As the last sister was leaving the bus , driver John Coley, 62, of Wayland, Steuben County, told police that he was not paying attention when he closed the door and trapped her backpack inside. Coley then continued 900 feet before he realized the girl was being dragged, State Police said.

I am often told how I have a dream job, that I work for a great company, getting to deal with the leaders in social media every day, and especially that I get to work from my home. Usually the people who tell me that working from home is wonderful have never worked from home. They

spend most of their career working from an office and hate it.

In fact, I love being able to work from home and make my own hours.

I truly appreciate being able to drop what I am doing to attend kids or go shopping, but there is a side to it we do n’t often talk about, the hard side. No one wants to believe people like me, working from home, have anything to complain about. Really, I am not going to complain, but I do want to share a few things about telecommuting(远程办公) that few home –based people want to tell you, because working from home doesn’t look wonderful.

One of the reasons I love my job is the flexibility. I know that I can volunteer for school projects, meet friends for lunch and work out for an hour as long as I get my work done. But did you know telecommuters have to make up the time if they wish to pepper their days with fun distractions So while my husband and kids are watching a movie, I am working until midnight. Besides, when you work from home, you are held to your phone and Skype(网络电话) in case someone wants to talk to you during business hours. So it’s not so easy to be flexible!

59. We learn from the passage that the writer___.

A. is quite satisfied with her present work

B. can balance her work and family life well

60. The last paragraph mainly tells us that____.

A. you are usually a slave to yourself

B. you are not as flexible as you think you are

C. the writer can always make full use of the freedom

D. the writer is always busy with her work

61 The writer probably agrees that _____.

A. east or west, home-working is the best

B. freedom should always come before work

C. get work done, or you’ll have no freedom

D. all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

62. Who is the passage mainly intended for

A. Office workers

B. Telecommuters

C. Job hunters

D. Researchers

We’re here today to discuss our new marketing approach. It seems to me the most important question is not whether we market to teens, but how we do so. There are about 31 million teenagers in the United States at present, and that number is projected to increase to about 35 million by 2012. Industry research indicates that last year teens spent roughly 150 billion dollars of their own money.

As shareholders(股东),we have invested in this company with the primary purpose of making money on our investment(投资).If we do not face the realities of to day’s marketing environment, an environment that must include teenagers, we will be threatening our investment. We cannot afford not to aggressively market to teens, and that includes marketing in schools.

Now most direct marketing to teens occurs through television, magazines, the Internet, and radio advertising. Indirect marketing also plays a large role in selling products to teens. Teenagers, arguably more than any other group, pay attention to what their peers wear, what kind of music they listen to, and what they eat and drink. Teenagers indirectly market products primarily while at school. Since teens spend much of their time at school, this seems to me to be a logical spot to directly market our juices.

I realize that many of you are concerned about the possibility of combining commercialism with education. Many of you believe that classrooms should be used purely for education and be free of influences from the outside world. As I stated before, influence from the outside already has a strong presence in the classroom as a result of indirect marketing. In addition, our juices are all natural, provide 100 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamins C and A, and contain no refined sugar. Our juices may actually promote learning by giving students more energy.

Finally, our marketing plan includes a financial commitment to schools in exchange for space in their vending machines. Schools will receive a percentage of the profit on every can or bottle of juice sold in the school. School administrators can then use the money to fund existing education and career opportunities for students or create new ones. This plan will benefit the schools, increase our profits, and improve people’s view of our company. To me there are no negative aspects of this plan, and I think we are wasting valuable time and money with any further debate on this matter.

63. Why did the speaker put money in the juice company

A. To learn how to make juice.

B. To earn money on an investment.

C. To apply for a job at the company.

D. To help schools develop new programs.

64. Talking about commercialism in schools, what does the speaker suggest

A. Schools should be free of commercialism.

B. Schools are only a small part of the teen market.

C. Schools already have extensive marketing activities.

D. Schools would likely not be open to marketing products.65. In order to persuade the listeners, the speaker refers to _______.

A. the money spent on teen marketing campaigns

B. the money spent by schools to educate students

C. the average number of teens per family in the U.S.A

D. the number of teens in the U.S.A and how much money they spend

66. Talking about his marketing plan, what does the speaker imply

A. Investors are primarily concerned with non-profit business.

B. Investors can make a profit without marketing to teens in schools.

C. Investors will lose money if the company does not market in schools.

D. Investors want to achieve a balance between profits and general ideas.

67. Based on information presented by the speaker, which of these is an example of “indirect marketing”

A. The menu prepared by school cafeteria staff.

B. A student wearing a famous rock band’s T-shirt.

C. An announcement by the principal for a public meeting.

D. Instructions for completing a research paper given by a teacher.

D

Several recent studies have found that being randomly assigned to a roommate of another race can lead to increased tolerance but also to a greater possibility of conflict.

Recent reports found that living with a student of a different race might decrease prejudice and force students to engage in more racially diverse friendships.

An Ohio State University study also found that black students living with a white roommate saw higher academic success throughout their college careers. Researchers believe this may be caused by social pressure.

In a New York Times article, Sam Boakye---the only black student on his freshman year floor---said that “if you’re surrounded by whites, you have something to prove.”

Researchers also observed problems resulting from pairing interracial students in residences.

According to two recent studies, randomly assigned roommates of different races are more likely to experience conflicts that one roommate will move out.

An Indiana University study found that interracial roommates were three times as likely as two white roommates to no longer live together by the end of the semester.

Grace Kao, a professor at Penn said she was not surprised by the findings. “This may be the first time that some of these students have interacted, and lived, with someone of a different race,”she said.

At Penn, students are not asked to indicate race when applying for housing.

“One of the great things about freshman housing is that, with some exceptions, the process throws you together randomly,” said Undergraduate Assembly chairman Alec Webley.

“I’ve experienced roommate conflicts between interracial students that have both broken down stereotypes and reinforced stereotypes,” said one Penn resident advisor (RA). The RA of two years added that while some conflicts “provided more multicultural acceptance and melding(融合)” ,there were also “jarring cultural conflicts”.

The RA said that these conflicts have also occurred among roommates of the same race.

Kao said she was against forming any generalizations based on any

one of the studies, noting that more background characteristics of the students need to be studied and explained.

68. What can we learn from some recent studies

A. Conflicts between students of different races are unavoidable.

B. Students of different races are prejudiced against each other.

C. Interracial living does more harm than good.

D. Interracial living may have diverse outcomes.

69. What does Sam Boakye’s remark mean

A. White peers motivate a black student to work harder.

B. Black students feel embarrassed among white peers.

C. White students tend to look down upon their black peers.

D. Black students can compete with their white peers academically.

70. What does Grace Kao say about interracial living

A. Experienced resident advisors should be sent to handle the problems.

B. It is unscientific to make a conclusion without further studies.

C. Students’ racial background is not necessarily considered.

D. Schools should be cautious about student living. 第二节:根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

范文:

The Autumn Sports Meeting was successfully carried out in our school.

After we got the arrangement of the sports meeting, we immediately held a class meeting. Our monitor called us on to take an active part in the sports meeting. All of us listened earnestly and then signed up for the sports actively. ?

After class, our classmates trained for the sports meeting hard. Some of us practiced running, some of us practiced long jumping while the rest were busy practicing the drill formation so that we could perform perfectly at the opening of the Autumn Sports Meeting.

Eventually, the big day on which the Sports Meeting was held came. On that day, the competition was quite fierce and intense. Every student on the grandstand was yelling and cheering for our classmates who were competing.

When the sports meeting came to an end, our class managed to win the first prize for the group award by making enormous efforts. We were all so excited about it and hoped that we could make great progress next time.
