第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

Are you happy? Do you remember a time when you were happy? Are you seeking happiness today?

Many have sought a variety of sources for their feelings of happiness. Some have put their heart and effort into their work. Too many have turned to drugs and alcohol. Most of their efforts have a root in one common fact: People are looking for a lasting source of happiness.

Unfortunately, I believe that happiness escapes many because they misunderstand the process and journey of finding it. I have heard many people say that, ―I'll be happy when I get my new promotion." Or ―I'll be happy when I lose that extra 20 pounds." The list goes on and on. You probably have a few of your own you could add if you wanted.

This thinking is dangerous because it presupposes that happiness is a ―response" to having, being or doing something. In life, we all experience stimulus and response. Stimulus is when a dog barks at you and bares his teeth. Response is when your heart beats faster, your palms get sweaty and you prepare to run. Today, some people think that an expensive car is a stimulus. Happiness is a response. A great paying job is a stimulus. Happiness is a response. A loving relatio nship is a stimulus. Happiness is a response. This belief leaves us thinking and feeling: ― I’ll be happy when..."

It has been my finding that actually the opposite is true. I believe that happiness is a stimulus and response is what life brings to those who are truly happy. When we are happy, we tend to have more success in our work. When we are happy, people want to be around us and enjoy loving relationships. When we are happy, we more naturally take better care of our bodies and enjoy good health. Happiness is NOT a response--rather, it is a stimulus.

Happiness is a conscious choice we make every day of our lives. For unknown reason to me, many choose to be painful, unsuccessful and angry most of the time. Happiness is not something

that happens to us after we get something we want--we usually get things we want AFTER we choose to be happy.

I have made only one simple rule for my own happiness: Every day above ground is a GOOD day. Therefore, I tend to have a lot of good (and happy) days continually.

56. Paragraph 2 mainly talks about that people seek happiness ________.

Everyone has got two personalities-the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake bec ause you can control your behavior, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. In a normal night, of course, people frequently change their positions. The important position is the one that you go to sleep in.

If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by fashion or new ideas. You don’t like to displease people. So you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t quite sure of yourself.

If y ou sleep on your stomach, you are a rather secretive person. You worry a lot and you’re always easily upset. You always stick to your own opinions or judgment, but you don’t raise your hopes too much. You usually live for today not tomorrow. This means that you enjoy having a good time.

If you sleep curled up, you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and so you’re often defensive. You’re shy and you don’t normally like meeting people. You prefer to be on your own. You’re ea sily hurt.

If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well—balanced personality. You know your strengths and weakness. You’re usually careful. You believe in yourself. You sometimes feel anxious, but you don’t often get sad. You always say what you think even if it makes people rather angry.

―There is very little in my life that is more personal and more important to me than comets!‖ the amateur David H. Levy told Terence Dickinson in an interview. ―Not just discovering them but watching them, learning about them, writing about them, understanding what they do. It makes observing the sky intensely personal. I feel when I find

a new comet a door has been opened and I have seen a slightly new aspect of nature. There is

this object in the solar system that—for a few minutes or a few hours – only I know about. It is like trying to pry(打探) a secret out of nature. It is a very special feeling.‖ Ever since he was

a child, David H. Levy has been fascinated by the night sky and the wonders it reveals to

devoted watchmen. He developed a special feeling for comets before he reached his teens, though it was not until 1984 --- after nineteen years and more than nine hundred hours of combing the sky in search of them --- that he discovered his first one, from a small observatory that he had built in his backyard. Since then, he has discovered or co-discovered twenty more, making him one of the world’s most important comet hunters. His most celebrated find is periodic comet Shoemaker --- Levy 9, which he made with the husband and wife comet and—asteroid—hunting team Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker. The comet’s dramatic collision with Jupiter in July 1994, which constituted(组成)―the greatest planetary show in recorded history,‖ to quote Malcolm W. Browne of the New York Times, captivated (迷住)not only professional astronomers, but many amateurs. Although he is only an amateur astronomer—he earns his living by lecturing and writing books and by working with project artists. They’re projects devoted to introducing astronomy to elementary school children—he has won tremendous respect from his professional colleagues for his success in tracking down comets. ―David H. Levy is one of those rare individuals blessed with the gift of discovery,‖ David Hartsel, who serves on the board of directors of the Richland Astronomical Society , in Ohio, has said. ―Even rarer is his ability to let others share in the excitement and wonder of those discoveries through his writing and lectures.‖

C. he has established a close relationship with the sky

D. he may have a personal talk with nature

The knowledge society will be a highly competitive one, for organizations and individuals alike. Information technology, although only one of many new features of the next society, is already having one hugely important effect: it is allowing knowledge to spread near-instantly , and making it accessible to everyone. Given the ease and speed at which information travels, every institution in the knowledge society---not only businesses, but also schools, universities, hospitals and increasingly government agencies too---has to be globally competitive, even though most organizations will continue to be local in their activities and in their markets. This is because the Internet will keep customers everywhere informed on what is available anywhere in the world, and at what price.

This new knowledge economy will rely heavily on knowledge workers. At present, this term is widely used to describe people with considerable theoretical knowledge and learning :doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants chemical engineers. But the most striking growth will be in ―knowledge technologists‖: computer technicians, software designers, analysts in clinical labs, manufacturing technologists, paralegals. These people are as much manual(体力劳动)workers and they are knowledge workers; in fact, they usually spend far more time working with their hands than with their brains, but their manual work is based on

a substantial amount of theoretical knowledge which can be acquired only through formal

education, not through an apprenticeship(学徒期). They are not, as a rule, much better paid than traditional skilled workers, but they see themselves as ―professionals‖, just as unskilled manual workers in manufacturing were the dominant social and political force in the 21th century, knowledge technologists are likely to become the dominant social—and perhaps also political—force over the next decades.

67.The chief reason for keen (激烈的)competition in the knowledge society is that

_________.

A. organizations and individuals are easily influenced by information

B. customers keep track of new products worldwide

C. anyone can have access to knowledge anytime and anywhere

D. local organizations such as universities and hospitals will be globalized.

68.The quick spread of knowledge in the next society___________.

A. is based on information technology

B. results from a highly competitive society

C. is likely to increase information flow

D. will become the biggest problem to tackle

69.―Knowledge workers‖ mentioned in the essay most probably refer to ________.

A. those with primary and secondary education

B. those who work with hands rather than brains

C. those who have acquired theoretical knowledge through apprenticeship

D. those who have received higher education and got theoretical knowledge

70. The underlined word ―dominant‖ in this passage probably means________.

A. most influential

B. most interesting

C. most diligent

D. quite available

Autumn blues? Let the sunshine in falling leaves, withering flowers, cold winds, faint sunshine. For many people late autumn can be a season of gloom and depression. Spirits can be low.

People who suffer from "the autumn blues" often are extremely exhausted, lack energy, need

more sleep, feel increased appetite and gain weight.

"The exact cause of this condition, often called seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is not known yet," says Chen Jue, associate professor at Shanghai Mental Health Center. "But recent studies indicate that weather change is influential and strongly suggest that this condition is caused by changes in the availability of sunlight."

One theory is that with decreased exposure to sunlight, the biological clock that regulates mood, sleep, and hormones is delayed, running more slowly in winter. Exposure to light may reset the biological clock.

Another theory is that brain chemicals that transmit information between nerves may be altered in individuals with SAD. It is believed that exposure to light can correct these imbalances.

"It is a sad season, but you can try to make it happy. Remember, spring always lives in your heart," Chen says.

Here are some tips to deal with autumn depression.

◆Go outdoors and get some sunlight. Move around. Fresh air and exercise improve the respiratory(呼吸) system and blood circulation and regulate the nervous system. Thus, exercise is calming and relieves one's mood.

◆Relax at work. Stretch, breathe deeply. Take a tea break. Think of your next vacation.

◆Keep a chocolate bar in your pocket. Chocolate and sugar raise the spirits.

◆Look at bright colors, such as red and orange. Color therapy improves mood.

◆Listen to your favorite music. You can dance to it, or just lie on a cozy couch, reading a novel.

◆Decorate your room and work space with flowers. Blooming plants are cheering.

◆Call friends or family when you feel lonely or depressed. Recall some happy memories.

The global financial crisis of 2008 has contributed to a more fierce competition in job markets. Increasing numbers of college graduates are finding themselves in a situation where too many jobseekers are fighting for survival. Our class has had a heated discussion on this problem. Students have different ideas.

70% of them think it makes sense that they realize an early employment by lowering their income expectations, thus reducing the burden on their f amilies. They also believe there’re better opportunities for development if they go to work in the west or rural areas. 20% of them consider full employment an unrealistic goal, so they choose to continue their further study or go to vocational schools to learn some practical skills to make better preparations for future careers. Finally, the rest 10% determine to set up their own businesses.

As for me, I think after a series of timely measures taken by the government, we are confident about and capable of overcoming the current difficulties and challenges and the employment prospects for graduates will be better soon. So all we need to do now is plan and act in ways that reflect the reality, to assure that we make full use of our talent and skills.

优化方案(浙江、江苏)2020高考英语二轮复习 题型重组第二十组

第二十组 (建议用时:25分钟) 阅读理解 A The event that stands out in my memory happened one morning in 1983 when I was 14 years old.I was at home with my mother, getting ready for the afternoon session of school. I was doing my homework when I heard raised voices. At first I thought nothing of it—customers in the motorcycle shop directly below us often became unruly and loud, but I soon realized this was different. “Quick! Remove the motorcycles from the shop,” someone yelled. Then a thick burning smell filled the air. When I opened the front door of our flat to investigate, a thick cloud of smoke, billowing up from the ground floor, greeted me.The motorcycle shop had caught fire. My mum, who had been working in the kitchen, hurried to the living room.We rushed out of the door and along the corridor through the smoke. We were heading towards the stairway at the far end of the corridor when Mum stopped in her tracks. She turned around and headed back the way we came.I had no idea what she was doing, but I followed suit. Mum had suddenly remembered the Korean lady in her 70s who lived next door to us, who we called Makcik.Mum began banging on Makcik’s door, but to no avail. As the smoke thickened around us, I could see many of our neighbors—some still in their pyjamas—running for safety. “She would have run for safety like everyone else!” I cried. Mum refused to give up.“I know Makcik’s still inside,” she said as she pounded the door. “Go downstairs, shaji.Go now!”
