Silence is golden
“Silence is golden” is a well-known expression. Indeed zipping our lip may prevent us from
getting involved in trouble on almost every occasion.
Take myself for example. I always blurt out things that come back to haunt me. It shows my
frankness indeed and nonetheless I never benefit from my innocence. Unfortunately, others may
regard me as those who take trivial issues to heart since I work my argument into every
conversation. Besides, when an unthinking remark is made, it is impossible to eat my words.
When in dormitory, I sometimes talk about my family and show off my parents’ affection. But
these days I have heard that one of my roommates lost her father at an early age. What I bragged
might provoke her.
Silence is golden. This proverb is especially true under several situations. We should avoid talking
over facts or statistics of which we are not sure. And whenever we are expressing our ideas,
brevity is the soul of wit and talking too much will always lead to faults and mistakes. Please
remember keeping your mouth shut.
