Tell Me The Truth About Love

Some say that love's a little boy, And some say it's bird. Some say it makes the world go round, And some say that's absurd, And when I asked the man

next-door, Who looked as if he knew, His wife got very cross indeed, And said it wouldn't do. Does it look a pair of pyjamas, Or the ham in a temperance hotel? Does its odor remind one of llamas, Or has it a comforting smell? Is it sharp or quite smooth at the edges? Oh tell me the truth about love. When it comes, will it come without warning Just as I'm picking my nose? Will its knock on my door in the morning, Or tread in the bus on my toes? Will it come like a change in the weather? Will it greeting be courteous or rough? Will it alter my life altogether? Oh tell me the truth about love.

Think I Can

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don't;

If you want to win but think you can't;

It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;

For out of the world we find

Success begins with a fellow's will;

It's all in a state of mind.

Life's battles don't always go

To the stronger and faster man,

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the man who thinks he can.

I AM

I am

only one

but still I'm one

I can not do everything

but still I can do something

I will not refuse to do that something I can do Yesterday once more

Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing

Who can live without it, I ask in all honestly

What would life be?

Without a song or a dance, what are we?

So I say thank you for the music

For giving it to me

Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk

She says I began to sing long before I could talk

And I’ve often wondered, how did it all start?

Who found out that nothing can capture a heart

Like a melody can?

Well, whoever it was, I’m a fan

I’ve be so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair

I wanna sing it to everybody

What a joy, what a life, what a chance

The Sound of Music

The hills are alive with the sound of music,

With songs they have sung for a thousand years.

The hills fill my heart with the sound of music

My heart wants to sing every thing every song it hears. My heart wants to beat

Like the wings of the birds that rise

From the lake to the trees.

My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies

From a church on a breeze

To laugh like a brook when it trips

And falls over stones on its way.

To sing through the night

Like a lake who is learning to pray.

I go to the hills when my heat is lonely.

I know I will hear what I've heard before.

My heart will be blessed with the sound of music,

And I'll sing once more.

And Now You're Mine

And now you are mine.

Rest with your dream in my dream.

Love and pain and work should all sleep now.

The night turns on its invisible wheels,

And you are pure beside me as a sleeping amber.

No one else, love, will sleep in my dreams.

You will go, we will go together,

over the waters of time.

No one else will travel through the shadows with me. Only you, Evergreen, Ever sun, Ever moon.

Your hands have already opened their delicate fists And let their soft drifting sorrows drop away.

Your eyes close like two great wings, and I move. After, following the folding water

that you carry, that carries me away.

The night, the world, the wind spin out their destiny. Without you, I am your dream, only that, and that is all.

A Psalm of Life 人生礼颂

Herry Wadsworth Longfellow/

Tell me not in mournful numbers, 请别用哀伤的诗句对我讲;

Life is but an empty dream!

For the soul is dead that slumbers

And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!

And the grave is not its goal;人生的目标决不是坟墓;

Dust thou art , to dust returnest,

Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment , and not sorrow,

Is our destined and our way;也不是悲伤,

But to act, 实干

That much to-morrow.

Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long , and time is fleeting.

And our hearts , though stout and brave. Still , like muffled drums , are beating却像被布蒙住的铜鼓,

Funeral marches to the grave。

In the world’s broad field of battle,

In the bivouac of Life,在这辽阔的世界战场,

Be not like dumb,driven cattle!

Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no future.howe’er pleasant!

Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act,act in the living Present!

Let us,then,be up and doing,

With a heart for any fate;下定决心,不管遭遇怎样;

Still achieving,still pursuing

Learn to labour and to wait.

Lake of Autumn

I remember quite clearly now when the story happened.

The autumn leaves were floating in measure down to the ground, recovering the lake, where we used to swim like children, under the sun was there to shine. That time we used to be happy. Well, I thought we were.

But the truth was that you had been longing to leave me; not daring to tell me. On that precious night, watching the lake, vaguely conscious, you said, “Our story is ending.”

The rain was killing the last days of summer, you had been killing my last breath of love since a long time ago. I still don’t think I’m goanna make it through another love story. You took it all away from me.

And there I stand; I know I was going to be the one left behind.

But still I am watching the lake, vaguely conscious, and I know my life is ending.

If the Dream is Big Enough(I)---为了心中的梦想(一)

I used to watch her from my kitchen widow, she seemed so small as she muscled her way through the crowd of boys on the playground.

The school was across the street from our home and I would often watch the

kids as they played during recess.

A sea of children, and yet tome, she stood out from them all.

I remember the first day I saw her playing basketball. I watched in wonder as she ran circles around the other kids.

She managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net.

The boys always tried to stop her but no one could.

I began to notice her at other times, basketball in hand, playing alone,

She would practice dribbling and shooting over and over again, sometimes until dark.

One day I asked her why she practiced so much. She looked directly in my eyes and without a moment of hesitation she said,

“I want to go to college. The only way I can go is if I get a scholarship.

I like basketball. i decided that if I were good enough, I would get a scholarship.

I am going to play college basketball.

I want to be the best. My Daddy told me if the dream is big enough, the facts don't count.”

Then she smiled and ran towards the court to recap the routine I had seen over and over again.

Well, I had to give it to her - she was determined I watched her through those junior high years and into high school.

Every week, she led her varsity team to victory.

If the Dream is Big Enough(II)---

One day in her senior year, I saw her sitting in the grass, head cradled in her arms.

I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside her. Quietly I asked what was wrong.

"Oh, nothing." Came a soft reply. "I am just too short."

The coach told her that at 5'5 she would probably never get to play for a top ranked team much less offered a scholarship - so she should stop dreaming about college.

She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment.

I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet.

She lifted her head from her hands and told me that her father said those coaches were wrong.

They just did not understand the power of a dream. He told her that if she really wanted to play for a good college, if she truly wanted a scholarship.

That nothing could stop her except one thing-her own attitude.

He told her again, "If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count."

The next year, as she and her team went to the Northern California Championship game, she was seen by a college recruiter.

She was indeed of freed a scholarship, a full ride, to a Division I, NCAA women's basketball team.

She was going to get the college education that she had dreamed of and worked toward for all those years.

It's true: If the dream is big enough, the facts don't count.

You Are Wonderful

The following true story captured our hearts. It happened several years ago in the Paris opera house.A famous singer had been cantracted to sing, and ticket sales were booming. In fact, the night of the concert found the house packed and every ticket sold. The feeling of anticipation and excitement was in the air as the house manager took the stage and said,"Ladies and gentlemen ,thank you for your enthusiastic support.I'm afraid that due to illness, the man whom you've all come to to hear will not be performing tonight. However,we have found a suitable substitude we hope will provide you with comparable entertainment."The crowd groaned in disappointment and failed to hear the announcer mention the stand-in's name .The environment turned from excitement to frustration.

The stand-in performer gave the peiformance everything he had. When he had finished, there was nothing but an uncomfortable silence. No one applauded.Suddenly, from the balcony,a little boy stood up and shouted,"Daddy,I think you are wonderful!"The crowd broke into thunderous applause.

We all need people in our lives who are willing to stand up once in a while and say,"I think you are wonderful."

Don’t Quit, Keep Playin g

Wishing to encourage her young son’s progress on the piano, a mother took her boy to a Paderewski concert. After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her.

Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the little boy

rose and eventually explored his way through a door marked “NO ADMITTANCE.” When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that the child was missing.

Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage. In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the key- board, innocently picking out Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in the boy’s ear, “Don’t quit. Keep playing.”

Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in a bass part. Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato. Together, the old master and the young novice transformed a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative experience. The audience was mesmerized.

That’s the way it is in life. What we can accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy. We try our best, but the results aren’t exactly graceful flowing music. But when we trust in t he hands of a Greater Power, our life’s work truly can be beautiful.

Next time you set out to accomplish great feats, listen carefully. You can hear the voice of the Master, whispering in your ear, “Don’t quit. Keep playing.”

Legal advice

Marshaller Pormer was a young lawyer.

One day a neighbour entered his office, and asked, "What can I do if another man's dog entered my yard and killed one of my chickens?"

Mr. Pormer replied ,"That the damage done could be clacked from the owner of the dog."

"Well,"said the man,"Since it was your dog, you might pay me the worth of chicken about one dollar, Mr Pormer."

Mr. Pormer smiled as he handed the man his the amount named, and said,"Now then,as I have paid all that I owe you, don't you think it's only fair if you set off the matter a little bit you owe me?"

"But..." protested the neighbour,"I don't owe you a penny!"

"Ah..." smiled Mr pormer, "Don't you? Can you pay me five dollars for the legal advice which I gave you concerning the loss of your chicken?"

The Story of a Fire

Thirteen years have passed since, but it is all to me as if it had happened yesterday, -- the clanging

of the fire-bells, the hoarse shouts of the firemen, the wild rush and terror of the streets; then the great hush that fell upon the crowd; the sea of upturned faces with the fire glow upon it; and there, against the background of black smoke that poured from roof and attic, the boy clinging to the narrow ledge so far up that it seemed humanly impossible that help could ever come.

But even then it was coming. Up from the street, while the crew of the truck-company were labouring with the heavy extension ladder that at its longest stretch was many feet too short, crept four men upon long slender poles with cross- bars, iron-hooked at the end. Standing in one window, they reached up and thrust the hook through the next one above, then mounted a storey higher. Again the crash of glass, and again the dizzy ascent. Straight up the wall they crept, looking like human flies on the ceiling, and clinging as close, never resting, reaching one recess only to set out for the next; nearer and nearer in the race for life, until but a single span separated the foremost from the boy. And now the iron hook fell at his feet, and the fireman stood upon the step with :the rescued lad in his arms, just as the pentup flame burst lurid from the attic window, reaching with impotent fury for its prey. The next moment the) were safe upon the great ladder waiting to receive them below.

Then such a shout went up ! Men fell on each other's necks, and cried and laughed at once. trangers slapped one another on the back with glistening faces, shook hands, and behaved generally like men gone suddenly mad. Women wept in the street. The driver of a car stalled in the crowd, who had stood through it all speechless, clutching the reins, whipped his horses into a gallop and drove away, yelling like a Comanche, to relieve his feelings. The boy and his rescuer were carried across the street without anyone knowing how. Policemen forgot their dignity and shouted with the rest. Fire, peril, terror, and loss were alike forgotten in the one touch of nature that makes the whole world kin.

Fireman John Binns was made captain of his crew, and the Bennett medal was pinned on his coat on the next parade day.

Y ears ago, I was taking an algebra class over the summer, and had a teacher who liked to reminisce about his past with funny stories. He relates that he had been a math teacher in the Air Force, where it was his duty to force sleepy young recruits to stay awake for an hour of math at 8:00 in the morning in a large, warm, dimly-lit auditorium. One day, he came into the auditorium and saw his class even sleepier and less attentive than usual. He realized that something drastic would have to be done.

Now this classroom was very old, and the blackboards, which had been nailed on to the walls with old black iron nails, had become loose over the years. As a result, these black nails jutted almost invisibly from the blackboard and this teacher kept banging his hands on them while erasing the board. He decided to put them to good use.

With enough of a flourish to guarantee the class's attention, he went to the front of the room, near one edge of the board. Then, clearing his throat, he drew a coathook right near one of the protruding nails. He proceeded to hang his coat and hat on the hook that he had drawn in chalk (really on the nail, of course). Then he went on to give that day's lecture. He told us that the entire class had their eyes to the front of the room throughout the lecture. He didn't know if they'd heard a single word he'd said, but at least they looked attentive.

At the end of the class, the lecturer would usually leave by a small door near the blackboards, while the class would leave through the large doors at the back of the hall. When class was over, he took his coat and hat, erased the coathook, and left through the small door--and was followed by the entire class, lining up to go past the blackboard to see how he'd done it.

Nails In The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn…t lose his temp er at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "Y ou have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. Y ou can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won…t matter how many times you say I…m sorry, the wound is still there."

The little boy then understood how powerful his words were. He looked up at his father and said

"I hope you can forgive me father for the holes I put in you."

"Of course I can," said the father.

Be a queen

Be a queen. Dare to be different. Be a pioneer.Be a leader. Be the kind of

woman who in the face of adversity will continue to embrace life and walk fearlessly

toward the challenge. Take it on! Be a truth seeker and rule your domain,

whatever it is---your home, your office, your family---with a loving heart.

Be a queen. Be tender. Continue to give birth to new ideas and rejoice in your womanhood...

My prayer is that we will stop wasting time being mundane and mediocre...

It doesn't matter what you've been through, where you come from, who your parents

are--nor your social or economic status. None of that matters. What matters

is how you choose to love, how you choose to express that love through your

work, through your family, through what you have to give to the world.. Be a queen. Own your power and your glory!

Touch Me

Touch Me is a soliloquy(独白)composed by Hank Miller, about the Vietnam (越南)Veterans(退伍军人) Memorial in Washington, D.C. also known as “The Wall”. This monument is one of the most visited sites in the city of Washington.

-----By Hank Miller

(California professional photographer, freelance writer, former Naval Aviator(海军飞行员), and a Vietnam veteran)

Touch me. Don’t be afraid. I can’t hurt you. Go ahead and touch my smooth surface. Feel the cold, glass-like smoothness and the crevices(裂缝) and lines that make me what I am. Use both hands if you wish. We are more similar than you dare to believe.

Touch my face. Yes, I have a face like yours. It has weathered(饱经风霜的) the centuries as yours has the years. My face portrays my evolution. Yours, the birth and death of a generation. My face has aged like yours as we have endured together the testimony(证据) of earth elements.

I have eyes like yours. My inscriptions(碑铭) stare out at you as I search for the meaning of why we are here. I look into your eyes and see who you are. Who am I? I was formed millions of years past and now you see the results of my evolution.

I can feel your hands and the sweat from your palms flow into the countless combination of the letters that make me. I know you. I have known you since I was able to breathe in the air as my smoothness began to take shape and my color matured along with natural flaws. You have known me since the days when you came to take me from my mother.

You cannot hear me. I am static(静态的) and unmoving. But, I can hear your murmurs(低语) and your cries of pain and sadness. Your sons and daughters ask why? There are no answers. I am very old. I have seen everything and I am none the wiser for the pain and suffering and I have witnessed since I rose from the bowels of the earth. I have witnessed the conflict, the death, the civilizations, and the societies that have come before you. Yet I remain mystified about this day.

I feel sad yet alive with a purpose. I have come to know those who are now an integral part of the reason for my being here at this place and time. That purpose has become apparent as I stand before you on this day while your brethren (同胞)gather to witness my reflections and the changes of light that mirror your soul.

I am a reflection of you…

I am all of you…

I am your spirit..

I am The Wall.

HOME What makes a home ? Love and sympathy and confidence .It is a place where kindly affections exist among all the members of the family .The parents take good care of their children ,and the children are interested in the activities of their parents .Thus all of them are bound together by affection , and they find their home to be the cheeriest place in the world . A home without love is no more a home than a body without a soul is a man .Every civilized person is a social being .No one should live alone .A man may lead a successful and prosperous life ,but prosperity alone can by no means insure happiness .Many great personages in the world history had deep affections for their homes . Your home may be poor and humble ,but duty lies there .You should try to make it cheerful and comfortable .The great the difficulties ,the richer will be your reward . A home is more than a family dwelling .It is a school in which people are trained for citizenship .A man will not render good services to his country if he can do nothing good for his home ;for in proportion as he loves his home ,will he love his country .The home is the birthplace of true patriotism .It is the secret of social welfare and national greatness .It is the basis and origin of civilization . Women’s Tears I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up ,and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining . I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurt his wife ,but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly . You see : the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears ,the figure that she carries ,or the way she combs her hair . The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes ,because that is the doorway to her heart the place where love resides . When at some moment I lose the memory or the thread of our conversation…let me have the necessary time to remember …and if I cannot do it ,do not become nervous …as the most important thing is not my conversation but surely to be with you and to have you listening to me . Mother “M” is for the million things she gave me , “O” means only that she’s growing old , “T” is for the tears she shed to save me , “H” is for her heart of purest gold , “E” is for her eyes ,with the love-light shining, “R” means right ,and right she’ll always be . Put them all together ,they spell “MOTHER”, A world that means the world to me . A mother ‘s love is like a circle ,it has no beginning and ending .It keeps going around ever expanding ,touching everyone who comes in touch with it .Engulfing them like the morning’s mist ,warming them like noontimes sun ,and covering them like a blanket of evening stars .A mother’s love is like a circle ,it has no beginning and ending .

You have got all that the great have had: two arms, two legs, two hands, two eyes, and a brain to use if you'd be wise. With this equipment they all began, so start for the top and say" I can". Look them over the wise and the great. They take their food from a common plate. With similar knives and forks they use; with similar laces they tie their shoes. The world considers them brave and smart, but you know--- you have got all they had when they made their start. You can triumph and come to skill; you can be great if you only will. You are well equipped for the fight you choose you have arms and legs and brains to use. And people who have risen, great deeds to do started their lives with no more than you. You are the handicap you must face. You are the one who must choose your place. You must say where you want to go, and how much you will study the truth to know. God has equipped you for life, but he lets you decide what you want to be.

The road to success It is well that young men should begin at the beginning and occupy the most subordinate positions. Many of the leading businessmen of Pittsburgh had a serious responsibility thrust upon them at the very threshold of their business lives sweeping out of the office. I notice we have janitors and janitresses now in offices, and our young men unfortunately miss that salutary branch of business education. But if by chance the professional sweeper is absent any morning, the boy who has the genius of the future partner in him will not hesitate to try his hand at the broom. It does not hurt the newest comer to sweep out the office if necessary. I was one of those sweepers myself. Assuming that you have all obtained employment and are fairly started, my advice to you is “aim high”. I would not give a fig for the young man who does not already see himself the partner or the head of an important firm. Do not rest content for a moment in your thoughts as head clerk, or foreman, or general manager in any concern, no matter how extensive. Say to yourself, “my place is at the top”. Be king in your dreams. And there is the prime condition of success, the great secret: concentrate your energy, thought, and capital exclusively upon the business in which you are engaged. Having begun in one line, resolve to fight it out on the line, to lead in it, adopt every improvement, have the best machinery, and know the most about it. The concerns which fail are those which have scattered their capital, which means that they have scattered their brains also. They have investments in this, or that, or the other, here, there, and everywhere. “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” is all wrong. I tell you to “put all your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket.” Look round you and take notice, men who do that not often fail. It is easy to watch and carry too many baskets that break most eggs in this country. He who carries three baskets must put one on his head, which is apt to tumble and trip him up. One fault of the American businessman is lack of concentration. To summarize what I have said: aim for the highest; never enter a bar room; do not touch liquor, or if at all only at meals; never speculate; never indorse beyond your surplus cash fund; make the firm’s interest yours; break orders always to save owners; concentrate; put all your eggs in one basket, and watch that basket; expenditure always within revenue; lastly, be not impatient, for as Emerson says, “no one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourself.”
