Earning money is the primary purpose of work, however, is not the

only reason why people attend work. Personally, people attend work for

self-actualization and socialization except the monetary consideration.

First of all, working in a ideal industry is the most direct method for

realizing one’s ambitions. People are in need of self-actualization, which

force them to think about how to make their dreams come true and

indentify themselves in their career life. In turn, they are likely to get a

job and wave endeavors to make extraordinary contributions to the

industry, since the salary they get is capable to ensure their sustenance

on a materialistic basis. And I believe that achievement of an ambition

outweigh the contentment brought by money. Take Mary Curie, a great

female scientist who spent her whole life in her dream career, physics, as

an example. She devoted herself to her research of ray, even though it

brought her little material benefits. Would Mary Curie think it unworthy

to put so much energy on such “low-benefit” research? I bet she

wouldn’t. From my point of view, the main motivation comes from a

strong faith in their dreams concerning their profession.

Secondly, working in a group enables people to communicate with

each other, which meet people’s need of socialization. As for myself,

being alone for over two days will absolutely drive me crazy. As we all

know, neighborhood nowadays in the cities is no longer friendly as it

used to be. Without a job, people get little chance to chat with others,

except for some meaningless small talk with the deliver guy or the

milkman. With nothing to focus on, people who haven’t got a job are

more likely to get bored. On the contrary, work provides the main

opportunity to socialize with other people at their age and possibly

sharing the same interest. Most important of all, group success means a

lot more than the satisfaction at money.

While making money ensures our daily materialistic needs such as

clothing and eating, people attend work for more psychological needs

like self-actualization and socialization.
