nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider. ”
In our daily life, I believe many people would do some reading . Reading
has nothing to do with their interests, people read for various reasons.
Some read for the purpose of gaining knowledge, some people may
consider reading as a way of killing time, some read just to finish their
tasks, but we cannot deny that some people love reading indeed.
Then what feelings and thoughts should we have when we are reading?
On this matter, I strongly agree with Bacon’s idea.
No matter what we read, we should have a correct attitude and learn
something. We read not to believe what the narrators want to say and
state, not to just accept the narrators’ thoughts, which does not make any
sense. Therefore if we hold that idea, no matter how many books we read,
there are very few we can learn. Thus it is of great significance for us to
have proper opinions on reading.
It will benefit us a lot if we read with a considering and thoughtful mind.
Put ourselves into the scene that the narrator created. In this way, we can
have a better understanding of the authors’ ideas. What’s more, when it
comes to some ambiguous problems, it is important to use our own
judgments to decide whether it is right or wrong. That is to say, we need
to have a critical mind. This is also very crucial in our daily life.
Nowadays, with the high development of the information technology,
there are different kinds of information around us. Hence we have to use
our own judgments to choose the most beneficial ones.
However critical mind does not mean that we should find faults with the
books we are reading. Don’t be too extreme. Even you are not in favor of
the narrator’s idea, we should show our respect to the author.
There are many people taking down the wonderful sentences and phrases
in books, including myself. Generally speaking, this is a good reading
habit. But we that is not enough, we should do more. After writing them
down, we should absorb them and turn them into our own things.
One more thing, a good reading material also plays an important part in
reading. So be cautious when choosing a book or other materials.
In a word, it is not easy to be a qualified reader. There are many things we
should attach attention to. But different people have different methods.
Find one that fit you best.
