*besides(除…之外还,包括)与except =but(除…之外,不包括)

They have classes every day but (except)Saturday and Sunday。

*be able to与can 能、会

(be able to用于各种时态,而can只能用于一般现在时态和一般过去时态中;have to用于各种时态,而must只能用于一般现在时态)

例如:I have been able to/will be able to speak two languages.

(不可以用can)

2. Language Points

1. People will have robots in their homes. 人们家里将会有机器人。

will助动词,表单纯的未来。用于陈述句表“将……,会……”。

e.g. I will (I'll) be 15 next month.下个月我就15岁了。

Mr. Green will be back soon.

He won't be back before 10.

否定句:won't = will not

will用于疑问句意为“会……吗?”

e.g. Will you be free on Friday evening?

Will people have robots?

2. There will only be one country.将会只有一个国家。

There will be 是there be句型的将来时态。

e.g. There won't be any paper money. (否定)

Will there be less pollution? (疑问)

Yes, there will./ No, there won't.

There will be more people. (肯定)

※常见错误:there will have…

3. I think there will be more / less pollution.

fewer 与less及more表数量的用法。

(1)few(形容词)“几乎没有,很少的”,修饰可数名词。其比较级、最高级为规则变化:few-fewer-fewest。“a few”表示“一些”,“few”带否定含义,“几乎没有”。例:a few days ago, for a few weeks,

He has few friends here.

There will be fewer trees.

(2)little(形容词)“很少的,几乎没有的”(“小的,幼小的”),修饰不可数名词。其比较级、最高级为不规则变化:little-less-least。“a

little”表“一些”,“little”带否定含义,“几乎没有”。例:

There’s little food left. We have to buy some.

There’s a little water in the cup.

There will be less pollution.

He finished it within the least time.

(3)many“许多”,修饰可数名词。much“许多”,修饰可数名词。

many / more比较级、最高级为不规则变化:many / much -more-most。

例:I have many magazines. She has more magazines. But he has the most.

There will be more people on the earth in future.

More and more students start to exercise more every day to keep fit.

4. 注:except“除了”,不包含其后的事物或人,而besides表“除了”含义时包含其后的事物或人。

例:All the students passed the exam except Tom. Besides Tom, Mary and Peter

will come to the dinner. She just sits beside me in the classroom.

5. Well, I don’t agree.我不同意

I don’t agree 相当于I disagree

agree 的用法:

agree with sb.“同意某人(的意见)”,agree on sth. “在某事上达成共识”,agree to do sth. “同意做某事”,

agree that…“同意…”agree to …‘‘同意(计划,主意)”

例句:

He and his brother never agreed on anything. 他和他弟弟从未在任何一件事上达成共识。Do you agree with me? 你同意我的意见吗?

He didn’t agree with what I said. 他不同意我所说的话。

Did he agree to this plan? 他同意这个计划吗?

6. go swimming 去游泳

类似的短语还有:

go skating 去滑冰go fishing 去钓鱼

go shopping 去买东西go hiking 去远足

7. be on vacation 度假

Where will go be on vacation?

8. Five years ago, Sally was in high school. 五年前,萨利在读中学。

Today, Sally is in college. 现在,萨利在读大学。

英语中,常可用“be+介词短语”表示一个正在从事的活动,此时,介词短语中往往没有冠词,如be at work“在工作”

9. fall in love with 爱上…

fall in love with a girl 爱上一个女孩

fall in love with a country 爱上一个国家

[注] fall 是“陷入”的意思. 它与feel(感觉)很像。

fall→fell→fallen

feel→felt→felt.

fall 构成的词组还有:fall behind “落后,跟不上”,fall down “摔倒”, fall into……“落入……之中”,

fall off……“从……上掉下来”

e.g. (1) Work hard, or you will fall behind. 努力学习,否则你会落后的。

(2) The girl fell off her bike and hurt herself. 那个女孩从自行车上掉了下来,摔伤了自己。

(3) If you walk on the wall, you will fall down. 如果你去墙头上走,你就会摔倒。10.alone adj.(只作表语)adv. 独自;单独

He was alone in the house

他一个人在屋里

I went to the movies alone,I felt lonely.

我独自去看电影了,我觉得很孤独

[注] alone

表示“单独的,独自一人的”,不含感情色彩.做形容词时,只能在be动词或系动词之后做表语与lonely不同,lonely表示“孤独的,寂寞的”含有丰富的感情色彩.lonely做形容词时,可做定语和表语。如:

a lonely village 孤寂的村庄.

11.keep vt.& vi.

keep 有好几个意思,在本课中做“饲养;喂养”讲,相当于feed。

keep a pet parrot 养一只宠物鹦鹉

feed a cat with fish 给猫喂鱼

(1)保住;保留:I’ll try my best to keep my job. 我要尽力保住我的工作。

(2)保守(秘密):keep a secret(这对我来说可是太难了)

(3)保持(某状态):Keep silent! 保持沉默!

Keep top side up! 请勿倒放!(“保持上方朝上”不就是“请勿倒放”吗?)

(4)继续;持续:They kept walking. 他们继续步行。

12. She played soccer. 她踢足球。She plays the guitar. 她弹吉他。

在英语中,球类动词前不加冠词,但表示弹奏乐器时,乐器前一定要加the. 另外,表示吃三餐饭时,表三餐饭的单词前也不加冠词,但当三餐饭前有修饰词时,常可用冠词a,如have a big breakfast“吃一顿丰盛的早餐”

12. Predicting the future can be difficult. 预知未来可能很难。

Predicting the future 是动名词短语作主语。在英语中,动名词短语相当于一个名词,在句子中常可以作主语、宾语,作主语时,谓语动词常用单数。这种句式还可以用“It’s+adj.+ to do sth.”替换,其中it 是形式主语,真正的主语是后面的to do 不定式结构。

e.g. (1) Drinking milk for breakfast is good for your health. = It’s good for your health to drink milk for breakfast.

(2) Playing football in the street is dangerous. = It is dangerous to play football in the street. 13. There are many famous predictions that never come true. 有一些著名的语言从来没有实现过。

Come 构成的词组有:come from “来自……”,come back “回来”, come over “过来,顺便来访”,

come down “下来”,come on “快点”,come out“出来(常指花开出来,照片洗出来,书出版等)”
