Step 1 Lead-in
Check the homework. Ask students to look at the pictures about
KungfuPanda.
Step 2 Reading
1. Pre-reading
Talk about panda in class. Use these words to help you.
big, bamboo, zoo, popular, cute, black and white, Sichuan,famous,
endangered, beautiful, forest, protect
2. Reading guidance: scimming Skimming means looking quickly through the passage to find the
main idea without reading every word. Sometimes you just need to
read the first sentence or last sentence ineach paragraph a little
more carefully.
3. Fast-reading
Find the main idea of four paragraphs and match
4. Careful–reading
1) (paragraph 1 and 2) read the test and write short answers to the
questions.
What is Lin Wei’s job?
What does Lin Wei do every day?
At 9:00 a.m., How are most of the baby pandas?
What do the baby pandas have for breakfast?
What do the baby pandas do when they see the keepers?
2) (paragraph3) Scan the article to find out what these numbers
mean: 10, 12, 200, 2000
2,000 – Scientists say there are now fewer than 2000 pandas living
in the forests.
300 – Another 300 or so live in zoos or research centers in China or
other countries.
3) Reading guidance: scanning
Scanning means moving your eyes quickly down the passage to
find specific information. You do not need to read the whole text.
Sometimes you just look for key words, phrases, dates, or numbers,
etc.

Pandas don’t have many babies, maybe only one every two years.
The babies often die from illnesses and do not live very long.
Humans started to cut down the forests.

5. After-reading
(2e) Discuss what other ways you think children can help to save

a. run over 跑上前去 over adv. 穿越;从……的一边到另一边
e.g. She ran over to say hello, but I didn’t recognize her.

e.g. As he was thinking too deeply and not playing attention to
where he was going, he walked straight into a tree.
c. fall over 摔倒;倒下
e.g. Don’t run too fast, or you might fall over. 别跑的太快,要不你会摔
跤的。

e. g. Tommy fell over the dog and broke his front teeth.
