Section ⅠUse of English2012年的完型填空是有关美国司法官伦理和政治关系的一篇文章,出自New York Times, June, 30th , 2011的“Ethics, Politics and the Law”一文。
maintain.
题2选A。

Paper. No notebooks, no textbooks, no test paper. Nor are there any pencils or pens, which always seem to run out of ink at the critical moment. w.w.w.k.s.5.u.c.o.mA "paperless classroom" is what more and more schools are trying to achieve.Students don't do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use palm (手掌) size, or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads texts from Internet libraries and sends them to every student's personal computer.Having computers also means that students can use the Web. They can look up information on any subject they're studying: from maths to social science.High school teacher Judy Herrell in Florida, US, described how her class used the Web to learn about the war in Afganistan (阿富汗) over one year ago."We could touch every side of the country through different sites: from the forest to refugee camps (难民营)," she said. "Using a book that's three or four years old is impossible."And exams can go online too. At a high school in Tennessee, US, students take tests on their own computers. The teacher records the grades on the network for everyone to see and then copies them to his own electronic grade book.A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper. High school teacher Stephanie Sorrell in Kentucky, US, said she used to give about 900 pieces of paper each week to each student."Think about the money and trees we could save with the computers," she said. But, with all this technology, there's always the risk that the machines will break down. So, in case of a power failure or technical problems, paper textbooks are still widely available for these hi-tech students.1. Stop working.C. Fall down.D. Lose control. CBDCBUnit 4VPassage TwoLanguage learning begins with listening. Children are greatly different in the amount of listening they do before they start speaking, and later starters are often long listeners .Most children will “obey” spoken instructions some time before they can speak, though the word “obey” is hardly accurate as a description of the eager and delighted cooperation usually shown by the child .Before they can speak, many children will also ask questions by gesture and by making questioning noises.Any attempt to study the development from the noises babies make to their first spoken words leads to considerable difficulties. It is agreed that they enjoy making noises, and that during the first few months one or two noises sort themselves as particularly expressive as delight, pain, friendliness, and so on. But since these can’t be said to show the baby’s intention to communicate ,they can ha rdly be regarded as early forms of language. It is agreed, too, that from about three months they play with sounds for enjoyment, and that by six months they are able to add new words to their store. This self-imitation(模仿)leads on to deliberate(有意的)imitation of sounds made or words spoken to them by other people. The problem then arises as to the point at which one can say that these imitations can be considered as speech. It is a problem we need to get out teeth into. The meaning of a word depends on what a particular person means by it in a particular situation and it is clear that what a child means by a word will change as he gains more experience of the world .Thus the use at seven months of “mama” as a greeting fo r his mother cannot be dismissed as a meaningless sound simply because he also uses it at other times for his father, his dog, or anything else he likes. Playful and meaningless imitation of what other people say continues after the child has begun to speak for himself, I doubt, however whether anything is gained when parents take advantage of this ability in an attempt to teach new sounds .1.Before children start speaking________.A.they need equal amount of listeningB.they need different amounts of listeningC.they are all eager to cooperate with the adults by obeying spoken instructionsD.they can’t understand and obey the adult’s oral instructions2.Children who start speaking late ________.A.may have problems with their listeningB.probably do not hear enough language spoken around themually pay close attention to what they hearD.often take a long time in learning to listen properly3.A baby’s first noises are ________.A.an expression of his moods and feelingsB.an early form of languageC.a sign that he means to tell you somethingD.an imitation of the speech of adults4.The problem of deciding at what point a baby’s imitations can be considered as speech________.A.is important because words have different meanings for different peopleB.is not especially important because the changeover takes place graduallyC.is one that should be properly understood because the meaning of words changes with ageD.is one that should be completely ignored(忽略)because children’s use of words is often meaningless5.The speaker implies________.A.parents can never hope to teach their children new soundsB.children no longer imitate people after they begin to speakC.children who are good at imitating learn new words more quicklyD.even after they have learnt to speak, children still enjoy imitating答案:1.B 2.D 3.A 4.B 5.DUnit 2VPassage OneThough war is something people hate, Director Feng Xiaoning often exposes his audience to it.“If we don’t impress the audience, who are without the painful experience of war, with the cruel injury to life and human nature war causes, how can we bring them a love of peace and objection to war?” asked the director with a glance in his eyes. After Red River Valley and Lover’s Griefover the Yellow River, both of which star Chinese model and actr ess Ning Jing, Feng drew a satisfactory full stop to his war trilogy(三部曲) last month with Purple Sunset. The film tells a story which took place in 1954,at the very moment when World War II was drawing to an end , a Chinese peasant and a Soviet woman soldier flee into a forest , where they seize a Japanese girl. They follow the girl in the hope that she will take them out of the forest , but instead they arrive in a Japanese base. Humanity(人道主义) prevents them from killing the young , innocent victim of Japanese militarism. This humanity, the longing for peace and eagerness to survive make the three unite.“If people are touched by justice, tolerance and unselfishness, I think I have achieved my goal.” Feng said.Feng admits that there are violent and bloody scenes in the film , such as tanks fighting and Japanese burning Chi nese people alive, to show the cruelty of war . But that’s never his personal preferences, he says.“Everyone who has watched my films can tell how much I detest war.”He said. “I wrote all the things for my war films by myself . Whenever I finished one , I felt as though I had suffered great pain.”Feng regards every one of his productions as an opportunity to learn about human nature and humanity. In spite of violent scenes that frighten and sicken the audience, a balance is sought with beautiful scenery. Just like the snowy mountains in Red River Valley and the grand plateau in Lover’s Grief over the Yellow River, a beautiful vast grassland appears in this film. “I used to study art , and I appreciate beautiful things ,”Feng said. “I believe that filmssh ould offer the audience a chance to enjoy beauty .”1.Director Feng Xiaoning shot war film because ________.A.he was deeply interested in such a topicB.he wanted to give the audience the painful experience of warC.he hoped to arouse people’s love o f peace and objection to warD.he dreamed of becoming a world-famous director2.All the following belong to Feng’s three trilogy except ________.A.Red River Valley B.Lover’s Grief over the Yellow RiverC.Purple Sunset D.In he Mood for Love3.A Chinese peasant and a soviet woman soldier seized a Japanese girl so that ________.A.they could find the Japanese base easilyB.she could take them out of the forestC.they could kill her for revengeD.it would cause the Japanese militarism to give in4. Scenes of Japanese burning Chinese people alive in the film are to _____.A.show that war is cruelB.attract people's interestC.show Feng's personal preferance in dealing with detailsD.make the film moving and interesting5.The underlined w ord “detest” in this passage refers to ________.A.hate B.like C.flee D.know about参考答案:CDBAAUnit 8VPassage OneThere are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people, and to develop their own interests in many subjects. Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education, as they are responsible for what they do in life. Some students do badly in a traditional classroom. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot, it is a good idea to be in an open classroom. But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem getting used to making so many choices. For many students it is important to have some rules in the classroom. They worry about the rules even when there are no rules. Even a few rules will help this kind of students. The last point about open education is that some traditional teachers do not like it. Many teachers do not believe in open education. Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their schools. You now know what open education is. Some of its good points and bad points have been explained. You may have your own opinion about open education. The writer thinks that open education is a good idea, but only in theory. In actual fact, it may not work very well in a real class or school. The writer believes that most students, but of course not all students, want some structure in their classes. They want and need to have rules. In some cases, they must be made to study some subjects. Many students are pleased to find subjects they have to study interesting. They wouldnot study those subjects if they did not have to.1.Open education allows the students to ________.A.grow as the educated B.be responsible for their futureC.develop their own interests D.discover subjects outside class2.Open education may be a good idea for the students who ________.A.enjoy learning B.worry about gradesC.do well in a traditional classroom D.are responsible for what they do in life.3.Some students will do little in an open classroom because ________.A.there are too few rules B.they hate activitiesC.open education is similar to the traditional education D.they worry about the rules 4.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?A.Some traditional teachers do not like it. B.Many teachers do not believe in open education.C.Teachers may have problems in open classrooms.D.The teacher’s feelings and attitudes are important to the students.5.Which of the following best summarizes the passage?A.Open education is a really complex idea.B.Open education is better than traditional education.C.Teachers dislike open education.D.The writer thinks that open education is a good idea in practice.

What will man be like in the future—in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, butwe can be sure that he will be different from what he is today. For man is slowly changing all the time. Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is a relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more—and eventually we shall need larger ones. This is likely to bring about a physical change too: the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald. Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will notbe a very attractive creature to look at. This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own. [共5题](1) Future man is likely to be different from us ________.(A) in quite a few ways(B) in almost every way(C) in great many ways(D) in one or two ways正确答案:A(2) The reason for believing that future man will be different is that man ________.(A) began to change five hundred years ago(B) never stops changing(C) never stops growing(D) has recently begun to change正确答案:B(3) People’s heads will eventually grow larger. This is because their brains ________.(A) will grow faster than at present(B) will need more room than at present(C) will play an important part(D) will be in constant use正确答案:D(4) Future man will probably ________.(A) have bigger eyes (B) get weaker eyes(C) see better (D) have to wear better glasses正确答案:C(5) Future man’s hair will ________.(A) grow darker (B) stop growing completely(C) fall out more often (D) get longer正确答案:B参考答案:129. Generations of Americans have been brought up to believe that a good breakfast is one of life’s essentials. Eating breakfasts at the start of the day, we have all been told, and told again, is as necessary as putting gasoline in the family car before starting a trip. But for many people the thought of food first thing in the morning is by no means a pleasure. So despite all the efforts, they still take no breakfast. Between 1977 and 1983, the latest year for which figures are available, the number of people who didn’t have breakfast increased by 33 percent from 8.8 million to 11.7 million—according to the Chicago-based Market Research Corporation of America. For those who feel pain of guilt about not eating breakfast, however, there is some good news. Several studies in the last few years indicate that, for adults especially, there may be nothing wrong with omitting breakfast. “Going wit hout breakfast does not affect performance,” said Amold Bender, former professor of nutrition at Queen College in London, “nor does giving people breakfast improve performance.” Scientific evidence linking breakfast to better health or better performance is surprisingly inadequate, and most of the recentwork involves children, not adults. “The literature,” says one researcher, Dr. Emesto Polite at the University of Texas, “is poor.” [共5题](1) The latest year for which figures could be obtained is ________.(A) the year the author wrote the article(B) any year between 1977 and 1983(C) 1977(D) 1983正确答案:D(2) For those who do not take breakfast, the good news is that ________.(A) several studies have been done in the past few years(B) the omission of breakfast does no harm to one’s health(C) adults have especially made studies in this field(D) eating little in the morning is good for health正确答案:B(3) “…, nor does giving people breakfast i mprove performance” (in Para.3 ) means ________.(A) anyone without breakfast does improve his performance(B) not giving people breakfast improves performance(C) having breakfast does not improve performance, either(D) people having breakfast do improve their performances, too正确答案:C(4) The word “literature” in the last sentence refers to ________.(A) stories, poems, plays, etc.(B) written works on a particular subject(C) any printed material(D) the modern literature of America正确答案:B(5) What is implied but NOT stated by the author is that ________.(A) not eating breakfast might affect the health of children(B) Dr. Polite is engaged in research work at an institution of higher learning(C) breakfast does not affect performance(D) Professor Bender once taught college courses in nutrition in London正确答案:A新手必看:2018年远程网络教育新手指南2018年12月网络教育统考疑难问题解答。
