What is the chief concern of native high-skilled, better-educated employees about the inflow of immigrants? (2011.6., cet6)

Among high-skilled, better-educated employees, however, opposition was strongest in states with both high numbers of immigrants and relatively generous social services. What worried them most, in other words, was the fiscal (财政的)burden of immigration.

Throughout this long, tense election, everyone has focused on the presidential candidates and how they’ll change America. Rightly so. But selfishly, I’m more fascinated by Michelle Obama and what she might be able to do, not just for this country, but for me as an African-American woman. As the potential First Lady, she would have the world’s attention. And that means that for the first time people will have a chance to get up close and personal with the type of African-American woman they so rarely see.

57. Why does Michelle Obama hold a strong fascination for the author?

A. She serves as a role model for African women.

B. She possesses many admirable qualities becoming a First Lady.

C. She will present to the world a new image of African-American women.

D. She will pay closer attention to the interests of African-American women.

As we have seen, the focus of medical care in our society has been shifting from curing disease to preventing disease ——especially in terms of changing our many unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, smoking, and failure to exercise. The line of thought involved in this shift can be pursued further. Imagine a person who is about the right weight ,but does not eat very nutritious(有营养的)foods, who feels OK but exercises only occasionally, who goes to work every day,but is not an outstanding worker, who drinks a few beers at home most nights but does not drive while drunk ,and who has no chest pains or abnormal blood counts, but sleeps a lot and often feels tired. This person is not ill. He may not even be at risk for any particular disease. But we can imagine that this person could be a lot healthier.

The field of medicine has not traditionally distinguished between someone who is merely not ill and someone who is in excellent health and pays attention to the body’s special needs. Both types have simply been called well. In recent years, however, some health specialists have begun to apply the terms well and wellness only to those who are actively striving to maintain and improve their health. People who are well are concerned with nutrition and exercise and they make a point of

monitoring their body‘s condition. Most important, perhaps, people who are well take active responsibility for all matters related to their health. Even people who have a physical disease or handicap (缺陷)may be well,in this new sense,if they make an effort to maintain the best possible health they can in the face of their physical limitations. Wellness may perhaps best be viewed not as a state that people can achieve, but as an ideal that people can strive for. People who are well are likely to be better able to resist disease and to fight disease when it strikes. And by focusing attention on healthy ways of living, the concept of wellness can have a beneficial impact on the ways in which people face the challenges of daily life.

1. Today medical care is placing more stress on______.

A. keeping people in a healthy physical condition

B. monitoring patients ‘body functions

C. removing people‘s bad living habits

D. ensuring people‘s psychological well-being

2. Traditionally,a person is considered “well” if he ______.

A. does not have any unhealthy living habits

B. does not have any physical handicaps

C. is able to handle his daily routines

D. is free from any kind of disease

1. 题干中的medical care is placing more stress on和原文第一段中的the focus of medical care细节一致。

As we have seen, the focus of medical care in our society has been shifting from curing disease to preventing disease ——especially in terms of changing our many unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, smoking, and failure to exercise.

The field of medicine has not traditionally distinguished between someone who is merely not ill and someone who is in excellent health and pays attention to the body’s special needs.

即要理解excellent health:非常健康,与free from any kind of disease“远离任何疾病”是同一个意思。

suggest,imply,indicate,conclude,infer,learn from等。

We can infer / assume that…

It can be concluded from the passage that…

The author of the passage would most likely imply…

The passage suggests that…

It can be learned that…

At the heart of the debate over illegal immigration lies one key question: are immigrants good or bad for the economy? The American public overwhelmingly thinks they're bad. Yet the consensus among most economists is that immigration,

both legal and illegal, provides a small net boost to the economy. Immigrants provide cheap labor, lower the prices of everything from farm produce to new homes, and leave consumers with a little more money in their pockets. So why is there such a discrepancy between the perception of immigrants' impact on the economy and the reality? (2011.6, cet6)

52. What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A. Whether immigrants are good or bad for the economy has been puzzling economists.

B. The American economy used to thrive on immigration but now it's a different story.

C. The consensus among economists is that immigration should not be encouraged.

D. The general public thinks differently from most economists on the impact of immigration.

Some analysts(分析师) are less sure. Among consumers, only 18%are even aware that ecofashion exists, up from 6% four years ago. Natalie Hormilla, a fashion writer, is an example of the unconverted consumer. When asked if she owned any

sustainable clothes, she replied : “Not that I’m aware of .” Like most consumers, she finds little time to shop, and when she does, she’s on the hunt for “cute stuff that isn’t too expensive.” By her own admission, green just isn’t yet on her mind. But –thanks to the combined efforts of designers, retailers and suppliers –one day it will be. (2009.6, cet4)

61. What does the author think of green fashion?

A. Green products will soon go mainstream.

B. It has a very promising future.

C. Consumers have the final say.

D. It will appeal more to young people.

There are few more sobering online activities than entering data into college-tuition calculators and gasping as the Web spits back a six-figure sum. But economists say families about to go into debt to fund four years of partying, as well

as studying, can console themselves with the knowledge that college is an investment that, unlike many bank stocks, should yield huge dividends.

A 2008 study by two Harvard economists notes that the “labor-market premium to skill”—or the amount college graduates earned that’s greater than what high-school graduate earned—decreased for much of the 20th century, but has come back with a vengeance (报复性地) since the 1980s. In 2005, The typical full-time year-round U.S. worker with a four-year college degree earned $50,900, 62% more than the $31,500 earned by a worker with only a high-school diploma.

There’s no question that going to college is a smart economic choice. But a look at the strange variations in tuition reveals that the choice about which college to attend doesn’t come down merely to dollars and cents. Does going to Columbia University (tuition, room and board $49,260 in 2007-08) yield a 40% greater return than attending the University of Colorado at Boulder as an out-of-state student ($35,542)? Probably not. Does being an out-of-state student at the University of Colorado at Boulder yield twice the amount of income as being an in-state student ($17,380) there? Not likely.

No, in this consumerist age, most buyers aren’t evaluating college as an investment, but rather as a consumer product—like a car or clothes or a house. And with such purchases, price is only one of many crucial factors to consider.

As with automobiles, consumers in today’s college marketplace have vast choices, and people search for the one that gives them the most comfort and satisfaction in line with their budgets. This accounts for the willingness of people to

pay more for different types of experiences (such as attending a private liberal-arts college or going to an out-of-state public school that has a great marine-biology program). And just as two auto purchasers might spend an equal amount of money on very different cars, college students (or, more accurately, their parents) often show a willingness to pay essentially the same price for vastly different products. So which is it? Is college an investment product like a stock or a consumer product like a car? In keeping with the automotive world’s hottest consumer trend, maybe it’s best to characterize it as a hybrid (混合动力汽车); an expensive consumer product that, over time, will pay rich dividends.

What is the chief consideration when students choose a college today?

A.Their employment prospects after graduation.

B.A satisfying experience within their budgets.

C.Its facilities and learning environment.

D.Its ranking among similar institutions.

As with automobiles, consumers in today’s college marketplace have vast choices, and people search for the one that gives them the most comfort and satisfaction in line with their budgets. This accounts for the willingness of people to pay more for different types of experiences (such as attending a private liberal-arts college or going to an out-of-state public school

that has a great marine-biology program).

The author’s concern about sth is__________.

According to the passage, sth is

According to the author, sth is __________.

A. 在开头出现;

B. 在结尾出现;

C. 在开头和结尾同时出现,首尾呼应;

We have learned much about the foolish idea of excluding people on the presumption of the ethnic/racial inferiority. But what we have not yet learned is how to make the process of Americanization work for all. I am not talking about requiring people to learn English or to adopt American ways; those things happen pretty much on their own. But as arguments about immigration hear up the campaign trail, we also ought to ask some broader question about assimilation, about how to ensure that people , once outsiders , don’t forever remain marginalized within these shores.(cet6, 2008.12)

According to the author, the burning issue concerning immigration is_______. A. how to deal with people entering the U.S. without documents

B. how to help immigrants to better fit into American society

C. how to stop illegal immigrants from crossing the border

D. how to limit the number of immigrants to enter the U.S.

Crippling health care bills, long emergency-room waits and the inability to find a primary care physician just scratch the surface of the problems that patients face daily.

Primary care should be the backbone of any health care system. Countries with appropriate primary care resources score highly when it comes to health outcomes and cost. The U.S. takes the opposite approach by emphasizing the specialist rather

than the primary care physician.

A recent study analyzed the providers who treat Medicare beneficiaries(老年医保受惠人). The startling finding was that the average Medicare patient saw a total of seven doctors—two primary care physicians and five specialists—in a given year. Contrary to popular belief, the more physicians taking care of you don’t guarantee better care. Actually, increasing fragmentation of care results in a corresponding rise in cost and medical errors.

How did we let primary care slip so far? The key is how doctors are paid. Most physicians are paid whenever they perform a medical service. The more a physician does, regardless of quality or outcome, the better he’s reimbursed Moreover, the amount a physician receives leans heavily toward medical or surgical procedures. A specialist who performs a procedure in a 30-minute visit can be paid three times more than a primary care physician using that same 30 minutes to discuss a patient’s disease. Combine this fact with annual government threats to indiscriminately cut reimbursements, physicians are faced with no choice but to increase quantity to boost income.

Primary care physicians who refuse to compromise quality are either driven out of business or to cash-only practices, further contributing to the decline of primary care.

Medical students are not blind to this scenario. They see how heavily the reimbursement deck is stacked against primary care. The recent numbers show that since 1997, newly graduated U.S. medical students who choose primary care as a

career have declined by 50%. This trend results in emergency rooms being overwhelmed with patients without regular doctors.

How do we fix this problem?

It starts with reforming the physician reimbursement system. Remove the pressure for primary care physicians to squeeze in more patients per hour, and reward them for optimally (最佳地) managing their diseases and practicing evidence-based medicine. Make primary care more attractive to medical students by forgiving student loans for those who choose primary care as a career and reconciling the marked difference between specialist and primary care physician salaries.

We’re at a point where primary care is needed more than ever. Within a few years, the first wave of the 76 million Baby Boomers will become eligible for Medicare. Patients older than 85, who need chronic care most, will rise by 50% this decade.

Who will be there to treat them?

The author’s chief concern about the current U.S. health care system is __________.

A. the inadequate training of physicians

B. the declining number of doctors

C. the shrinking primary care resources

D. the ever-rising health care costs

A. doubtful

B. critical

C. cautious

D. supportive

I am not so naive ,however ,as to believe that sex is responsible for this unfortunate situation of the American woman. I am not a feminist, but I am an individualist. I do not believe there is any important difference between men and women, certainly not as much as there may be between one woman and another or one man and an-other. There are plenty of women and men, for that matter who would be completely fulfilled in being allowed to be as lazy as possible. If someone will ensconce them in a pleasant home and pay their bills, they ask no more of life. It is quite all right for these men and women to live thus so long as fools can be found who will pay so much for nothing much in return. Gigolos, male and female, are to be found in every class and in the best of homes. But when a man does not want to be a gigolo, he has the freedom to go out and work and create as well as he can. But a woman has not. Even if her individual husband lets her, tradition in society is against her.

In this passage the author looks on the situation of women with an attitude of __________.

A. approval

B. indifference

C. disapproval

D. biased

It’s an annual argument. Do we or do we not go on holiday? My partner says no because the boiler could go, or the roof fall off, and we have no savings to save us. I say you only live once and we work hard and what’s the point if you can’t go on holiday. The joy of a recession means no argument next year—we just won’t go.

Since money is known to be one of the things most likely to bring a relationship to its knees, we should be grateful. For many families the recession means more than not booking a holiday. A Gov poll of 2,000 people found 22% said they were arguing more with their partners because of concerns about money. What’s less clear is whether divorce and separation rates rise in a recession—financial pressures mean couples argue more but make splitting up less affordable.

A recent research shows arguments about money were especially damaging to couples. Disputes were characterised by intense verbal(言语上的) aggression, tended to be repeated and not resolved, and made men, more than women, extremely angry. (cet4,2011.12)

4. A) Visiting the Browning. B) Writing a postcard. C) Looking for a postcard. D) Filling in a form. 4. M: What's the matter? You've been sitting there for ages, just staring into space. W: I told the Browning I'd send them a postcard. Now I don't know what to say. Q: What's the woman doing?

6. A) She can't finish her assignment, either. B) She can't afford a computer right now. C) The man can use her computer. D) The man should buy a computer right away. 6. M: I'm frustrated. We're supposed to do our assignment on the computer, but I have difficulty getting access to the computers in the library. W: I understand the way you feel. I'm looking forward to the day when I can afford to get my own. Q: What does the woman mean?

(一)答案项中有绝对语气词的一般不是正确答案项 这些语气词有:must, always, never, the most, all, only, have to,any,no,very, completely, none, hardly等。 例(1) One of the great changes brought about by the knowledge society is that _____ .(1995年6月六级题22) A. the difference between the employee and the employer has become insignificant. B. people’s traditional concepts about work no longer hold true. C. most people have to take part-time jobs. D. people have to change their jobs from time to time. (2)The main idea of this passage is that _____ .(1991年6月六级题40) A.better use of green space facilities should be made so as to improve the quality of our life. B. attention must be directed to the improvement of recreative possibilities. C. the urban environment is providing more recreation activities than it did many years ago. D. priority must be given to the development of obligatory activities. (二)选项中含有不十分肯定的语气词一般是正确答案项 这些语气词有:can, could, may, should, usually, might, most(大多数),more or less, relatively,be likely to,possible, whether or,not necessarily 等。 例(1)It can be inferred from the passage that the author believes .(1999年6月四级题30) A.Americans are more ambitious than people in other countries B. in many countries success often depends on one’s social status C. 四六级仔细阅读答题技巧 四六级考试阅读总占比为35%,其中仔细阅读就占了20%,其重要性可想而,但要在8-10分钟内做完五道题,对于基础薄弱的同学们,还是有些难度的,所以需要掌握一定的技巧和方法! 如2005年1月份考题:“Free play has been introduced in some Japanese kindergartens in order to”, 本题通过“free play”,“some Japanese kindergartens”反映了原文考查对象,题干内容比较具体,属于细节分析。 又如2005年6月份出现的题目:“What did the handball player do when he was not allowed a

Engineering students are supposed to be example of practicality and rationality, but when it comes to my college education I am an idealist and a fool.

In high school I wanted to be ……,but I didn't chose a college with a large e ngineering department. I chose to study engineering at a small liberal-arts university for a broad educa tion. I headed off for sure that I was going to have an advantage over others. Now I am not so sure. …… I have learned the reasons why few engineering students try to reconcile engineering with liberal-arts courses in college. I have realized that the struggle to reconcile the study of engineering and liber al-arts is difficult.

The author’s attitude towards ┄is _____. 或者是What is the author’s attitude towards _______? 2、态度题解题方法 从原则上来讲,态度题可以考查作者对一个中心话题的看法,也可以考查作者对某一具体细节的态度,但是从历年考法来看,四级阅读更加注重考查文章中心话题。 It’s no secret that many children would be healthier and happier with adoptive parents than with the parents that nature dealt them. 题目:The author’s attitude towards the judge’s ruling could be described as______. A) doubtful B) critical C) cautious D) supportive

表示绝对含义的常见词汇:must,always,never,the most(最高级), all,only,any,none,sole,entirely,every,absolutely,totally等。 表示相对含义的常见词汇:can,could,may,usually,might,most(大多数),more or less,relatively,nearly,possibly,not enough,suggest,seem等。还有“部分”含义的词汇,也经常作为答案出现,如 part,partial,some(someone,somebody,sometime,something,certain[一定程度上])等。

以下是4级历年真题选词填空中出现频率最高的后缀:名词后缀:tion/sion/ness/ment/er/or/ist/ism 形容词后缀:able/al/ant/ent/tive/sive/ous/less/ed/ing 动词后缀:ate/lize/ing/ed 副词后缀:ly/ward/wise 在历年真题中只要出现ly一定为副

We can infer / assume that… It can be concluded from the passage that… The author of the passage would most likely imply… The passage suggests that… It c an be learned that…

At the heart of the debate over illegal immigration lies one key question: are immigrants good or bad for the economy? The American public overwhelmingly thinks they're bad. Yet the consensus among most economists is that immigration, both legal and illegal, provides a small net boost to the economy.Immigrants provide cheap labor, lower the prices of everything from farm produce to new homes, and leave consumers with a little more money in their pockets. So why is there such a discrepancy between the perception of immigrants' impact on the economy and the reality? (2011.6, cet6) 52. 例2:(题干不明示型) Some analysts(分析师) are less sure. Among consumers, only 18%are even aware that ecofashion exists, up from 6% four years ago. Natalie Hormilla, a fashion writer, is an example of the unconverted consumer. When asked if she owned any sustainable clothes, she replied : ―Not that I’m aware of .‖ Like most consumers, she finds little time to shop, and when she does, she’s on the hunt for ―cute stuff that isn’t too expensive.‖ By her own admission, green just isn’t yet on her mind. But –thanks to the combined efforts of designers, retailers and suppliers –one day it will be. (2009.6, cet4)

B. people's traditional concepts about work no longer hold true. C. most people have to take part-time jobs. D. people have to change their jobs from time to time. (2) The main idea of this passage is that _____ .(1991年6月六级题40) A. better use of green space facilities should be made so as to improve the quality of our life. B. attention must be directed to the improvement of recreative possibilities.
