IF USED IN RELATION TOTHE COMPANY’S PRODUCTS THE RECIPIENT IS RESPONSIBLE TOCONFIRM THE DOCUMENT ISSUE DATE IS STILL VALID.1. INTRODUCTIONThis specification covers the required paint and painted part performance ofbasecoat/clearcoat enamel paint systems used on exterior plastic parts finished by Holden Ltd or by suppliers. This specification covers the following classes of exterior plastic parts based on exposure requirements of the basecoat/clearcoat enamel finish:Class I - Parts subjected to full sun exposure on horizontal areas of the body such as Decklid, Roof and Bonnet.Class ll - Parts subjected to full sun exposure but normally in vertical positions of the body e.g. side mirrors, door handles, door belt mouldings, bumper fascias and rocker skirts.Class lll - Parts partially subject to sun exposure e.g. wheel trim covers.2. APPLICATION 2.1Paint system for general use on exterior plastic parts.2.2 Plastic substrates used for testing and approval to this specification shall be as specified on the part drawing.3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1As supplied paint / painted components(i) Colour to approved Design Staff master.(ii)At approval; no change to paint materials or process used shall be made without approval from the Holden Materials Engineering Department.3.2 Full System ApprovalAny change to either the paint system or substrate will require system approval to be granted. All tests in section 4.2 should be completed. --`,,,,,,-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---M A T E R I A L S P E C I F I C A T I O NREVISION :August, 2004NAME: BASECOAT / CLEARCOAT ENAMEL FOR EXTERIOR PLASTIC PARTSTHIS DOCUMENT MUST NOT BE REPRODUCED. IF USED IN RELATION TOTHE COMPANY’S PRODUCTS THE RECIPIENT IS RESPONSIBLE TOCONFIRM THE DOCUMENT ISSUE DATE IS STILL VALID.3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (continued)3.3Colour Durability – for colour submissionsAll colours used must be approved by satisfactory performance in Tests 1, 2, 3, 4 and 12 of Section 4.2 below. Tests may be performed on painted test panels or suitable sections cut from painted parts.3.4 Painted Part – PPAP ApprovalParts painted with an approved paint system and paint colour must conform to Tests 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 12 of Section 4.2 (See Notes 3 and 4). Tests may be performed on painted test panels when suitable sections cut from painted parts are not available.3.5 Painted Part, Minimum In-Process TestingThe process used (included preparation and cleaning) to paint components should be such that the part conforms to all requirements of this specification at all times. Testing to ensure conformance of the paint application process shall be the responsibility of the supplier.4. TESTS 4.1Test ProgramTest panels of minimum nominal dimensions of 100 x 100 x 2.5 mm from theplastic material shown on the part drawing are painted to the intended method and tested as shown in Section 4.2.Top coat colours equivalent to current body colour in a metallic and non-metallic colour are to be used for paint system type approval and must complete each test.Approval of painted parts and approval of new colour durability are detailed in Section 3.Age all test panels for 72 hours ambient before testing unless otherwise specified.M A T E R I A L S P E C I F I C A T I O NREVISION :August, 2004NAME: BASECOAT / CLEARCOAT ENAMEL FOR EXTERIOR PLASTIC PARTSTHIS DOCUMENT MUST NOT BE REPRODUCED.
