To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.

______79._____ Try the following steps:

Calm yourself. _____80.______ You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.

Don’t wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. ____81._____ Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

____82._____ If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender’s point of view.

Don’t forget to forgive yourself. _____83._____ But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don’t do it.

A.Why should you forgive?

B.How should you start to forgive?

C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.

D.Try to see things from your offender’s an gle.

E.For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.

F.To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.

G.If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

It often seems that people have a hard time in speaking a seemingly familiar name. Did you ever have someone's name on the tip of your tongue and yet you were not able to recall it? When this happened, what did you do? Next time this happens again, what should you do?

You should not try to recall it. Instead, just do something else for a couple of minutes and then the name may come into your head. Why? The name is just there, since you have met this person and learned his name. It, waiting there, only has to be dug out. The initial(最初的) effort to recall prepares the mind for operation, but it is the subconscious (下意识的) activities that go to work to dig up a dim(模糊的)memory. Forcing yourself to recall almost never helps because it doesn't loosen your memory; it only tightens it.

That’s why s tudents find the preparatory method greatly helpful in examinations. They read over the questions before trying to answer any of them. Then they answer first the ones of which they are most confident. At the same time, deeper mental activities in the subconscious mind are taking place; work is being done on the more difficult questions. By the time the easier questions are

answered, answers to the more difficult ones will usually begin to come into consciousness. It is often just a question of waiting for recall to come to the memory.

You see, forcing ourselves to think hard to recall something usually doesn’t help. Chances are that the harder we think, the more difficulty we face in thinking of what we want to. Offering our mind time to work is what we are expected to do.

下面文章中有5处需要添加小标题,请从以下选项中选出符合各段意思的小标题,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑,选项中一项为多余选项。

A.Option of home schooling is around for a long time

B.Recent years’ growth of home schooling

C.The unpleasant situation of school education

D.Advantages in home schooling

E.Parents should be responsible for child’s education

F.Home schooling is not a perfect choice

94.Home schooling is an option that is becoming more attractive to parents as time goes on. Schools have become increasingly unstable over the past couple of decades. The textbooks are outdated, violence is common, children are shot without mercy, and the quality of education on the whole has greatly diminished.

95.The option of home schooling has been around for a long time; however, until recently it had not been so popular. The idea of home schooling seems like a cure-all to many parents due to the advantages this type of education provides over traditional schools.

96.Children who are home schooled can avoid many of the problems schools have become known for. For one, the environment is less threatening. Children can learn without fearing other students. In addition, home schooling allows parents to dictate the academic course of their children. Home schooling also allows students to proceed at their own speed. If a child is weak at multiplication and division, a parent can focus lessons on those skills in favor of another skill that the child might understand rather easily.

97.It may sound like the perfect option, but there are many disadvantages of home schooling. First of all, home schooled children are usually less socialized. While schools can sometimes be the breeding ground for poor social behaviors, school is also a place where students learn to interact

with others and build social skills. In addition, another drawback to home schooling could be implementation of an educational plan. Many parents are not qualified as teachers and may not understand what is necessary to ensure a child has access to the proper curriculum.

98.Finally, another disadvantage to home schooling is the necessity for parents to take full responsibility for their child’s education. If you choose to home school your child, there is no one for you to blame if your child does poorly. The responsibility falls completely on the parent.

Advertising is a highly developed twentieth-century industry. The development of radio, television, cinema, magazines and newspapers has gone hand in hand with the development of advertising. Why is advertising so popular? Is it a waste of money? It has been proved again and again that repeated advertising increases product sales.Since it increases production, the price can be reduced. Therefore advertising, instead of making a product more expensive, makes it cheaper.

105.______________________

What can you advertise ? You can advertise products of all kinds, such as shoes or umbrellas, or services like car repairs and travel. In Europe and USA political leaders often use recorded TV advertisements to persuade people to vote for them.Besides broadcast advertisements on radio and TV, there are other ways to advertise : cinemas, magazines and newspapers, for example.Large boards can be used for printed posters, especially near main roads.A sign outside or inside a shop is a form of advertising.Balloons and light planes can be used to pull huge signs as they fly slowly over a city.

106.________________

108._________________

Dear friends,

As we can see, the environment around us is getting worse other than better. Our life and health have affected greatly. The earth is our home, but we have a duty to take care of it, not only for ourselves but for future generation. Fortunate, more and more people have become aware of this problem. Many effective measures have been taken by the government to dealing with them.

As a student I think we should do something to improve the environment. First, go to the school on foot or by bike as often as possible. Second, turn on the lights and other electrical appliances before leaving the room. Third, never throw rubbish here and there.

It’s time that we do something to protec t our environment.

When I was young, I lived in a place where had a lot of trees, many rivers, and was near a big lake. We had a large house with a garden and lots of grasses. My brothers and sisters and I played outside whenever we could in my own yard, in our neighbors’ ya rds, and in the empty yards down the street. We ride bikes and played ballgames with friends. But I always thought that there was something missing in my environment, as wonderfully as it was. I liked going to the big lake the most. Even there, though, I felt I needed anything more. The lake was big, and you could still see land on the other side.

One day, my family took trip to New York City. As we drove on the freeway, I looked out the window at the ocean. For as far as I could see, there was no land on the other side. I rolled down the window and heard from the sounds of the sea birds. They seemed to call me, tell me I would never be able to live away from the sea again.

In recent years, more and more parents send their children to famous schools, thought it can ensure that their children can be admitted by better universities after graduation.

It is true that famous schools are furnishing with better teaching facilities. What's more, teachers are excellent, that come from all over the country and even abroad. They have the ability make classes more lively and interesting, so students will be able to accept knowledge better. Besides, not every student is fit to go to famous schools where there is a fierce competition among students. And students there have to work much harder than that in ordinary schools.

I suggest effective measures are taken to make sure all the schools provide equal good education. Only in this way can all the students have equal rights to receive quality education.

五、阅读理解

As any homemaker who has tried to keep order at the dinner table knows, there is far more to a family meal than food. Sociologist Michael Lewis has been studying 50 families to find out just how much more.

Lewis and his co-workers carried out their study by videotaping(录像) the families while they ate ordinary meals in their own homes. They found that parents with small families talk actively with each other and their children. But as the number of children gets larger, conversation gives way to the parents’ efforts to control the loud noise they make. That can have an important effect on the children. “In general the more question-asking the parents do, the higher the children’s IQ scores,” Lewis says. “And the more children there are, the less question-aski ng there is.”

The study also provides an explanation for why middle children often seem to have a harder time in life than their siblings(兄弟姐妹). Lewis found that in families with three or four children, dinner conversation is likely to center on the oldest child, who has the most to talk about, and the youngest, who needs the most attention. “Middle children are invisible,” says Lewis. “When you see someone get up from the table and walk around during dinner, chances are it’s the middle child.” There is, ho wever, one thing that stops all conversation and prevents anyone from having attention “When the TV is on,” Lewis says, “dinner is a non-event.”

Generally speaking, there are four seasons across most of the country while the Top End (including Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu and Arnhem Land), Broome, the Kimberley and Tropical North Queensland experience a ‘wet season’ ( November to April) and a ‘dry season’ (May to October). It’s also important to remember that Australia’s seasons are at opposite times to those in the Northern Hemisphere (半球). So if you’re looking for an endless summer, just head Down Under as things start to cool off in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer in Australia falls between December and February and is famous for sunny days with high temperatures. It’s the wet season in the tropical north (November to April), which is characterised by monsoonal (季风) rains. Many tourism operations are closed for the season, so are some national parks (such as Kakadu) due to flood risks. The same period is also the official hurricane season for areas around Cairns, although storms can also occur outside of this period. For the ideal Australian summer, head to the southern parts of the country where you’ll find hot, sunny days to enjoy the unbelievable

A My wife Hilary andI were on the beach, with three of our children, taking pictures of shore birds near our home in Alaska when we saw a bear. The bear was thin and small, moving aimlessly. Just a few minutes later, I heard my daughter shouting, “Dad! The bear is right behind us!" An aggressive bear will usually rush forward to frighten away its enemy but would suddenly stop at the last minute. This one was silent and its ears pinned back the sign of an animal that is going in for the kill. And it was a cold April day. Thebear behaved abnormally, probably because of hunger. I held my camera tripod(三脚架)in both hands to form a barrier as the bear rushed into me. Its huge head was level with my chest and shoulders, and the tripod stuck across its mouth. It bit down and I found myself supporting its weight. I knew 1 would not be able to hold it for long. Even so, this was a fight I had to win: I was all that stood between the bear and my family, who would stand little chance of running faster than a brown bear. The bear hit at the camera, cutting it off the tripod. I raised my left arm to protect my face; the beast held tightly on the tripod and pressed it into my side. My arm could not move, and I sensed that my bones were going to break. Drawing back my free hand, I struck the bear as hard as I could for five to six times. The bear opened its mouth and I grasped its fur, trying to push it away. I was actually wrestling with the bear at this point. Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the fight ended. The bear moved back towards-the forest, before returning for another attack the first time I felt panic. Obviously satisfied that we caused no further threat, the bear moved off, destroying a fence as it went. My arm was injured, but the outcome for us could hardly have been better. I'm proud that my family remained clear-headed when panic could have led to a very different outcome. 1. How did the writer feel when faced with the brown bear? A. Fearful but confident. B. Nervous but brave. C. Upset but determined. D. Awful but hopeful.

A Bob and Sue Harvey spent nine years as resident fellows in a dormitory at Sanford and in their bookVirtual Reality and The College Freshman, they write “The Freshman oftenfaces an identity problem during the first semester.” College is a more pressured environment than it used to be, in part because the academic gap between high school and college has increased. Many college freshmen have never had to make independent decisions about sex, drugs and alcohol. Most don’t know how to manage their time or money. They often feel lonely and overwhelmed, resulting in anxiety and depression. Nancy Corbin, director of clinical service for student-counseling (咨询) services at Iowa State University, says her office is seeing a significant increase in requests for counseling from freshmen who are having trouble making the adjustment to college life. She says older teenagers increasingly lack the skills to deal with personal problems that aren’t easily defined or fixed. And they get homesick but have a hard time admitting it. Parents and high schools can make things easier on freshmen by preparing them differently. For example, by teaching them to budget their hours and dollars. The Harveys think high schools should offer a college-life course. “Parents need to focus more on relationship and personal issues and less on how many sheets and towels to take,” they say. Many homesick freshmen think they’ll be regarded as failures if they come home before Thanksgiving. So parents can help by letting them know they’re welcome to return if they feel the need. In the meantime, parents have to find new ways to keep in touch with their college kids. One of the best ways is e-mail. It’s less unpleasant and less expensive than constant phone calls and is more likely to be answered than a handwritten letter. 1. Why is the first semester difficult for freshmen in college? A. Because they often fail in exams. B. Because they lack time and money. C. Because they are too homesick to make new friends. D. Because they have to settle personal issues on their own. 2. In the last paragraph, it is suggested that ________. A. parents should stop buying anything for their kids
