INTERNATION SCHOOL THIRD ENGLISH SPEAKING CONTEST
Light a bulb for yourself
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my great honor to stand here to give you
a speech. At first, please allow me to introduce myself. I am wen, you
also can call me wenny. I come from huangGang, Hubei province. Now, I’m
a sophomore from Electronic Engineering School. My topic is light a bulb
for yourself.
At the beginning of this semester, I was lucky to be a volunteer to
welcome the new students. At the date of September, before the new students
come to school, my leader told us that ”now you are prefect, so when you
were asked how is our school, you should remember that you are not only
a member of your school, the more important is that you need to bring
confidence to your underclassmen. You have got through the first greed,
so you must know how deep your underclassmen believe you.
What have recalled my memory when I am a freshman here. My brain is
full of imagination of my college life. So how to spend my college life
puzzled me. Then I meet my prefect, something changed me. College is a
place to improve your comprehensive ability. There are three goals in the
start of my college life. The first one is to join the Youth League branch.
The second one is to get early every morning to do some reading or exercise.
The last one is to make some friends in your new environment.
I’m seeking for a model in my real life. After becoming a member
of youth league branch I found my best friend, my minister. Who is a bulb
in my life? The bulb is lighting. My dream is clearer. The difficulties
are not big problems any more. There are Two things I will never forget
in my life. Now I would like to share them with you.
First, LEARNING.
It is better to say college is a place to teach you how to study by
yourself. The professor is not like your teacher in the high school, they
would not leave you with too much homework, they help you to learn and
think by yourself. So to learn how to study by yourself is important. And
then, if you rarely go to the library in the three year’s college life,
it means you have wasted plenty of wealth. As a result you should go to
the library, which is a good way to expand your knowledge and view. If
you are not popular with your classmates in high school, then college can
give you chances to mould yourself again. Friends are one part of your
future cause, they can help you, but you should also have the ability to
help them, so you are all have to try hard.
Second, work ability.
Since the entry of the college, you have realized the employment presure,
you need to have a clear career goal and arm yourself with academic
knowledge and skills, which will qualify you for the job you apply for.
Never respond to help someone but not do anything, which can undermine
their faith in you. Integrity is important. Don’t be late for the meeting,if you are late for one minute, it means you have waste 30 minutes of others’ time, so
time keeping is an important quality. Grasp the opportunity to speak in public
to practice your communication skills, which will be very useful when you
come to the society.
