Abstract Ionothermal synthesis was used to prepare a novel amino acid containing hybrid zincophosphate monomer, 

『Zn(HPO4)(H2PO4)】【C6H1oN3O2](denoted as ZnPO-cj58).The inorganic framework of[zn(HP04)(H2PO4)】 

【C6HloN3O2】consists of 4-membered rings formed by ZnO3OHis and PO2(OH)2 tetrahedra.The HPO4 and amino acid 

moieties hang on the Zn center.Such a framework is stabilized by extensive multipoint hydrogen bonds involving the 

phosphate units and histidine molecules to form a pseudo-3D supramolecular structure.It is noteworthy that 

ZnPO—CJ58 is the first zinc phosphate cluster with amino acid acting as the ligand.It exhibits photoluminescence 

excited at fl wavelength of 220 nm.Interestingly,ZnPO—CJ58 can transform into a layered structure(C6HloN302)Zn2‘ 

(HPO4)(P04)・H2O(ZnPO—CJ36)through further reacting with water or zinc acetate dihydrate in water at 85。C for 1 h. 

This work will be helpful for the synthesis of crystalline inorganic-organic hybrid materials with biofunctional mole。

1 lntroduction 

The design and synthesis of open-framework transition 

metal phosphates have received much attention recently be— 

cause of their potential application in catalysis,separation, 

optics,and magnetics,and so forth .Since the first discovery 

of microporous zinc phosphate with zeolite-like topology by 

Stucky and co-workers a large number of zinc phosphates 

have been synthesized in the presence of organic and inorganic 

structure—directing agents The structural diversity among 

various zinc phosphates is remarkable with zero-dimensional 

(OD)clusters,one—dimensional(1 D)chains or 1adders, 

two-dimensional(2D)layers,and three—dimensional(3D)struc- tures[ 一 1.Interestingly,some low.dimensional structures may be used as precusors to form more complex open—framework 

structures under suitable conditions.It will be helpful for us to 

elucidate the unclear formation mechanism of open—framework 

materials. 

Recently,many research interests have been focused on 

the synthesis of inorganic—organic hybrid frameworks through 

incorporating organic ligands.Particularly,great efforts have 

been made to produce chiral open.framework materials.Amino 

acids containing both amino and carboxyl groups play impor— 

tan[roles,as building blocks of proteins and intermediates,in 

metabolism.The USC of amino acid as ligands instead of orga. nic amines has 1ed to the preparation of metal phosphates and 

phosphites with chira1 structures.Such examples include chiral 

1D zinc phosphites C4N203H8’ZnHPO3 and fZn(HPO3)‘ 

(c1lN202Hl2) ,and chiral 1D zinc phosphate【Zn3(H20)’ 

rPO4)(HPO4)(C6H9N302)2(C6H8N302)] .However,the chiral 

amino acid is easy to racemize under hydrothermal or 

solvothermal conditions.Such a phenomenon was observed in 

the syntheses of Zn(HPO4)(C6H9N3O2) J,Zn(HPO3)(D,|- 

C6HgN3O2)(H2O)l/2IlOl and(C6H1 0N3o2)zn2(HP04)(P04)‘ H20【ll1. SiDCC 2004 Morris and co.workers[12]developed a novel 

ionothermal synthesis method for preparing molecular sieves, 

the ionic liquid solvent system has currently received much attention.Ionothermal synthesis[’ 一 】provides manv advan. 

tagcs compared to the conventional hydrothermal and SOIvo— 

thermal methods.The ionic liquid Call serve as solvent,struc— 

ture・directing agent or charge compensating species.Although several zeo.type frameworks【 一 ”and inorganic-organic ma. 

terials[22—28]were prepared in ionic liquids,the use of amino 

acid as the ligands to synthesize inorganic open—framework 

materials has not been explored yet in the ionothermal system. 

Herein 1ies a new amino acid containing hybrid zinco. 

phosphate monomer【Zn(HPO4)(H2PO4)][C6H10N3O2](denoted 

as ZnP0.CJ58)synthesized from an ionothermal system.It can 

tr ̄sform into fl layered phosphate structure(C6H10N3O2)Zn2
