Passage A

(来自2016中考英语模拟)阅读下面短文或图表,并选择正确答案。

Do you know why different animals or pests have their special colours? Colours in them seem to be used mainly to protect themselves.

Some birds like eating locusts, but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colours together with the change of the colours of crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comes, locusts change to the same brown colour as crops have. Some other pests with different colours from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night.

If you study the animal life, you’ll find the main use of colouring is protecting themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be seen by hunters. This is because they have the colours much like the tree.

Have you ever noticed an even more strange act? A kind of fish in the sea can send out a kind of very black liquid when it faces danger. While the liquid spread over, the enemies cannot find it. And it immediately swims away. So it has lived up to now though it isn’t strong at all.

We spent a day in the country and picked a lot of flowers. Our car was full of flowers inside! On the way home we had to stop at traffic lights, and there my wife saw the bookshelf.

It stood outside a furniture(家具)shop. “Buy it,” she said at once. “We’ll carry it home on the roof-rack(车顶架). I’ve always wanted one like that.”

What could I do? Ten minutes later I was twenty dollars poorer, and the bookshelf was tied on to the roof rack. It was tall and narrow, quite heavy too.

As it was getting darker, I drove slowly. Other drivers seemed more polite than usual that evening. The police even stopped traffic to let us through. Carrying furniture was a good idea.

“Right, sir,” he said. “Do you need any more help now?”

I didn’t quite understand. “Thanks, officer,” I said. “You’ve been very kind.

I live just down the road.”

He was looking at our things: first at the flowers, t hen at the bookshelf. “Well, well,” he said and laughed. “It’s a bookshelf you’ve got there! We thought it was ——er, something else.”

Everyone in the club shared the same hobby—fitting together computer parts .The members of Homebrew differed in their levels for skill and experience. Some worked for computer companies .Some had just graduated from high school, and some just loved playing with electronics .They were all excited about the possibiliti es of the personal computer.____________After six months the group grew 100 members. Meetings were held in a spirit of fun and discovery .The people in the group didn’t care about making money. They just wanted to share their ideas—and computers parts—freely. They hoped that their dream of making low cost home computers would come true for common people. Without being prevented by the group’s fun-loving nature, many members went on to achieve great things. One of the youngest, Bob Lash, w ent on to invent several electronic medical machines. Another member, John Draper, developed one of the first word–processing programs. Somewhat in the Homebrew crowd sat perhaps its most famous member, Steve Wozniak. The young engineer seldom spoke during meetings .But when he first shared his idea for the Apple I computer, everyone paid attention. This computer helped point the way toward the future of low-cost, personal computers. And, of course, it resulted in Wozniak forming a partnership with the talented Steve Jobs. Although the Homebrew Computer Club stopped meeting in 1986, its influence lives on .Thanks to the Homebrew Computer Club, a great number of people today enjoy the convenience of personal computers.

(英语)中考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案

(英语)中考英语阅读理解专项训练及答案 一、英语阅读(日常生活类) 1.阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳答案。 If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer. 5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time? A. Beijing. B. Shanghai. C. Shenzhen. (2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?. A. 5G is widely used in China now. B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient. C. There are no symbols at the top of our phones. (3)The writer uses self-driving cars as an example to . A. explain how 5G's fast speed can be helpful B. warn about the possible dangers of self-driving cars C. explain how self-driving cars work (4)What is IoT according to the passage? A. A robot that can do housework. B. An online store where you can buy anything. C. A large online network that connects things and people. (5)Which sentence is right according to the passage? A. 5G will help us buy eggs quickly. B. Robots can help us buy eggs online. C. Our refrigerator can order eggs online for us. 【答案】(1)B

2016年中考英语话题阅读理解专项练习-饮食与健康(含答案) 2

A Healthy eating doesn't just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on healthy eating. Eat with others. It can help you to see others' healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with your parents, you will find that the food you eat is more delicious. Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full. Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After you don't eat for the past ten hours, your body needs food to get you going. You will be smarter after eating breakfast. Eat healthy snacks like fruits, yogurt or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it's a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals This doesn't mean that you can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal. Don't eat dinner late. With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8-10 hours. B You may not have heard the words "freshman fifteen" before, but they are important for students who are entering university. A freshman is a first-year college student. "Fifteen" means fifteen pounds—the fifteen pounds added to a student's weight in his or her first year. There are a number of reasons why first-year university students gain(获得) weight; but it's encouraging to know that freshman don't have to add these harmful(有害的) fifteen pounds. Mistakes choosing food University kitchens serve many kinds of food. Some students choose unhealthy food, because now their parents are not nearby(在?边) to help them choose. Some students visit the kitchen many times while studying. Late at night, some students get harmful fast food such as hamburgers. Students also have less time for walking, running, and doing sports because of their schoolwork. Eating right If you're careful, you don't have to add fifteen pounds. Here are some ideas. ● Think more about what you eat. ● Eat plenty of vegetables and healthy meat. ●Don't eat desserts(甜点) full of sugar; have fruit after dinner. ●Try not to eat so much junk food (垃圾?品) while you study. ● It's all right to have a little fast food sometimes—but not often. ● Write down the food you eat. ● Walk, run, do sports—Move and you will feel better! Remember that the "freshman fifteen" can happen to anyone. Talk to your friends about it. Together, try to eat healthy food and not eat junk food. Walking, running, and playing sports is always more fun with friends. Help each other and you can have a healthy and happy freshman year.
