But he’s not looking straight ahead. He doesn’tsee that big rock! Oh, no! he’srunning too fast. Peter, watch out! Peter: [He falls down.] Oh!Mr. English: Peter, are you OK? Peter: I’m all right. She’s playing tennis.Yoko: Hi, Tamara!Tamara: That looks like fun! Can I play?Yoko: Sure. Take the tennis racket. Now, throw the ball up, and hit it with theracket. Like this. [She throws theball up, and she hits it.]Tamara: Let me try. [She throws the ball up, and she tries to hit it. But shemisses the ball—she doesn’t hit it.]Oh, I missed.Yoko: Throw the ball up high, Tamara. Tamara: High?Yoko: Yes, very high. Over your head.Then you will have time to swingthe racket and hit the ball. Tamara: [She misses the ball again.] Oh,I missed again. I can’t hit it.] Yoko: You’re throwing the ball too high, Tamara.Tamara: Maybe tennis isn’t my sport.But I’d like to watch your game.SHE’S JUMPING HIGH!SHE’S MOVING F AST!SH E’S HITTING EVERY BALLFROM THE FIRST TO THE LAST.WE CAN SEE TENNIS IS HERSPORT!SHE’S PLAYING WELL, AND WECAN TELLSHE’S GREAT ON THE TENNISCOURT.LET’S PLAY BALL! Here itcomes.Tamara: [She swings and misses.] Oh, I can’t hit the ball.Mr. English: You’re swinging too hard, Tamara. Swing nice and easy.HERE COMES THE PITCH!SHE’S SWINGING F AST!SHE’S MISSING EVERY BALLFROM THE FIRST TO THE LAST.SHE CAN’T HIT THE BALLANYPLACE.[Tamara hits the ball.]WAIT! He’s playing basketball.Tamara: Oh, I love basketball.Mr. English: Do you know how to play? Tamara: Sure. You jump. [She jumps.] Peter: Wow! Tamara can really jump! Tamara: You pass the ball to otherplayers on your team. [She passes the ball.]Yoko: Oh, Tamara, you can really pass well!Tamara: And you shoot the ball into the basket. [The ball goes into the basket.] Mr. English: Amazing!Tamara: Thanks. Let’s play a game. Peter: I want to be on Tamara’s team. Yoko: Me, too.Alexander: Play on my team, Tamara. Mr. English: [as an announcer] Tamara is taking the ball up the court [Wehear the ball bouncing.] Tamara ispassing the ball to Peter. Peter isshooting the ball. It’s a long, longshot. [swish!] Beautiful! Two pointsfor Tamara and Peter. Now Yoko istaking a shot. [She misses.] Oh, toobad. Now Peter has the ball. He isrunning up the court. He’s stopping.He’s shooting!
