读,势必造成基础不实,对所读材料理解不透的后果。因此,必须在精读课文的基础上,进行一定量的课外泛读。 一、改革课文教学,打好语言基础 课文是培养学生阅读能力的主要材料。课文教学的成败,直接影响到学生阅读能力的培养和提高。在课文教学中,应着重抓以两个方面: 1.课前预习,培养能力 课前预习是培养学生自学能力的重要手段之一。通过预习,学生综合运用已有知识和技能,初步了解教材内容,发现教材的疑难问题,带着问题上课。这样,使学生的针对性更强,更能激发学生的求知欲,同时也便于教师集中力量解决重点难点问题。预习时,一般要求学生做到以下几点:(1)拼读生词、词组,扫清阅读障碍。(2)浏览全文,找出各自然段的主题句,或说出段落大意。(3)划出语言难点,并提出独立的见解。(4)就课文内容提出问题,供课堂上进行问答。实践证明,通过课前预习,学生学习变得更主动了,上课时解决问题的效率也更高了,从而节省了讲解时间,加强了综合训练。 2.围绕中心,整体教学 对于课文的教学,笔者认为,课文不仅仅只是语音、语法和词汇的综合运用,而且是围绕着某一主题,某些内容或情节而进行的综合运用。因此,课文首先应做一个整体来教,应在学生了解文章内容要旨的基础上进行语言操练。这样,既强调语言结构的学习,又强调语言功能的学习,使学生通过学习,不但能听、说、读、写,而且做到理解准确,表达得体。 在课文教学中,笔者往往从整体入手,先让学生通过预习来了解全文的内容大意,再通过做理解习题来检查预习效果。对于故事体裁的课文,先通过听、说法来介绍课文背景和内容,再通过问答来检查学生对主要内容的理解。这样做,目的是使学生养成一开始阅读就努力寻找文章要旨的习惯,训练学生根据关键词语捕捉文章大意的能力。在分析句子时,强调词不离句、句不离文,不仅注意句子的表层意义,更要注意到句子的深层意义,注意句子同文章内容及主题的内在

谈谈英语阅读对英语写作的重要作用

摘要:随着课程改革的逐步深入,无论是在高考的命题趋势还是教师的教学环节都更加注重我们高中生学习英语的实践性,这使得英语写作的地位提升到了更高的层次。但是,我们高中生的学习方法并没有与之发生相应的改变,我们依旧抽出定量的学习时间进行专项式的写作训练。其实,笔者认为写作能力的提高却非一朝一夕之功,而阅读和写作是密切相联系的,我们可以在日常的阅读中提升自己的写作能力。本文就从,高中英语写作现状、英语阅读对写作的重要作用、阅读背景下的写作学习方法三方面展开论述。 关键词:高中英语阅读;英语写作;方法 语言是一种社交的工具,写作产生于社会交际的需要。英语的学习除了能听懂对方讲话进行日常交流的同时,我们还要能够运用原汁原味的英语写出精美的文章来表达出我们内心的感受、想法。写作考核是我们英语的综合技能,它需要充足的词汇量、正确的语法以及相关的文化背景等。而高中阶段我们接触到的文章大多数水平较高,通过文章的深入学习和恰当的学习策略,对于我们英语写作能力的提升具有主要的价值。 一、高中英语写作现状 写作能力的提升存在于我们日常英语学习的各个环节,因此,重在积累是写作能力提高的关键要素。我们自从上学以来,词汇、语法的学习在我们学习时间中占有了很大的比例,而我们接触相关的写作教学则较晚,在与周围同学的交流的过程当中,笔者发现同学们在写作中主要存在以下几个问题: 1、词汇不足、选词不准确 众所周知,写作是建立在充足的词汇量基础上的,但是许多同学不重视词汇的积累和运用,这就导致我们在真正的写作环节中陷入“无词可用”的尴尬境地。大脑中记忆的词汇远不能灵活地表达出我们的所思所想,这是许多同学在写作中产生的普遍现象;另一方面,同学们不懂得文章的美化,依旧采用初中阶段简单的词汇,我们写出的文章让人读起来仿佛是简单词汇的堆砌,毫无美感可言。举一个例子,在描述一个学生成绩优秀时,同学们只会用“good”,而不会用较高级的词汇“excellent”,这样虽然降低了犯错误的概率,但是文章的层次和精彩程度都大打折扣。 2、句式单一,结构不熟悉 高中阶段的写作要求我们要掌握多种文章的写法,如书信、报告等以后工作都广泛应用的文章形式,而这些类型我们在日常的阅读中都会接触到。但是同学们不注重阅读文章的结构分析,使得我们对写作要求的格式十分陌生。我们高中生学习了很多语法形式,但是不能将其运用到写作中,我们写出的文章复合句式较少,而大篇幅的都是简单的句式。 3、思维定式,文化不恰当 英语作为一门语言,它有特定的文化背景,我们写出的文章要符合其背景,这样才能写出地道的文章。但是我们同学们受母语的影响,许多文章的句式都采用中文的写作形式,这种“中式写作”未免让人读起来有种不伦不类的感觉。 二、英语阅读对写作的重要作用 阅读是我们在精心的学习一篇文章,我们除了要弄懂词汇的含义,还要对其文章结构、句式、极其作者情感的表现技巧等进行全方位的剖析。在新课标的实施背景下,我们接触的阅读尽可能与原版美文相契合,这种“接地气”的阅读形式,能让在我们学习到原汁原味的英语同时还能够了解当地的文化气息。阅读是语言的输入,写作则是语言的输出,我们只有在输入环节提升质量,我们才能自然地写出优美的文章。 三、阅读背景下的写作学习方法 高中英语阅读是丰富多彩的,除了课文教师讲解的文章外,我们在做题和课下阅读过程
