Shakespeare is one of the most famous playwrights of the world. H e was born in 1564 in Stratford on Avon in England which is a really p retty town and he opened the Globe theatre in London I think at some s tage but the main thing why Shakespeare is so famous… he had a reall y short life. Back in those days to make it to 40 was considered old a ge but in his relatively short life he produced an enormous body of w ork. He produced historical plays, tragedies, comedies, poetry, sonne ts… So he was an extremely prolific writer and I think the reason th at he's so famous even today is because the themes he chose for most o f his work were universal. They're themes that touch us whether we sp eak English, whether we speak Spanish or Russian, whether we're in th e 21st century or in the 16th century. They're themes that are eterna l and they concern humanity, and have concerned humanity for such a l ong time.
William Shakespeare, the world’ s most popular writer, was born to middle-class parents in the small market town of Stratford-upon-Avon in 15 64. Shortly after he married at the age of eighteen, he left his hometown and went to London. Within a few years, he became one of the city ’ s lea ding actors and playwrights. By 1612 ,he had been England ’ s most popular playwright. William Shakespeare is considered the greatest playwright in the world and the finest poet who has written in the English language. Shakespeare understood people more than any other writers. He could create characters that have meaning beyond the time and place of his plays. His characters are individual human beings, struggling just as people do in real life, sometimes successfully and sometimes with painful and tragic results. Shakespeare wrote at least thirty-seven plays, which gave an index to hi s extensive knowledge on various subjects Plays like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet are so popular among Chinese readers that they have become the household institutions in this country. The writing of sonnets( 十四行诗) was a fashion in Shakespeare ’ s day. Partly in conformity with the popular vogue Shakespeare wrote his sequence of 154 sonnets. In these sonnets he exalted friendship and love, and sang the praises of youth and beauty. The following is Shakespeare ’ s we ll-known 18th sonnet, in which he immortalized his loved one.
