Abstract

Thispaperpresentsadaptivecontrolrules,atthedynamicslevel,forthenonholonomicmobilerobotswithunknowndynamicparameters.Adaptivecontrolsarederivedformobilerobots,usingbacksteppingtechnique,fortrackingofareferencetrajectoryandstabilizationtoafixedposture.Forthetrackingproblem,thecontrollerguaranteestheasymptoticconvergenceofthetrackingerrortozero.Forstabili-zation,theproblemisconvertedtoanequivalenttrackingproblem,usingatimevaryingerrorfeedback,beforethetrackingcontrolisapplied.Thedesignedcontrollerensurestheasymptoticzeroingofthesta-bilizationerror.Theproposedcontrollawsincludeavelocity/accelerationlimiterthatpreventstherobotÕswheelsfromslipping.Ó2002ElsevierScienceLtd.Allrightsreserved.
