Unit 9 What is Dongdong going to do?

湘潭市雨湖区许家铺学校赵心韵

第一课时:B、D 部分。词句教学。

Teaching objectives:

A. Grasp the new words and phrases in Part B: shout, pick up, put down.

B. Be able to understand and distinguish the sentence patterns :

1) “What are you doing?I’m doing … .” and “What are you going to do? I'm going to... .”

2) “What’s he /she doing? He/She is doing … . ”and “What is he/she going to do? He/She is going to... .”

C. Be able to talk about the picture in Part D, and use the words and sentences in the situations.

D. Cultivate pupils to learn how to express their appreciation to people who help them.

Teaching key points and difficulties:

A. The use of the phrases “ pick up, put down, shout” and the use of“be going to do sth.” .

B. Be able to distinguish the differences between the use of be doing and be going to do.

Teaching aids:

PPT, pencil, pen, pencil-box, umbrella, newspaper, a glass of water

Teaching steps:

I. Greeting and Warming up

1. Play the PPT and the song “ If you are happy”, let the Ss sing and do the actions together.

Purpose:营造快乐的气氛,既活动了身体,又为接下来画快乐的男女笑脸作为评价形式做了铺垫。

2. Introduce a new friend-- a parrot to the pupils.

T shows the PPT, the parrot says: Hello! Boys and girls! Nice to meet you!

Ss: Nice to meet you, too!

T: Wow! Are you happy? Ss: Yes!

Purpose:设计的一个学生喜闻乐见的鹦鹉,作为整节课的角色,将各个环节、将文本与课堂有机地串起来,生动有趣。

3. Introduce the target and the assessment way of drawing a happy boy and girl.

T: Today, we are going to learn Unit 9. And this class we are going to have a match between boys and girls. If you do a good job, I'm going to draw a picture for you. Then draw a frame of a boy's face and a girl's face on the blackboard.

Purpose:发挥教师自己会简笔画的特长,激发学生的好奇心,同时,在评价的过程中,灵活运用I’m going to draw big eyes/... for you. 或者Guess, what am I going to draw? 与学生进行交流,促进学生对新的句型的理解与运用。

II.Review

Revise some verbs learned by playing the game Quick Response and saying the chant....sweep, sweep, I'm sweeping. (ppt)

III. Presentation and drill

1. Teach the new words "pick up", "put down" by T’s acting “sweeping” in a new situation.

T: What are you doing? Ss: I'm sweeping!

T is sweeping and asking: What am I doing? Ss: You are sweeping!

T pretends to knock off the things on the desk (newspaper, pencil-box, umbrella...), and say: Oh! My pencil-box, my umbrella, my....

And T picks up the pen. Repeat twice.

Then the Ss follow the T several times, and T writes them on the blackboard and get the students to guess the meanings.

Purpose:在创设的情境中教单词----学生生活中常出现的撞掉桌子上的书、文具等,有趣、有意义、有印象。

2. Ss practice “ be doing” with their pens, following T.

3. Teach Ss "I am going to..." ."What are you going to do?".

1) T: Oh! Where's my pencil-box? Wow~it's here! T做准备去捡起才掉在地上的文具盒。

T: I'm picking up the pencil-box, yes or no?

Ss: Yes!

T: Yes? No, I'm not picking up the pencil-box, I'm going to pick up the pencil-box.

Repeat the sentence and the action. Teach Ss "I am going to..." with PPT.

2)T: Show me your book. What are you going to do? If I were you, maybe I am going to read the book, maybe I am going to put down the book. What are you going to do? S1: I am going to ... .S2:.....

T: Very good. Read after me “What are you going to do?"...

Ss: What are you going to do?

T: So "What are you going to do?" What's the meaning? Show the PPT. Purpose:延续情景,区别动作的度,学习新的句型be going to。没有生硬的语法讲解,学生在用中自然领会,加上灯片清晰准确的图片更加明了新知。

3)Practice. a) T’s model.b) Pair work.

T: Practice in pairs, one asks, the other one acts and answers .

T: For example, you ask and I answer. Oh! It's raining. Here's my umbrella.

Ss: What are you doing to do?

T: I'm going to open my umbrella.

....T drink some water, open the pencil-box....

T: Now, Practice in pairs just like you and me. Go!

4. Teach "What is he going to do?" "He is going to..."

1) T asks 2-3 pairs to show at the front. When they finish, T’ll ask other Ss "What is he/she going to do?" "He is going to..."

2) Write the sentences on the blackboard. Lead them to read these two sentences. 5. Teach "shout".

1) Show the PPT., the parrot and Jonny(in Part D) are coming and Parrot is shouting" Hey, Jonny! What are you going to do?"

2) T : Who's shouting? It's my parrot!

Get Ss to understand the meaning of "shout" and shout "Hey, Jonny! What are you going to do?"

Purpose:学生自创情景,练习句型,体验中掌握新知。shout的引出与鹦鹉的出现,为教材中显得突兀的D部分增添了情节和趣味性,对即将发生的事情充满了好奇。

IV. Practice

1.T shows the PPT about Part D in P47.

1) Teach them some unfamiliar words.

2) Let the Ss ask and answer in pairs.

--What is ... going to do? -- He/She is going to...

2. Another new situation, animals show in a circus. Practice using be going to and be doing.

1) PPT: (Parrot is shouting again.) "Johnny! What are you doing to do?"

T ---Ss: What is Johnny going to do? Oh! He is going to see the show in the circus!

2) PPT shows an elephant, a tiger, a monkey, a bird, a goat, and some things in a picture, and get Ss to guess what they are going to do.

T: What are they going to do? The elephant is going to...The bird is going to ...

Ss: Discuss in group.

3) Watch the show, us ing “be doing”.

Purpose:充分运用教材进行问答练习。再设计鹦鹉与Jonny的活动去马戏团观看表演,巩固以前学过的行为动词,如:sing, play football, ride a bike等,突破难点,正确运用be going to 和be doing。

V. Consolidation

1. Task: Plan for people who help them on Thanksgiving Day.

1)The parrot shouts again: "Johnny, what are you going to do?"

T: What is Johnny going to do? He is going to buy some turkey. Why? Oh, today is Nov.24th, It's Thursday. It's Thanksgiving Day!

2) T shows the PPT of Thanksgiving Day to the Ss and tell them some cultures of the Day. And T asks Ss :What are you doing to do today? Are you doing to say thanks to your teachers? Are you going to.... PPT

3) Ask Ss to discuss and write down what they are going to do and what their classmates are going to do.

3) Report their work.

Purpose:赛课当天正好是感恩节。利用这个契机,在渗透西方文化和感恩教育的同时,拓展了be going to作“打算,准备“的用法。又训练了写的技能。

1.Say thanks to your parents, teachers and friends. Do what they are going to do.

2.Copy the words in Part B three times.

3. Preview Part A, 回答:What is Dongdong going to do?

Purpose:作业任务化,督促学生真实地去实施计划,生活体验,情感升华。通过本课时解决了生词和句型的功能与意念,让学生再带着问题去预习课文,自学短文,既提高了学习能力,又促进了良好的学习习惯的形成。
