Summary of recent research contents about cet4 and cet6Abstract: As cet4 and cet6 become popular among Chinese students and play its role effectively, there are plenty of researches in this in recent years.These researches mainly focus on the question types of college English test ,reliability and validity , washback effects of exam, effects of test on students and teachers .After the pedagogical reformation ,college English test has been revised with the purpose of putting emphasis on listening tests .There are enormous evidences shows that English test also have evident affection on students and teachers.Keywords :question types ;reliability and validity ;washback effects ;effects on teachers and students1.IntroductionLanguage tests plays an important role in the foreign language teaching and learning ,which is also a valid way to measure the effectiveness of the study of English .Its purpose is to serve for language learning .But in fact ,tests have both advantage and disadvantage for English language teaching and learning.On purpose of knowing current situation about foreign language teaching research ,we searched all the papers related to revolution published from 1979 to 2009.During this time ,there are barely nothing .Increase of year 2002 and 2007 is most great ,which is more than twice of last year(1.Jin Yan ,2010,p70)Since the application of cet band-4 in1987 until now ,this written test mainly focus on listening ,reading and writing ,which are vitally importantly for nowadays. The revised cet tests has changed greatly in weight of reading and listening compared with the old format exam.College English test is a nation-wide ,large-scale educational exam .It is sponsored by Higher educational department .It is a test for measuring how effective the university practice the college English curriculum and whether the college students reach specific level.2.question typesAfter the reform ,the CET Band 4 and CET Band 6 become very different when it comes to listening and writing .On purpose of put emphasis on utility ,there are more questions testing the listening ability of participants .The passage we have listened is of diverse format ,wide topic and moderate difficulty .The length and speaking speed of which complies syllabus of CET .The feature of anticipated answer covers almost all the listening skill.(2.Gu Xiangdong , 2010,p74 )It is demonstrated that test questions includes all four kinds of article forms after analyzing the last CET questions ,among which argumentation makes the maximum proportion ( 61. 25% ) ,and the narration occupies the least ( 5% ). (5.li Hang, 2011,p55)From 1995 ,information was induced to language test area gradually.At the same time ,language tester pay attention to affection of technology on validity of language test ,to ensure the justice of exam .To improve validity of exam ,prevent high-technologicalcheating ,educational department started the CET Band 4 and Band 6 program in May ,2007.(6.Jin Yan, 2011,p4)4.washback effects of examWash back effects represents the affection of exam inside school .(7.Gu Xiangdong ,2007,p119) Exam affects teaching definitely ,especially for high risky exam .As research reveals ,facing pressure of test rationally can prepare for exam more efficiently.(8.Qi Luxia ,2012,p204)There are several advices for college English teaching :the role of skills is very limited ,the performance can be improved outstandingly only by cognitive strategy .The development of cognitive strategy competence should be paid attention to while adhering the faith that fine learning makes fine test results .(9.Gu Xiangdong 2013,p36)5.effects of test on studentsFrom the result of survey ,we can see that junior students who have not passed CET4 learn English mainly through English movies and English songs after class .Besides ,”doing examination questions ”,”reading English newspapers and magazines ” are also an important way .However ,”using teaching materials and other network resources”and “learning with the help of autonomous learning platform” are not popular with these students and nor is taking part in interactive activities such as English corner.(10.Zuo Can ,2014,p43)The frequency of word recitation and fundamental skill practicing of students who is preparing for English test is generally higher than students who have already past CET Band 6 ,which reveals that reformed CET has some positive affection on promoting after school language ,however last short.(11.Gu Xiangdong 2014,p38)6.effects of test on teachersComparing the class the three teachers before and after the reformation ,we have found outstanding changes in teaching project and contents of them .These changes mainly focus on :there are no CET training in face of the exam ;Half of the curriculums are set for listening and speaking ;For the teaching contents ,complementary materials become more abundant and sincere ;skills like speaking ,listening and fast reading are stressed in class.(12.GuXiangdong,2013,p28)Scholars differ about whether tests are a good instrument for improving teaching and learning, although they are often used for this purpose. An examination of the origin of test wash back and relevant empirical studies leads to a conclusion that tests are a blunt instrument for promoting reforms in teaching. This is mainly because testing and teaching possess different characteristics and serve different functions.
