5. fare n. 费用

【辨析】fare, fee, price, expense

这几个单词都有“费用”之意,但用法不同。

(1)fare指交通费用,特指乘坐公共汽车、轮船、出租车等交通工具的费用。

(2)fee常用作复数形式(fees),指给律师、医生等专业人员的服务费用、酬金或(考试的)报名费、(加入俱乐部)的会费等。

(3)price专指“价格”,指某物的出售价格。

(4)expense指“支出、花销、费用”。

How much is the air fare from Beijing to Shanghai? 北京到上海的机票是多少?

If you want to join the club, the entrance fee is $20.如果你想加入俱乐部,会费20美元。What’s the price of the shoes? 这双鞋多少钱?

6.flow vt.流动;流出n.流动;流量

7.persuade vt.说服,劝说

【辨析】persuade和advise

两者均有“劝说”之意,但侧重点不同。

(1) persuade强调通过说理、恳求等方式说服别人同意做某事,侧重于结果(已说服)。

(2)advise指劝说某人去做某事,侧重于过程,至于结果如何,则不得而知。advise sb to do sth相当于try to persuade sb to do sth。advise可接动词的-ing 形式作宾语,也可接that引导的宾语从句(必须用虚拟语气即should+动词原形),而persuade不能。

My friend persuaded me to buy a new car.我的朋友说服我买了一辆新车。

He advised me to buy a new car, but I didn’t buy.他劝我买辆新车,但我没买。

8.cycle vt.骑自行车

He cycles to school every day.

She cycles along the street.

9. graduate v.毕业n.大学毕业生

They graduated from high school.他们高中毕业了。

10.finally adv.最后;终于

Finally, turn off the lights and lock the door.最后关上灯,锁好门。

【辨析】finally, in the end, at last

三者都有“最后,终于”之意,但其用法略有不同。

(1)finally强调活动过程的终结。一是在列举事物或论点时引出最后一项内容;二是在动词面前表示“等了好久才…”

(2)at last与fanally的第二个用法相同,但往往表示经过拖延或曲折后最终…因而带有较浓厚的感情色彩,如不耐烦,不情愿等。

(3)in the end与finally的第二个用法相同,而且能用于预卜将来,而at last和finally不能。We waited and waited, and finally they arrived.我们等了又等,最后他们终于来了。

11.schedule n.时间表;进度表vt.为某事安排时间

The boss has a busy schedule for the next few days.老板接下来几天日程安排得很满。

13.shortcoming n.缺点

She made me aware of my shortcomings.她使我知道了我自己的缺点。

【辨析】shortcoming与disadvantage

两者均有“弱点”之意,但用法不同。

(1)shortcoming一般指缺点,不一定都要指人,在使用的时候往往用复数shortcomings.

(2)disadvantage主要指不利的情况或条件。

He sharply pointed out the shortcomings in the work.他尖锐的指出了工作中的不足。

The other candidate’s main disadvantage is her age.另一候选人的主要不利条件是她的年龄。

14.stubborn adj.顽固的;固执的

He was too stubborn to change his idea.他过于固执,而不改变念头。

做及物动词词组时,意为“上交”,接代词作宾语时,代词要放在give和in之间,接名词作宾语的时候,可放在中间,也可以放在后面。

考卷答完后请上交。

24.Although she didn’t know the best way of getting to places, she insisted that she organize the trip properly.尽管她对去某些地方的最佳路线并不清楚,她却坚持要自己把这次旅行安排得尽善尽美。

(1)本句含有一个insist后接的宾语从句,句中使用的虚拟语气。insist为动词,后接that 从句的时候有两种情况:①insist表示“坚持要求”的时候,用虚拟语气(谓语用should+动词原形结构,should可以省略),此时从句的动作万钢发生在将来。②表示“坚持认为”时,从句用陈述句语序,即根据实际情况确定所用时态。

The boy insisted that his teacher(should) come to the party.

Thought all his friends criticized him, he insisted that he had done nothing wrong.

(2)本句还包含了一个although引导的让步状语从句,不能与but连用,但是可以和yet 或still搭配。

本句是由once引导的一个时间状语从句,意为“一旦…,一…就…”,相当于as soon as。此时once是连词。

Once you understand the rule, you’ll have no further difficult.一旦明白了这条规则,你就再也没有困难。

What will we do once the money has run out? 钱一旦用完,我们怎么办?

26.It becomes rapidly as it passed through deep valleys, travelling across western Yunnan Province.它穿过深谷时就变成了急流,流经云南西部。

此句中的travelling为现在分词作状语,其逻辑主语是主句的主语it,表示主动关系,相当于一个状语从句。

现在分词作状语在英语中非常普遍,也是高考的考点。其特点为:其逻辑主语是主句的主语,逻辑主语和分词表示的关系是主动关系,并在剧中可以做时间、原因、方式、条件、让步状语等。

(1)whatever, whichever, whoever, whomever可以引导名词性从句,也可以引导让步状语从句。引导让步状语从句时,可以换成no matter what/which/who/whom,位置可在主句前,也可以在主句后。

(2)wherever, whenever, however只能引导让步状语从句,可以换成no matter where/when/how,可放在主句前或主句后。

You can come to see me whenever you like it.只要你喜欢,随时来看我。

=You can come to see me, no matter when you like it.

【注意】虽然“no matter +疑问词”和“疑问词+ever ”都可以用来引导让步状语从句,但后者的用途更广,这类词(whoever,whatever,whichever,whenever,wherever 等)还可用来引导主语从句、宾语从句、时间或地点状语从句等。

【注意】当so或such至于句首的时候,主句应用倒装语序。如:

本句包含了一个what引导的表语从句,其中what在句子中作宾语,不可省略。

That’s what I am looking for.

He is no longer what he used to be.他不再是过去的他了。

7.To climb the mountains was hard work but as we looked around us, we were surprised by the view.上山很艰难,但是当我们环顾四周时,(眼前的)景色让我们感到惊奇。

本句中前半句的主语是不定式“to climb the mountains”。在英语句子中,不定式做主语也是一个常见的用法。

Too see is to believe.眼见为实。

【辨析】不定式做主语和动名词作主语。

两者做主语的时候,一般来说意思区别不大,常可以互换。如:

To see is to believe.=Seeing is believing.

但在实际应用中,其选择取舍,主要依据以下原则:

①不定式作主语一般表示某个特定的、比较具体的动作,而动名词作主语则表示某个抽象的、泛指的动作。

②在口语中,用动名词作主语的情况比不定式多。

③在句型“it is+表示否定的形容词(-less)或名词(no good,no use)”后,一般多用动名词,而不用不定式。

④在“主系表”结构中,主语和表语所采用的非谓语动词形式要一致,即:表语是不定式时,主语也用不定式;表语用动名词,主语也用动名词。

将来动作的表达法

一、用一般现在时表示

1. 条件、时间或让步状语从句中通常用一般现在时表示将来。例如:

If you put on more coal,the fire will burn up.

如果再添些煤,火就会旺起来。

I’ll go with you as soon as I finish my homework.

我一做完作业就跟你去。

However late he is,Mother will wait for him to have dinner together.

无论他有多晚,妈妈会等他一起吃饭。

解析:句中if引导条件状语从句,应用一般现在时表示将来,答案为B。

2. 在表示按照“时刻表、日程表、节目单”等既定的规定必定发生而又不可随意变更的事情时,通常可用一般现在时表示将来。例如:

The meeting begins at 8:30 and ends at 9:30.

会议8时30分开始,9时30分结束。
