I have never taken cooking classes. I learned cooking from my mother because she was really interested in teaching me how to cook. The main reason for this was because when my mother got married, she didn't know how to cook anything, not even an egg. My grandmother never allowed her to stay in the kitchen when she was cooking.

My mother did not start to cook until she was twenty-five years old. In the beginning, it was very hard for her. Therefore, she had to take cooking classes to prepare(准备)our meals. After having that experience, she decided to teach me how to cook because she didn't want me to have the same experience.

I remember when I was seven years old, I started to learn cooking from my mother. Sometimes we prepared the meals that my mother already knew how make, and sometimes we prepared meals from recipes. Thanks to that experience, now I don't need any help to cook a meal. I can cook for myself or for a group of people; it doesn't matter. I will do the same with my children because I don't want them to have the same experience as my mother. If one day I am not with them, I want to be sure that they can continue their life without me.

My parents taught me not to waste food. My mom always found ways to make leftovers (剩余食物) taste good. I went to Ilan to learn about some of their special foods. As I was there, I learned about the food and the history of the area.

Is there someone you hate? Well, maybe you don‘t really hate them. But you get really angry every time you think of them. If you don‘t let this anger go, it can turn into bitterness (痛苦).

Bitterness appears when we can‘t forgive (原谅) someone who has hurt us or made us angry. Someone might say or do something that hurts us. But instead of controlling the anger, we keep it deep inside. Before long, a bitter feeling begins to grow. We may think we‘re hurting that person by criticizing (指责) him or her often, but we‘re really only hurting ourselves.

Bitterness can not only lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, but also hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys being around an angry person for very long.

If you see bitterness in your life, here are some ways to deal with it.

● Accept it

Instead of trying to deny your anger, make it clear to yourself and accept it. See your anger for what it is and quickly deal with it.

● Stop making excuses for it

You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may think you‘re right and the other person is wrong. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look bad. But in the end, bitterness hurts you much more than the other person. The bitterness will hold you back, and the other person will go on with his or her life.

● Forgive and forget it

You probably can‘t completely put the anger out of your mind. But you can decide to forgive the other person. Forget it and move on. You‘ll enjoy better health and peace of mind.

B. hate the person who hurts us very often

One day when some government officials were rebuilding a barn(谷仓), they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to force the mice inside the hole to come out. A while later they indeed saw mice running out, one after another. Then, everyone thought that all the mice had escaped. But just as they began to clean up, they saw two mice squeezing(挤)out at the mouth of the hole. With some efforts, the mice finally got out. However, it was strange that after they came out of the hole, they did not run away immediately. Instead, one chased after the other near the mouth of the hole. It seemed that one was trying to bite(咬)the tail of the other.

Everyone was puzzled, so they stepped nearer to take a look. They realized that one of the mice was blind and could not see anything, and the other was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite on his tail so that he could pull the blind one with him to escape.

After seeing what happened, everyone was speechless and lost in thought. During the meal time, the group of people sat down in a circle and started to chat about what happened to the two mice.

One serious American official said: ―I think the relationship between those two mice was that of king and guard.‖ The others thought for a while and said, ―That was why!‖

A smart French said: ―I think the relationship between those two mice was that of husband and wife.‖ Again the others thought for a while, and all felt it made sense.

A Japanese said: ―I think the relationship between those two mice was that of mother and son.‖ Once again the others thought for a while, and felt this was more reasonable. So they expressed agreement another time.

At that moment, one Chinese asked, ―Why did those two mice have to have a certain relationship?‖

Suddenly, the group looked back at the Chinese and remained speechless. The American official, the French and the Japanese who had spoken earlier all lowered their heads in shame, and did not dare to answer.

These days, more and more students in the UK are taking a ―gap year‖ between their graduation from school and their university studies. This means that they take a year off, to do something else, before they start their studies.

For most students, spending time in foreign countries is the favorite activity —and Australia is the favorite place to go.

Many parents, teachers and business people agree that traveling can teach important values.

―After a year of traveling, I learnt the importance of r elationships with people, on all sorts of levels.‖

There are many companies around the world that welcome these students on their projects — helping people in poorer countries, or even in your home country. Finally, the knowledge and experience you get will one day be very useful in an area you hope to study or work in.
