2024年中考英语新热点时文阅读-发明与创造01(2023·广东佛山·统考三模)Across the world, humans buy around 1.3 billion single-use plastic bottles a day. However, only about 9% of them are recycled and most of them end up in landfills, the ocean or elsewhere in nature. When beach-loving Madison Checketts noticed that many plastic bottles polluted the sand during her family trip to California, the 12-year-old American girl realized that this needed to be changed. So for her school science project, she decided to focus on reducing plastic litter.During her research, Madison came across a special method of packing water within an eatable material—a gel membrane(凝胶膜). At that time, the girl got her idea: She would design an eatable water bottle called the Eco-Hero.To carry out her idea, Madison developed the method by doing scientific tests with common food additives (添加剂). She also learned from previous research on eatable water bottles. Based on the past research, she improved the method and made her bottles bigger and able to last for a longer time. She found that water, lemon juice and other chemicals could be used together to make a gel bag that wouldn’t break. And the bag could hold up to 3/4 cup of water and could be kept in the fridge for three weeks.“My biggest goal with this project is to help the world,” says the young inventor. 2024年中考英语新热点时文阅读-科普知识01(2022秋·江苏宿迁·九年级统考期中)Fresh green grass. Hundreds of colorful wild flowers. Water running into little pools. Birds making their homes in boxes. The 9,500-square-metre Augustenborg Botanical Garden may look just like any other well-organized park, but there’s a difference. It lies on the roofs(屋顶) of industrial and office buildings in the city of Malmo in Sweden.Green roofs are not a new invention. And now they are getting popular again. The common roofs of a mode m city have endless black surfaces(表面) with no life or water. Perhaps that’s why a garden on a roof becomes such a perfect choice for more people.Green roofs are not just pretty. They also help to moderate the city temperature. The high temperatures on common roofs in summer can make top floor flats uncomfortably hot. What is more, they play a part in making the cities hotter than the countryside around them, causing the “urban heat-island effect”. On a green roof, however, with its plants and water, temperatures change only a little, as they do in a park. This can greatly cut the costs of heatingand cooling in the building below. Also, a green roof takes in rain water, and protects the city drainage system(排水系统). ________ And small animals and birds can make their homes on it. Thanks to this, the city may become part of nature, rather than something completely separate from it.While the cost of building such as roof can still be higher, it can be cheaper in the long term as a result of energy savings. And wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to walk out into a garden high above the city’s noise and traffic, whether you’re at school or in an office or just at home in a ten-floor block?1.With the example of Augustenborg Botanical Garden, the writer wants to explain ________.A.what a green roof is like B.how wildlife is protectedC.what to do with a spare roof D.how to organize a good park2.The underlined word “moderate” in Paragraph 3 is the closest in meaning to “________”.A.raise B.check C.control D.record3.Which of the following is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 4?A.A common roof is noisy.B.A green roof is alive.C.A green roof stops pollution.D.A common roof increases the cost.4.The purpose of the passage is to ________.A.introduce the change of green roofs B.solve the problems with green roofsC.show the amazing beauty of green roofs D.describe the advantages(优点) of green roofs02(2023·辽宁朝阳·统考中考真题)Chinese researchers reached the top of Qomolangma on May 4, 2022. If so, you’ve experienced “hangry (饿怒)” —some people get angry easily as they are hungry. The reason for this lies in what happens inside your body when it needs food.Everything you eat would be changed into different kinds of nutrients (营养物质) in your body. These nutrients would enter your blood and be passed to every part of your body and be used for creating energy. As time passes after your last meal, these nutrients in your blood drop. Also, your blood glucose (血糖) drops. Unlike other parts in your body, your brain totally depends on blood glucose to do its job. You’ve probably already noticed that simple things can become difficult when you are hungry and your blood glucose levels drop. You may find it hard to pay attention. For example, you may make silly mistakes in your study and homework. You might also have noticed that you can’t even speak clearly when you’re too hungry.Another thing that happens when you’re hungry is behaving impolitely and can’t control yourself, such as snapping at others. In that case, even though you may already try your best to avoid conflict (冲突) with important friends, you may still be too angry to control yourself when you are staying with the people you are most relaxed with. That’s why you may find yourself being impatient with your parents or friends. So what should we do to avoid being hangry? The easiest way is to eat something before you get too hungry. The best choice is to have some nutrient - rich and natural foods that help deal with hunger quickly and can be kept in our body as long as possible, but not fast food. The final way is to suggest that difficult situations should be dealt with after a meal, not before.17.When does “hangry” usually happen?A.When the body needs food.B.When nutrients enter your body.C.When the blood glucose levels drop.D.When it’s hard for you to pay attention.18.What does the underlined words “snapping at” mean in Chinese?A.称赞B.呵斥C.嘲笑D.帮助19.Which paragraphs tell the influence of being hangry?A.①②B.②③C.③④D.④⑤20.Which is one of the ways to deal with hunger?A.Eat something after you get too hungry.B.Stay with people you are most relaxed with.C.Deal with difficult situations after meals.D.Eat a little junk food before you are hungry.21.Who is the text written for?A.Doctors.B.Teachers.C.Parent.D.Students.06(2022秋·山东菏泽·九年级统考期中)Have you ever thought about why you are the way you are? And what does your personality(性格)connect with? Recent research has showed that the position(位置)in which we are born in our family plays a very important role in forming personality. The eldest childBeing the only child, the eldest enjoys all their parents’ attention. However, new parents usually expect to see their child do well. And the eldest child tries to meet these expectations. As a result, the eldest children are usuallypolite and traditional. The problems come with the birth of another child. Suddenly the attention they’re used to receiving becomes weaker. Then, they don’t feel safe and will try to do all they can to make their parents happy. The second childThe second child has no experience of life without a brother or sister, so they never know how their brothers or sisters feel when they suddenly have to share the attention. The second children are often more outgoing and always looking for ways to get attention. One of the most common ways to achieve this is by making people laugh and the second children are often the jokers of the family. Again, problems can appear when another baby arrives. Suddenly, the second child becomes the middle child and may lose a clear sense(意识)of where they are.The third childWith the birth of their third baby, parents will often feel this is their last chance to bring up a child. This means the youngest child, more often than not, is spoilt(溺爱)with attention and love. This can lead them to be very self-centered, believing that the world moves around them. They are always treated as the “baby” of the family so they don’t do as well as they could do. They like doing things in unexpected ways, so they are also likely to be creative. 22.What influences people’s personality according to the text?A.Birth place.B.Birth weight.C.Birth order.23.What does the underlined word “they” refer to in the text?A.The eldest children.B.The second children.C.The parents.24.Compared to the first child, the second child is _________ according to the text.A.more polite and traditionalB.more humorous and outgoingC.more creative and confident25.According to the text, if Tom thinks mainly about himself and always has new ideas, he might be _________.A.the eldest child B.the second child C.the third child07(2022秋·山东菏泽·九年级统考期中)It is said that tea can improve creative power(力量) of the literary(文学的) artists in ancient China.According to Lu Yu’s Cha Jing, tea-drinking in China can be traced back(追溯) to the Zhou Dynasty—tea was discovered by Shen Nong and became popular as a drink in the State of Lu because of Zhou Gong.Tea-drinking in China has a long history of four thousand years. But in China, I rarely see people reading during their free time. Are people’s attitudes toward reading different here? Not really. D ata (数据) released by Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e-books over regular books. However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this di fference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature. From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三国演义》)to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem(《三体》),Chinese authors have created many fantastic written works.Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Our answers may be different greatly. Even now your dream may have changed from when you were in primary school. However, it seems career choices aren’t only based on personal taste. In a survey carried out by Teens, doctors, lawyers, and bankers were some of most popular careers that people said they hoped to follow. This is in line with a similar survey carried out in the UK in May 2011, in which medicine was the top choice among the UK teenagers aged between 13 and 17.Medicine and law are two of the oldest and best known professions(职业). Doctors and lawyers are some of the most respected members of society, and they make good money. It is equally unsurprising that banking is now one of the most common career choices. Youngsters worldwide think of banking and see the money rolling in. Wealth is increasingly becoming one of the most important signs of a successful career. British young men list the UK tycoon Alan Sugar, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg as their top role models “for their wealth”. Just as Chinese teenagers see being a banker as a good and fun pathway to “wealth”.However, not every child has the makings of doctor, lawyer, or banker. They are those who see happiness in other areas. As the Teens’ survey discovered, a lot of new and challenging jobs---coffee shop owner, waiter at a fast food restaurant---are among teenagers’ career choices. They can be equally interesting and rewarding jobs. With every choice comes duty and challenge, and all career paths require special educationand training, you have to learn to balance optimism(乐观)and confidence with being realistic about your talents and skills.1.What is the passage mainly about?A.Careers in teenagers’ mind.B. But they would do well to remember that a new choice is available --- micro-homes.Fondly called “tiny houses,” these houses have all living necessities in a small package, including kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Generally under 50 square meters, most tiny houses can hold just one or two people thoug h some say they have the space for more. What’s lost in size is not lost in design as these homes are often quite modern in design.Besides an attractive appearance, tiny houses can also have practical features(特点). Making the best of urban space, the 72-to-122-centimeter-wide Keret House in Warsaw, the world’s narrowest home, filled in an alley(小巷). The house uses solar power, wind power and rainwater collection to make its owner live practically anywhere.Although micro-homes are attractive, there are a few disadvantages to consider before getting comfortable on a minicouch. Moving into a tiny house, you should throw away unnecessary things. It is also mostly impossible to invite guests. And finally, a micro-home is likely a temporary(暂时的) living choice for most people since they will probably start families and own more thin gs.Though the limitation will scare some, there is usually a benefit. I know people who graduated late at 25 and they found work immediately. I know people who never went to university but found what they love at 18. I know people who found a job straight out of college making much money but hate what they do. I know people who took gap years and found their purpose. I know people who were so sure about what they were going to do at 16, but they changed their mind at 26. So my point is everything in life happens according to our time, our clock. You may look at some of your friends and think that they’re ahead of you. Maybe some of them you feel are behind. But everything happens at their own pace (速度). They have their own time and clock and so do you. Be patient. It took till 32 for J.K. Rowling to be published for Harry Potter. Ortega set up Zara when he was 39. Jack Ma started Alibaba when he was 35. Morgan Freeman got his big break (机遇) at 52. Steve Carell only got his break after 40 years old. Virgin was started by Richard Branson at 34.Getting your degree (学位) after 25 is still an achievement. Not being married at 30 but still happy is beautiful. Starting a family after 35 is still possible. And buying a house after 40 is still great. Don’t let anyone rush you with their time lines. As Einstein said, “Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that’s counted truly counts.” And this is the most important thing. I want you to be able to have meaningful, purposeful and fulfilling (让人感觉有意义的) lives for yourselves, and learn how to use that to make a difference in the lives of others. That will be the true success.1. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in t heir lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy.Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic.Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children. They found that 66 percent of them had older brother s and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families. You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied s hyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves. They blame themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israelis worry less about failure and are less shy.For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practicing conversation. And don’t forget---if you are shy, you are not the only one.1. Silences may be thoughtful, or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say. A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness(固执), or worry. Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as uncomfortable, therefore, people try to fill every gap with conversations. Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person's needs. Many Native Americans think silence is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do. Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what maybe implied (暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.Other cultures may use silence in other ways, especially when dealing with conflicts (矛盾)among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example, Russian, French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However, Mexicans may keep silent when a powerful person is giving instructions because they think it rude to argue with him or her. In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may regard silence as a sign of respect.Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety(焦虑) their patients may be experiencing. John Lennon once said, “Life is what’s happening while we’re busy making other plans.” When we’re busy making other plans, our children are busy growing up, the people we love are moving away and dying, our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away. In short, we miss our life. Many people believe that their life will be better in the future. In fact, no one can be sure what he or she will achieve tomorrow. When our attention is in the present moment, we push fear from our minds. Fear is the worry about events that might happen in the future——we won’t have enough money, our children will get into trouble, we will get older and weaker, whatever. To overcome fear, the best way is bringing your attention back to enjoy the present.Mark Twain said, “I have experienced some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” I don’t think I can say it any better. One of my father's friends, Bernie, was a rich businessman, who owned a large store in St. Paul.Every summer, when the first watermelons arrived, Bernie would call. Dad and I would go to Bernie 's place. We'd sit on the edge of the dock (码头)and got ready for a big meal. Bernie would take his knife, cut our first watermelon, hand us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we'd bury our faces in watermelon, eating only the heart — the reddest, juiciest, firmest, sweetest, and most seed-free part — and throw away the rest.Bernie was my father's ideal of a rich man, I always thought it was because he was such a successful businessman. Years later, I realized that it was not Bernie 's wealth itself but his way of dealing with it that my father liked. Bernie knew how to stop working, get together with friends and eat only the heart of the watermelon. What I learned from Bernie is that being rich is a stateof mind. Some of us, no matter how much money we have, will never be free enough to eat only the heart of the watermelon. If you don't take the time to enjoy life's small pleasure, your work is probably hurting your life. For many years, I forgot that lesson I'd learned as a kid on the dock I was too busy making all the money I could. Nobody can control the weather. But if we read correctly the signs around us, we can tell what the more important changes in the weather will be. This way of telling what the weather will be like on the following day or two is called weather forecasting. For many centuries and in all countries, people havestudied the weather and tried to make weather forecasting. Rings around the sun are a sign of coming rain. Many people feel their joints hurt in their bones if wet weather is coming. Some birds fly high if fine weather is coming, but they fly near the ground if rainy or stormy weather is on the way. It is probably because of the insects (昆虫) which they are hunting that they fly low. If you see a rainbow during rainy weather, this is a sign that the weather will become clear and fine. Such rainbows come in the evening. If the stars twinkle clearly at night, then fine weather will continue. If a fog appears in the morning just above a river, then the day will be warm. If the sunset is mostly red in color, then the following day will be fine. If a rainbow appears in the morning, rainy weather will probably come. Most of the above sayings have been made by the people who have used their eyes and brains to make weather forecasting.1. Which is true about weather forecasting?A. Weather forecasting is a recorder about the weather on the following day or two.B. Weather forecasting is a way of telling what the weather will be like.C. Weather forecasting is a sign of coming rain.D. People can change the weather.2. Section III 科学小品篇 Passage 23 Researchers (研究者) have announced (宣布) the result of two studies on the health effects of the drug aspirin (阿斯匹林). One study shows aspirin can sharply reduce the chance that a healthy, older man will suffer from a heart attack (心脏病).
The study offered two new results from earlier findings. It said taking one aspirin pill every other day helped only healthy men over the age of fifty. It also said aspirin gave the greatest protection against heart attacks to men with low blood cholesterol (胆固醇) levels.
Earlier in the United States began a major aspirin study in the early 1980s. It included 22,000 healthy men doctors. All were between the ages of forty and eighty-four. More than 11,000 of the doctors took a harmless pill that contained no drug. The men did not know which kind of pill they were taking.
The doctors who took aspirin suffered 44% fewer heart attacks than those taking the harmless pill. 139 men who took aspirin suffered from heart attacks. Ten of them died. 239 men who did not take aspirin suffered from heart attacks. Twenty-six of them died.
The researchers said the doctors’ study provides clear proof that taking aspirin can prevent a first heart attack in healthy, older men. They said, however, the result does not mean every man over the age of fifty should take aspirin. They said aspirin couldn’t help men who do not eat healthy foods, who smoke cigarettes and who are fat. The researchers said men who think they would be helped by taking aspirin should talk with their doctors first.

Make a card about the size of a postcard and write two English letters L and R on it, L on the left and R on the right. First, hold the card about 80 cm away and you see both the letters. Then close your right eye and look at the letter R only with your left eye. And now, as you move the card slowly towards you, you’ll find the letter L disappearing. But if you move the card nearer to your face, the letter will be seen again. Now do the same experiment with your left eye closed, you’ll find the letter R disappearing.
Why does the letter disappear? It is because there is a blind spot on the eye. When the image (影像) of the letter falls on the blind spot, it won’t be seen. That is why either of the letters disappears.

It influences (影响) health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and every cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ (智商) of a group students were very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% below. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand (另一方面), can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
