Chapter25
1. Judith.
2. Because Sam’s back door was unlocked. Judith hid in the
closet to wait for Sam.
3. She wanted to study algebra with Sam.
4. Judith shook her head. “I sneaked out. They think I’m
asleep in bed.” She smiled. “But that’s so great of you to
worry about my parents, Sam. You really are the most
considerate girl I know. ”
5. Motioning for Judith to be silent, Sam crept out into the
hall. All the lights had been turned off. Sam’s parents had
gone to bed. Tugging Judith by the hand, Sam led the way
downstairs, tiptoeing silently, taking it one step at a time.
Then Sam practically shoved her out the front door
and swung it closed with a soft click behind her.
6. Judith 7. “No!” Sam shrieked. “No! Please-no!” Sam totally lost it. She
just couldn’t stand it anymore. Sam dropped her backpack
and started to run. She didn’t know where she was running.
And Sam didn’t care. She just knew she had to run away
from Judith.
8. Then Sam stumbled over an upraised tree root and fell,
sprawling face down on the carpet of dead leaves.
Chapter26
1. To her shock that wasn’t Judith. Clarissa hovered over
her.
2. “I will cancel your third wish. Make one final wish. Since
you are so unhappy, I shall grant you one more”
3. She wished she had never met Clarissa. She wished Judith
had met Clarissa instead of her.
4. She could see Judith and Clarissa standing in the shade of
a wide tree. They were huddled together, talking intently.
5. Judith will make a wish-and her life will be totally ruined!
6. She heard Judith say, “Byrd, why don’t you fly away!”
7. She suddenly felt so different. Lighter. Happier.
8. All of a sudden she was feeling pretty hungry.
9. She jabbed her head forward and caught the end of the
worm. Then she ate it. Very tasty.
10. She turned into a bird.
