Abstract

Jane Austen’s novels are always regarded as the classic of loving and marriage,

especially pride and prejudice. It is a masterpiece of English literature, which also

should be accepted as the treasure in the world literature. The novel mainly narrates

four different kinds of loving affairs among single men and women in bourgeoisie,

which reflect three kinds of views on marriage: marriages that are separately guided

by money and eroticism, authority and also true love. The novel is based on the ups

and downs of Darcy and Elizabeth’s love and marriage, adding up the contrast among

different views on marriages, expresses Austen’s ideal marriage just like Darcy and

Elizabeth’s love actually. The author’s viewpoints, which are extraordinary, internal,

profound and more representative, win great acceptance from one after another

generations. According to the analysis in this thesis, we may understand more about

the view on marriage of Jane Austen. It seems that for a perfect marriage, true love is

the foundation and money is the guarantee. This paper is also in the attempt to find

out some realistic significance of this kind of marriage.

Key words: pride prejudice true love money marriage
